Dolly didn't need to say anything but everything she said here was so ABOVE any kind of fuse Barbara was trying to light. Almost as if to say look at how cute you are trying to get me to say something inappropriate. The boob questions, were just plain rude! Finally Dolly addressed it with "my figure" which was so amazingly classy. That was what has always blown me away about Dolly Parton. She was always soooo classy as to never invite any rude questions and has always been absolutely gorgeous and adorably cute. Then you hear her sing and my god it's like what I'd imagine angels sing like. And she can talk into singing better than anyone I've ever heard.

I will remember these gracious responses forever and know, once again, the beauty of God's plans. I was sincerely ....gave me a bad taste in my mouth...for Barbara Walters to have stopped so low as to ask such ignorant questions when she had been the tree and the public had been the axe 🪓 that chipped, games, sliced, chopped away at her in a bad-joke manner for many years. She surely had to tuck some of Dolly's wisdom and intelligence into her pocket and carried it with her for her own rainy days. Ms. Walters disappointed me greatly here. Some jealousy maybe? Because she certainly couldn't touch, with a very very very long pole, Dolly's talent - or grace. Do you know how few people are recognized by their first names only? They couldn't have paid me enough money to be this rude and thoughtless.

Dolly is so in control of this interview. She never loses eye contact with Walters. Her smile is constant and her body language is a force. She moves forward when making her points. I love how Dolly takes her time to answer these ridiculous questions (that seem more like attacks). She repeats what Walters says back slowly to let her know “I heard you. I’m not an idiot .” And then Dolly answers with wisdom, intelligence, sincerity, and the perfect amount and use of humor. Walters looks like she’s holding on and trying to blast through the interview while Dolly is just relaxed and presenting calm and her beautiful self ... inside and out. Love you, Dolly. ❤️

There’s a difference between asking tough interview questions while giving someone a chance to explain themselves and berating or belittling them. Asking questions like this, in a respectful environment, allows an interview subject the opportunity to justify themselves to the people out there who *might* genuinely hate or disrespect them. When you interview someone the goal isn’t just to ask what *you* are interested in, but to ask what you know people watching have an interest in so that your subject can address those points.

Honey, you’re clearly along with SO MANY ON THIS PAGE very young and well intentioned. Barbara wasn’t trying to get under Dolly’s skin or to be snarky I can promise you. They are from the same generation that is also that of my mom’s and when I was a child. If you pay attention, you’ll notice that this is how Barbara interviewed. Everyone (including Dolly) knew it. She was known for asking questions that NO ONE else would. People knew this going into an interview with her. I knew this as a child and I’m 51. At some point, my mother told me this about her waaayyyy back. No one was offended by her questions and Dolly Parton is damn near her same age/generation. I know she understood who she was talking to. Barbara Walters was very respected as a journalist since 1951. I can see why younger people would view her in a different light. I just wanted to share that with you. Love

Barbara Walters always struck me as a very arrogant, nose-in-the-air type of person. If she thought someone was her equal or her better, she was more respectful and sort in awe of that person. If she thought they were beneath her, she kinda did always interview like this. No disrespect is meant. Barbara Walters was a pioneer for women journalists. Still, you don't have to be a snob when talking to people. Dolly Parton, on the other hand, always seems like a genuine person and treats people with respect, but she will come back at you if she detects garbage like what Barbara was doing. And I don't buy that her assistant or whoever gave her that question. I think Barbara came up with that question herself. I doubt she would take a question from an assistant. As unpleasant and crude as they are, it seems that the questions reflected widespread feelings of a section of the public towards Dolly Parton, and the interviewer offered Parton a chance for expressing her point of view. I wonder if the interviewer was genuinely crude, or was just daring to ask crude questions worth asking. A good interview lets the interviewee shine, and this is one. Whether it happened by chance or design is another story.
@Listening_Books123453 жыл бұрын
@@marco_plebani BW likely was asking the hot button questions at the time, but there is such a thing as phrasing, and the way BW phrased these questions was downright accusatory at times, as though Dolly needed to account for her behavior; rather than offering Dolly an opportunity to get her version of things out there, it felt more like a disappointed mother demanding her daughter explain why she thinks it's acceptable to dress this way. There was a lot of judgment baked into how BW framed these q's, to then conveniently hide behind the defense "well it's what everyone was already thinking/wanting to know."
