Just picked up a 1990 XR600r in very good condition for $1,200 last night. The bike has been sitting for a long time, previous owner bought it from the second owner, I believe, who had it since 2008 and then parked it in a shed. It wants to fire up and run but that old gas and varnished carb just aren't having it. Going to hopefully get it torn down today.

Starting that thing in flip flops an tennis shoes is crazy man. I've owned my 1988 xr 600r for about 5yr now. Runs perfect but the one time I didn't follow my starting ritual. It backfired tearing half my boot off my foot spraining my ankle in the process. It's got more than enough force to break your leg/foot or both. You should invest in a set of riding boots and look up what happens when these bikes kick back. Be careful out there man.

vacuum hoses are vent lines and over flow tube. the screw that fell ot is the idle mixture screw, the pilot jet is inside the float bowl. i wish my xr250 started that easy. my xl600r starts that good. cool bike have fun stay safe.

vacuum pipes are breather pipes. the one half way up the right side of the carb is t connected to the one from the rear of the float bowl which then goes down between the back of the engine and the swing arm and is held at the exit by a wire clip welded to the frame just under the rear brake pedal fulcrum. The pipe on the left side half way up the carb routes upwards and over the regulator and exits somewhere high up near the top of the air filter box. I bought mine in 97 and still got it.

Great intro! :) Thanks for sharing the revival of the XR, I have two XR 600 -86 that have been sitting for years..One of them rebuilt into 1970s style supermoto.. Stuff like this helps me out dealing with them eventually. : )

Beautiful bike! I had a 1986 Honda XR600R, it was very fast and very fun! And not to mention, it was perfectly suited for the desert outside of Tucson Arizona where I live! Ol Clementine, she was a beast! LOL!

Awesome video mate and a awesome bike! I have a 94 and a 96 model XR600R they are such great and strong bikes, both need a little restoring but aren't too rough. I used to own a 97 years ago and regret selling it. But happy to have my two beasts I currently own. I reckon they will outlive me. Look forward to some more videos of your XR600R in the future hopefully. Cheers from down under in New Zealand🤙

My XR is the same year model, but I don't ride it so often because it is a little heavy for me and also it is hard to find spare parts if broken. XR600R is a good bike and I will keep it while I can fix it.

10:22 you're at the Puerco. I was there last weekend with my wife on my ATV...first time. I have a 92 XR600 in my garage that has sat unused for a number of years. You have inspired me to hopefully get it running so I can experience adventures at the Rio Puerco. Just wish I had more mechanical knowledge about this dirt bike.

In a week I’m headed back to NM with family to ride again and film. What would you like to know about the bike?

@@UncouthedChurlishness Its was more than 10yrs ago, I dropped off my XR at a shop in Rio Rancho for a tune up and to get it in reliable riding condition. A few days later the guy calls and wants me to come pick it up. He said he took it out for a ride, said it stalled out on him and he had to walk back a ways or get a lift. Told me it wasn't worth fixing and that I should buy some other used bike off Craigslist or something like that. Its been a long time...I think he said the frame might be cracked or have a crack in it...I don't know where that crack is if there is one. I just hope he didn't ride it without oil and messed up the engine. Since then, I got married and moved a few times so I haven't touched it. Don't want to get rid of it because of all comments I read about how great a bike it is. Started watching XRLand videos here on KZbin and maybe I can try my hand at rebuilding this engine if needed. First, I would start off with basics like cleaning the carb and gas tank and see if it will start. Sorry for the long story and thank you for the reply!
@UncouthedChurlishness3 жыл бұрын
@@brujo4444 mine actually has a small crack on the rear of the subframe cross bar that goes under the seat. It’s not too big or hurting anything, but I will weld it up eventually. Good thing you didn’t listen to that guy and kept your Xr! These bikes are awesome and if you lived near Dallas, I’d help fix that bike up for you.
Awesome vídeo man. Im subscribing right now. Cheers from Brazil. RFVC engine rules!!!

Always check the oil flow to the head after long time of not running or after an engine rebuild. Nice bike though
@nickgraupman84573 жыл бұрын
How would you suggest a simple way to check oil flow to the Head
@2manyrides3 жыл бұрын
@@nickgraupman8457 nick, you loosen the banjo bolt that leads to the rocker and watch for seepage there. The oil pumps in these do not always "prime". You could be running dry!

@@UncouthedChurlishness also, not trying to be comic book nerd from the simpsons and pick apart your B roll, but the bike at 1:00 with the dual round headlights is a XLR250 Baja.
