This is all the gear that I have for my impression and it just shows how to put it on and stuff like that.

When not in use, the Germans stored their canteens open and upside down (inside their barrack closets) so that no white rust forms, as a suggestion for storing your canteen. White rust is okay to ingest in small quantities.

With your canteen, you can put white vinegar in it to help clean it. Thats what i done, and it helped clean it out

Do you sometimes take the garand belt off? You can make the haversack into a backpack for easy ditch by sliding the straps into the tail d rings

26th Inf. Div. "Yankee Division" mostly guys from New England, Maine, Mass, N.H., Rhode Island. I was issued the same damn belt in 2003, good design lasting over 80 years. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Very good video. It's nice to hear from others reenactors. I a Civil War reenactor and both a Civil War and WW2 historian. I collect WW2 G.I. equipment. My Civil War reproduction tin canteen is twenty years old has some rust in it. Drinking from it has done me no harm all these years. Also I like that you portrait a regular Infantryman as other I seen portrait paratroopers or Rangers . Keep up good work. 👍🇺🇸

Hey Reenactment Days, I liked the video. I've been studying WW II for years and I'm constantly trying to learn more about it. I'm in the slow process of writing a book about the war (a little hobby of mine). And you're uniform overview was entertaining and helpful. Also, I noticed that you portray a soldier in the 26th Infantry Division. Do you have the right insignias to portray any other units, or are you just sticking with the 26th?

So what made you pick the 26th? If you don't mind me asking. It was a good division during the war, but it wasn't one of those famous divisions that everyone knows about, and the history on the divison is a little scarce. Not many talk about it, or know about it.

yeah, with the helmet thing i remember wearing my pasgt (3 or 4 pounds) helmet for like 6 hours straight with very little preparation and my neck was sore for like 2 weeks.

btw, always use original patches, they made enough of them hundreds of thousands if not millions, they were meant to be used & seen. Use 'em....................besides the quality of the old ones is far superior than that of today, the long lasting dyes & cotton threads is amazing. you can tell just by the look & sheen of them, NOS, look brand new, never issued or sewn to a service tunic, or M43, HBT etc.

17:32 lol I drink from that one all the time and I am fine. Also the US made mostly aluminum canteens in WW2 so its a bit safer to drink from a stainless steel one, but not as accurate.

As far as I know canteens were only made from aluminium. If you mix sand and water in that aluminium canteen and shake it for a few minutes the corrosion will be gone. Then just store it with the cap off

They Also Made Experimental Plastic Canteens and Stainless Steel canteens. As well as a glossed almost ceramic like canteen. Handy tips and also a rotary tumbler would do very well for an aluminum canteen.

In the field Button down on base button up with tie and garrison cap along with the Class A uniform jacket. that was pretty much the way it was when my grandfather was in during WWII.

2 reasons for leggings/ blousing trousers. 1: protection from debris or insects. 2: negating the need for tailoring inseams. This is more important for troops in combat or forward deployed. Hemlines in contact with the ground wick moisture up, get muddy, offer a stairway to heaven for critters, and look un military. Un cool.

I’ve read on a few accounts that they just took a decent stiff bristle brush, pour some some and water on it, and scrub the hell out of it on both sides till all the grime came off. If they had access to a wash bin then they would use a wash board and soap to clean it. Of coarse there would be laundering units attached to divisional headquarters that would specialize in making everything spick and span, as well as aiding in de-lousing.

As for the Thompson, Soldiers decided on theyre own if they take the 3 cell mag-pouch or the 5 cell and also how they put them on the webbing the way they wanted it to be, right? Or did they had regulations on how to wear the pouches on the Webbing?

The clothing without the field gear would cost 290 on at the front not including boots as well. That price includes the m37 wool shirt and pants and the lined m41 jacket. There are a few substitutes you can do to lower the price and still be accurate including switching the m37 wool shirt for the flannel one and getting the summer m41 jacket instead of the lined one. The jacket would accepted but it was never seen without the liner in WWII. Everything looks the same and there's no way to tell that it's the unlined version from the outside view, it's just less warm. The boots cause about 300 a pair, i know that is a crazy amount for boots but they are good quality. I did find combat boots for about half the price that I got and are working well.

Nice impression! very reproduction but great nontheless. only two tips are to open your top buttons! gi's rarely wore their woolshirts and jackets with a closed top button in the field, and to get a correct helmet liner.

So are the pants the same ones that look like modern dress pants? We live in Germany so it's hard to figure out what stuff we need for a WW2 uniform (US). The reenactment sales sites aren't really that helpful. Your video is though. We have this shirt and pants but we didn't even know which uniform it was (field uniform or dress uniform). Was the same uniform just also used in the field? By the way you don't have to trim the belt. If you are a younger kid just lock it in place without trimming so that you don't have to buy a new belt every year. Aren't the gaiters more accurate for WW2? Of course it's accurate, just like the Airborne uniform is, but when EVERYONE wears them, it isn't accurate anymore. Everyone wasn't airborne, just like everyone didn't have the more modern combat boot. Is the M1941 jacket the same that would be worn in combat? Do you think it's a good idea to try to keep the uniform with a dirty look so that it looks like in the movies?

@@historybrickproductions.4056 Also if you find original clothing use for a dress uniform not combat. The stitching is 75+ years old and it can be very brittle. My friend had original pants and he used it at a reenactment once and the entire crotch area of the pants tore open in the middle of the battle lol.

Had to sew back on a couple of buttons on a US M82 BDU Blouse I own and had to use a double thread technique my dad taught me alot stronger hold and more durable. If the fabric is good on the original pants it can be re-stitched just need to match the original thread color.

The brown is probably wool and wool is for warmer weather. It is also the main dress uniform issued to everyone. The green is probably the HBT and it is for warmer weather and generally issue to people in the pacific. It was rare In europe

The difference is the materisl and purpose of the garment. The standard trousers was the wool m1937 trouser. The green trousers are the hbt utility or work trousers. They were used in all theaters of war in wwii. They were the main uniform in the pacific because they were a lightweight compared to wool. In europe the GIs would wear the green pants over the wools trousers for another layer of warmth and protection for the wool pants

For the M1 helmet you could also go to a army surplus store and buy a Vietnam era helmet for $50 or so and they are very similar to the WWII ones.
