Rural towns in Oz are fucking weird. I lived in Mildura for 9 months during a 5 year stint in Oz, such a bizarre place. Met some right characters: my old boss had only ever left Mildura once in all his life (he must've been pushing 70), and that was to get the end of his nose chopped off in Sydney as he got melanoma on the tip because his full brim hat wasn't quite big enough. I think I saw 3 days of rain in 9 months, and probs about 6 clouds. The flies and heat in the summer are horrendous, no idea why people would choose to move there, let alone stay 😆

Weirdest experience though was working with a bunch of sheep shearers. Driving around the desert with a case of beer and a gun sticking out the window popping off kangaroos and emu. Was not my cup of tea, but they were great people and made memories for life. They simply called me "Pommie Cunt".
