GECKO OWNER HERE: Please, for future reference, never buy an animal without doing extensive research first. I totally completly understand that not every animal owner is best at first, but definitly look more into gecko tank set-ups. Another thing that should be noted is the place where you purchased your gecko from. PLEASE FOR ANYONE READING THIS, DO NOT PURCHASE ANIMALS FROM BIG CHAIN PET STORES. ALWAYS GET LOCALLY AND ETHICALLY BREED ANIMALS!! I 100% get that not everyone knows this, but big chain pet stores mostly get their animals from mills,, which are awful terrible places that mass breed, treat their animals horribly, and most animals that you get from a chain pet store (since they recieve their animals from mills) will most likely die at a young age, have some type of sickness from the place in which they came from (a mill), or have interlized problems from inbreeding and unethical breeding. Another thing I'd like to point out,, near the end of the video you stated you might get your leopard gecko a friend, and by that sentence I'm just assuming you will pair your gecko with another leopard gecko or reptile in the tank,, P l e a s e, do NOT do this!!! The only time it would be reccommended to do this, is if you're a highly highly experienced and skilled leopard gecko/reptile owner who has years of work with reptiles. One more thing, the light in your tank is not right, at all, please consider researching more into correct light fixtures. For the substrate, I wouldn't personally reccomend mulch. Leopard geckos natural habitat is rocky flat deserts,, so I promise you, you'll find more benifit in something like flat tile (easy to clean, flat, cheap at any hardware store), or just paper towels for now, I 100% would advise taking out the repti-carpet soon or once you get more comfy and learn more on the topic of repti-carpet, but for now while you have it please regularly check your gecko's toes. Repti carpet sometimes can cause your gecko's toes or nails to get stuck or snagged, which could break their toes, just keeping an eye on it is a good thing to do while you have repti carpet as a substrate!! I also say you should keep a small amount of reptile calcium (make sure without d3) in your tank,, you can add it into the food bowl or just keep a little bottle cap in it!! Lastly I'd like to say that asking for advice from a chain pet store employee will 9/10 times be wrong information, just remember those chains teach the workers to sell an animal to no matter who, and are never fully educated by the workplace (because it helps encourage selling to whomever, wether the customer has wrong information about the animal's care). I promise you I'd never mean any of thks advice harshly!! I understand how normalized it is for people to be taught sometimes incorrect information even by compaies or websites you thought you could trust!! I can tell you care alot about your gecko and I respect that :)

Thank you for this! Ive been doing research on how to take care of a Gecko .. already have 90% of the items .. All I need is some green accessories food and the gecko itself which Im getting today. I do have the repti carpet and planned to change it as soon as I get the mat I ordered online .

I concure with what this person said. Do alot of research, read some forums or join a subreddit on every aspect of owing a gecko. Ive been researching them for 2 months now and im pretty much like a wiki for geckos. I want to know everything before I give this amazing animal a new home. They live a long life so if I can maximize its living conditions to the best of my knowledge I will. Im getting my first crested gecko off a breeder or reptile store that properly care for them. Dont ever buy an animal on impulse, youre probably gonna do damage to, if not kill, your animal. DO YOUR RESEARCH. These are delicate animals, theyre not dogs where you buy it and give it food in a bowl and some water and forget about. You need to keep a certain temperature, you need some foliage, make sure it has the right uvb, the right substrate. Understand that it lives under certain parameters. You got the right size of tank, so thats good, just optimize it to the living conditions it needs. Im glad that you chose the leopard gecko as a pet, I understand your excitement and I think thats awesome but you need to give it proper care. Cheers.

You shouldn't just purchase an animal without knowing anything about it. Leopard Geckos need a white heat light or a DHP (red lights are incredibly bad for reptiles eyes) and UV light, without one you end up with an animal with MBD. They can also live well into 20 years if cared for correctly, reptiles live longer than dogs when given the correct care. Though if things are nit improved I give this gecko five years at best.

And uvb is not required for most nocturnal reptiles uvb and uv are the same thing the b just stands for bulb. If they don't have uv they won't get mbd. You don't give advice If you don't know.

Red lights are bad for them. I didn’t know that at first but I just use a heat pad. 3 hides and never put sand or mulch. 50% repti soil 50% play sand. Or non adhesive kitchen liner or tank mat. Other that it looks awesome. And your gecko is dope asf

I own a bearded dragon but I recommend getting something for the little one to climb on And they are solitary animals also bedding I would recommend is eco earth 🥰 I hope this helps

Oh my gosh i hope you’ve upgraded his cage… 1. Never impulse by animals like you were going to with that beared dragon 2. Please have the tank setup before getting it 3. Give it two week quarantine 4. PLEASE use better heat, deep heat or baking bulbs, and a uvb light! 5. And please add some HEALTHY substrate. Can’t believe i just watched some people so much older than me take such awful care and consideration on a living animal. Please research.

At the end she threw a worm at it and it got frightened and they shouldn’t do that. If you frighten it too much it will lose its tail. And I would’ve recommended you already had the tank set up and researched what it is and it’s needs.

I'm sorry to say this, but it was one of the most boring enclosures I've ever seen in my life. 😬 Where are all the furnishings such as substrate, heating mat, properly lights and uvb, moisture cave, plants (plastic or real doesn't matter) hides etc.? First of all, read about the animal you are buying, don't take a random pet from a pet store just because it's cute. Pet store doesn't always know what is best for the animal. There is so much wrong here I can't even say what. Follow serious KZbinrs such as Snake Discovery and Jessica's animal friends. Or just search for "leopard gecko care". Please do your homework and do it properly. Especially for your pet's sake. Ps don't buy a bearded dragon. They need even more care and a very large enclosure. 😕
