Failed Immunotherapy directly after Chemo and Radiation (Durvalumab, 1 round)

10 rounds of Chemotherapy (Carboplatin, Alimta, and Avastin)
6 with Carboplatin, 4 without

The purpose of my channel is to document my cancer journey to look back on, and/or help anyone else going through anything similar. Hi, Jenny and Kyle. I really hope you both see this. I was diagnosed with Stage 4 NSCLC on April 19, 2021. I have an EGFR+ Exon 19 with some mutations showing Exon 20. When I was diagnosed, I had a massive pleural effusion in my left lung (where cancer originated) and also had a massive pericardial effusion. No need to go through the details of that trauma, but I have also been there... tubes sticking out of my chest, draining, oxygen tank, oxygen concentrator, not being able to walk, and much much more (unfortunately). This is a tough road that we are on, but you are not alone. I started following your story on Instagram a couple of months after I was well enough to leave the hospital, and your story always gave me so much hope because we have a lot of the same things going on with brain mets (Jan 2022), etc. I just want you to know that not only am I also watching these videos, but I am PRAYING so hard for you... for us... each day. I am sure the days must be daunting and frustrating, but take all of the support that I can see you already get from Kyle and your family. As I'm sure you are already well aware, this disease is also an emotional and mental battle, and I pray that with the support you have, the battle lines on those fronts are a little easier than on the physical front. How I wish I could drive down from the Bay Area and give you a HUGE hug. Thank you so much to all of the educators in Kyle’s district for giving up your sick days so that he can spend time caring for his wife. As an Inflammatory Breast Cancer and kidney cancer survivor, it is so helpful if you can relax and let your body heal. I can’t imagine the stress of also worrying about your job and insurance. Kyle said that his coworkers gave him their sick days so that he could take time off from work.

My Mom had kidney cancer and she did go through this, your pulminologist sounds very good. They weren’t lied to. What are you talking about? No one can predict how patients are going to do in clinical trials & on new treatment. They’re all learning & discovering as they go. The doctors did not push them into anything! If she hadn’t done anything she would have died within a year. It was their choice. @@LetItBeSummer-1 as a physician, myself, I can tell you they were not counseled properly. The proton beam therapy actually shortened her life. The determination was phenomenal. It did nothing for her lung cancer which had spread to both lungs. My belief is if she had stopped chemo and experimental treatment when she could still walk, she may have died a couple of months earlier, but her quality of life would have been significantly better. Unfortunately, some docs when faced with desperate people will keep offering more poison. That’s what chemo is.

Day 2 of watching older videos of Jenny cause I miss her and I know she's not in anymore pain and she can breathe again. Kyle I've learned she was so worried about you. Its going to be difficult for a while, but you have family to help you through. The year my mom died unexpectedly of cancer after getting the shock of my life that my oldest daughter was dying of a terminal brain tumor at age 19 and I was taking care of her 5 brothers and sisters. We had my older sister to help with my oldest daughter. Then my mom past Sunday 4th of April 1999 at 10:30am right after our phone call to her and two months later my daughter passed June 7th 1999 at 4:30pm. I never had much time to grieve right. I held it in for my kids or tried and it came out in spurts. If you have a good support system and pray,pray,pray then you'll get through this. You'll still miss her, but it will get easier with time. I'm continuing prayers for you Kyle and yours and Jenny's beautiful, beautiful children to get through this difficult time. ❤❤❤❤

This message is for Kyle. It's interesting. I haven't read all the comments. But I have read comments that have said that you look scared to death, and overwhelmed in this video. Maybe it's true. However to me, you appeared stronger than ever! Your strength at the beginning of the video actually put a lump in my throat. You are someone who consistently and reliably demonstrates your love and commitment to Jenny and your family. I am a mom who had three severely asthmatic babies and a husband at the time that completely checked out and was abusive toward me until I escaped and made a new life for myself and my children. Jenny, I was reading about a woman that has stage four lung cancer and she was much older than you. After many failed treatment attempts, she tried a immunotherapy clinical trial and it got her into a remission Three years and counting! There is something different about Jenny. She seems to have lost weight, but that’s not what’s different. I can’t put my finger on it but people that recognize it know what I mean. Withdrawn, less aware maybe. She looks absolutely exhausted to the point where your mind plays games on you and doesn’t work they way it’s supposed to. I am not putting her down but she acts and looks different. Kyle is on the verge of having no energy left. That man is running on empty. He is a trooper but we all are human after all, the stress, worry and work is catching up on him. I feel for the both of them. Maybe I am just totally wrong with the way I interpret their video today. If so please tell me guys.

