I can't speak for others but personally, I'd like to see the water infiltration in the trunk dried up and properly cleaned out. That's basically just labor. Then replace t.he ABS module that was vandalized. After the water issue is completed, replace the rear glass. This vehicle is beautiful and definitley deserves to be restored if the owner can afford to do it. The scratched paint and exterior detailing is a superficial issue IMHO, that can be dealt with later on (maybe in a whole other video?) and could even be coupled with interior detailing/restoration and audio restoration. My 2 cents.

Alex one thing to keep in mind the ABS issue can be caused by a faulty door handle (I know sounds crazy but super common) The fuse that powers all 4 door comfort access handles also powers the DSC module (its a 5amp circuit) I see the DSC module is physically damaged but I would check that fuse to see if its blown and disconnect all the door harnesses (to prevent the shorted handle from blowing the fuse) and see if the DSC will start communicating. A quick test would be to see if the comfort access is working at all!

Alex, I own a 2011 Alpina B7 here in McKinney, TX. Mine has about 117K on the odometer and it is as nice a car as you will find. I have owned this car for many years now and as 10+ year old car I still get comments almost every time I am out and about. I have been thru all of the typical issues with the N63 engine (CCP from BMW) where they replaced the valve guides to stop the oil consumption and it no longer uses any oil. One thing I wanna call your attention to is the aux turbo coolant pump you were getting issues on. If I recall correctly there was a recall on those and if your car VIN was in a certain range then they replaced it for free. Mine was doing the exact same thing yours is doing yet mine was not in the recall range. Replaced it and no longer have the issue. One other thing to look at when you get everything dry in the back trunk area, there's a fuel pressure module that goes bad without any water intrusion or other factors. I replaced high pressure fuel pumps, low pressure pump in the gas tank and all along it was this dang $150.00 module. The issue was during the summer months when it would get hot, it would internally shut down and the car would die. I mean right dead in the middle of the road. Let it cool down and it would run again. Just keep an eye out for that module and I recall it being located on the passenger side under the cover where the battery is located.

I love watching ur videos I do almost all my work myself. I have a vehicle from a car lot that has pretty much been broken since I got it and still has full coverage and making payment every week on it, my pickup truck motor just blew up after putting 2500 into the truck I'm having bad luck lately I guess. I work 60 to 70 hrs a week and don't have time really to look for anything so sharing my wife's suburban it's tough with our kinds I feel like I can't catch a break vehicle wise and it sucks. I'm so grateful for ur videos and love for vehicles, working on vehicles is such a stress reliever for me, I just wish I had a decent vehicle for me for work and for the kids

I'd say it's totally worth fixing especially in this market where prices on just about anything is sky high. Before it was that one owner driven on sunday cars that fetched high prices and now salvage, flooded or 3 owner cars are also expensive. The biggest thing would be the modules which can be had used, a good service (oil/filter, air filters, cabin air filter and spark plugs), replacing the rear glass, tires and a good detail. Very sellable at that point.

Great episode! I think you saved Sam's butt on this one. When you did that wet sanding on the headlights, you should have taken it to some of those scratches in the paint. That's what it's going to take to have any chance of repairing them. Obviously, the risk is going through the clear, but it is what it is. Lastly, I find that headlights won't stay clear unless you do some kind of clear coat after sanding and buffing.

Beautiful Alpina!!!! Great color also. Definately key revival, I was keyed also and would love to see how it would be corrected on a budget. You should definately consider having your corroded modules cleaned they can easily be done at a fraction of the cost. I had several with similar issues in my Volvo . I used the XeModex guy's you could do a collab with them and actually Elliot Alvis also used them.

2:24 I've got a 2003 Buick Lesabre that a shop wanted $350 to replace the oil pressure sending unit.. Took me and a friend all of about 30 minutes to do the work myself. That is why cars get like this. The sending unit costs like $30 and the oil/filter was about $40... I realize people have to make money, but damn..

Alpina was an independent producer. When they built a car, it was no longer a BMW. On registration, it is also called Alpine. BMW did not send cars for conversion, Alpina had an agreement with BMW, nor were they sold through their dealers

@@GoldenCroc first of all. Learning about different types of oil is super important. And interesting. Secondly, watching the research of different oils. There are so many amazing KZbin channels of people doing close to real-life research and experiments on different brands of oils. And the number one KZbin channel is called project farm. He does a comparison of every synthetic oil. With so much research and scientific studies. In real life applications. By the time you are done watching the two or three videos of all the comparisons, you will be a believer
@GoldenCroc
@GoldenCroc 2 жыл бұрын
@@brianstauffacher I have watched quite a lot of oil videos and read spec sheets in my day. From your text above it sounded to me more like they had some kind of "secret sauce" ingredient, which could be interesting but I was confused why I had not heard about it in that case, so thats why I commented. Judging from your reply, you meant some variants of amsoil often win comparisons with their rivals? Fair enough, I can get behind that for sure. Though its hard to find comparisons with oils and weights that are relevant to my market. Many of the comparisons were in the 5w-30 weight, which is rarely used in cars here. Most oil in 5w-30 is seen as a cheaper oil if you dont have the budget for a 0w-30. Myself, I most often use 0w-40. If you got a comparison or a spec sheet with for example Aral Supertronic 0w-40, hit me up. Cheers mate.
