I’m a Scottish bricklayer and we’ve always dpc our sills but foam under them to stop them cracking never heard of that ever it a traditional built house so no movement and their is know weight on them pre cast sills other than at the stool ends that is a bad detail and will cause problems further down the line

You should always put dpc when putting in cills... but never seen foam under one in my life. The regs in uk are shocking when it comes to dpc and insulation compared to ireland
@bricklayersworldwithandy62772 жыл бұрын
@@thrandumbguy You must only bed the Cills on the Stools and point under the rest or they will crack, you don't need the foam but it's negligible in downward movement and just makes the pointing bit easier.

To stop water tracking through the stone. Cos they only sandstone they absorb water.

@davebloke8292 жыл бұрын
@@babydeacon That's composite stone, not sandstone, plus it's a cavity wall, surely you wouldn't want to hold water there in case it freezes? I don't get it, I know it's what we are asked to do now but it's a load of bollocks!
@davebloke8292 жыл бұрын
@@suemarsden7249 Yes, they are composite stone, can you imagine large house builders splashing out on real stone? LOL! They use the cheapest materials they can get away with, just for profit, I've used some appalling bricks the last few years, wire cut crap that I wouldn't even call real bricks, and this goes on throughout the build for every trade. We are trying to make a silk purse out of a sows ear!
@suemarsden72492 жыл бұрын
We put a strip of insulated dpc on the back of the cills and return the blockwork up to the cill. Same around all window and door reveals, it gives a strong well insulated structure at all openings.