Also taking into consideration all the pain meds she must be on right now which I'm assuming are pretty potent narcotics. That in itself can seriously alter a person's brain and change their behaviors, not to mention she could very well be experiencing the beginnings of the dying process, which hurts to say 😔

The family does help..she was in the hospital family kept the kids family takes her to appointments..the family takes the kids a lot !!! He doesn't do this alone! Of coarse he is mentally drained his wife has stage 4 cancer!!!!! She is not as mobile ... He loves Jenny with all he has ..that is so obvious...but for those of you saying he needs help .. why don't you help..hire them a made where he doesn't have to care for the house one day..he can just enjoy his family...quit griping and do something..the family helps a tremendous amount.. her sister has a small one at home her father is elderly.. send them gift cards for door dash or Instacart Walmart to where the burden is lifted ... I'm sure a maid service will benefit Jenny and send one for Dad and sister that way they can do more for Kyle and Jenny.. y'all use your brain...

Did you know you can get on hospice? And if you live longer that's fine, they still will be there or you can get back on hospice if you get off it for a bit too. It would help Kyle a lot where he would have assistance the hospice nurses could drain you and things like that where he could have a break, and keep the pain under control also. I think it would be a good thing, it doesn't mean you are giving up. Think about it. Also you should weigh the reality of taking a new medicine how long is it really going to give you in months? Is it worth it to go through it or would you rather spend the time left home with family making memories and being with the kids without having to go to appointments all the time, and let hospice help Kyle. Important Things to ponder. You are a very strong woman, I appreciate your spunk in fighting this. God bless you.

I’ve been following your journey for awhile, but have never commented. I felt the need to comment today…I am so very grateful to witness the amazing care and overwhelming love that you have for each other. ❤️🙏 Jenny, I love that you are able to be so honest and vulnerable telling people about journey. And Kyle…your overwhelming support, compassion and love for Jenny absolutely amazes me. It’s so palpable that it brings me to tears of joy. I know how difficult it is to watch someone that you love unconditionally, go through this. Three years ago I moved to my sister and brother-in-law’s farm in Ohio to help out. He had been diagnosed with ALS a year prior, and it was progressing very quickly. Although it was so heartbreaking, it was equally the most magical experience of my life. Their five adult children, their spouses, our other sister, her husband, my brother-in-law’s sister all flew in and stayed for the last five weeks of his life. Everyone helping with cooking, cleaning and all the farm maintenance. But more importantly…being there for my sister and carrying each other through. My brother-in-law had such Grace throughout. Their faith was unbreakable, even after he passed. I see that with both of you. I pray 🙏 everyday for your family. Sending love and light to all of you. 🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️

Imo a palliative care nurse should be doing the draining not Kyle because he’s got enough to do. When my husband needed palliative care a Macmillan cancer nurse came out every day to our home for his medical needs, my daughters and myself took care of feeding and hygiene because we all have nursing experience. Kyle needs rest too and from what I see he isn’t getting any. A person can only take so much before they break too. Love you Kyle and prayers for you Jenny. ❤️

the day-to-day care of a person at home is provided by family and friends. The hospice team coaches family members on how to care for a person and even provides respite care when caregivers need a break.

You guys are going to be excellent candidates for applg for medical care employment. And a big bonus is your wonderful countenance, your faith in Jesus, your perseverance., and compassion. Praying daily, and thank you for sharing this journey with us. You’re even teaching me as an ER doc. I’m good with side effects, but not with what chemo to order It’s so encouraging to know you’re happy with the care you’re receiving. That is huge for you to feel like your best interests are at the forefront. It allows you to rest and feel safe in their care. Hers my only advice, and sorry if you don’t like outside help, but I want you both to be vocal if pain management is inadequate. And try internet Dr visits when possible. I love you guys!

@@mimibee626 sounds like you didn’t understand my comment. Medical care employment just means what it says--employment as a caregiver. Through their journey, they have learned so much about medications, side effects, thoracentesis, taking care of ports,chemotherapy, pain management, how hospitals function, and a myriad of other health care issues. I was just commending them on how much they have learned. As far as payment goes, that depends on the hospital or agency that does the hiring. What about that are you having problems with? I went to medical school it UTHSCSA in Texas. I just made up that name so that I was covering all aspects of health care.

Things change so much on the cancer journey. I had total thyroidectomy in 2007. I asked my specialist if they found what they found today would I still have my thyroid, she said yes. So things do change, rapidly in the cancer world. They monitor now instead of slash and burn. So nice to hear. Good luck you two......such strength.

It seems like the recommendations for those that have a genetic predisposition for a cancer (in this case Jenny’s is genetic and her Aunt passed away from the same) could be improved. What would be the harm in implementing a scan for those at risk as a means to catch it early so they aren’t stage 4 when diagnosed?
