Ah, it’s so frustrating when a shoe does that! Especially a new pair with high hopes -and high price tag. I’ve come to terms that certain shoes are just not for me. I do hope this is just a freak coincidence and that you’re up and running soon!
@global-runner6 ай бұрын
Thank you! Yes SUPER frustrating. On the plus side I’ll probably do a competition on the channel to see if anyone wants them. (But with the cost of the shoe and the physio I’m out about $600!!!!). Oh well. Serves me right. :)

Good luck, hope to see you at the start. But don’t risk the injury if unsure, from what I understand they have more than enough runners.
@global-runner6 ай бұрын
I definitely won’t. I can handle pain. But I cannot start if there’s a risk I won’t finish. Off to the physio…!

I had something similar happen with Saucony Speed 2 from a single run. Tweaked my right knee meniscus and was out for 2 months. I felt same thing - the sole flare of shoe was preventing my foot from doing what it wanted to do which is pronate naturally. I now am super careful about the types of new shoes I run in
@global-runner6 ай бұрын
Yeah I would never have believed that 10 miles in a shoe could cause this much aggravation. It may well be that there were other issues at play but I 100% believe (and the physio agrees) that had I not run in those shoes on Sunday, I would not currently be experiencing knee pain. Exactly as you say, I felt like the shoe was working against me. I’m so angry with myself too. Like 6 months ago I told myself that I should shy away from carbon plates. And yet I got sucked back in! Nothing to do now but fix it and learn from it! ONWARD!
@nordicwilly66506 ай бұрын
@@global-runner So you don't normally run in any carbon plated shoe? You've got a great running stride and maybe don't need it For me, I get seduced by the wonderful YT shoe reviews every time! The more structured the shoe, the more problems I seem to have. This is why I always revert to boring, but simple shoes like Altra Rivera
@global-runner6 ай бұрын
My favourite shoes are streakfly, adios 8, on Cloudsurfer. Not a plate in sight. And yet I also get seduced by the possibilities. My mum used to tell me to take my coat off indoors so I’d “feel the benefit” when I went outside. I think the same applies to shoes. If I train without a carbon plate, when I put them on in a race, I’ll feel the benefit. Which makes my decision to buy those hokas all the more stupid! And thanks for the comment about my stride. That’s really nice to hear!

Just don't get injured... everyone today's just pre occupied with stats and times. But never take a look on what they're truly capable of when it comes to their own fitness.
@global-runner6 ай бұрын
Those are very true words. You’re right. Can’t get injured and compound the stupidity. That would be even worse…

I don't usually recommend Stryd but for Speed work it might be the difference between a disaster session (running too fast) or a perfect one. I have one I use myself sporadically, just for some speed work and Treadmill. Keep up the good work!
@global-runner6 ай бұрын
That’s a great suggestion! Although I think it was just a day of euphoric stupidity so probably even the power stats would not have saved me from that!
@b09d4n6 ай бұрын
@@global-runner I use it as a very precise Instant Pace on my Garmin/Coros. Picks up the changes in pace in less than 4-5 seconds. The watch is not very accurate at Instant Pace. Although be careful if you calibrate the Stryd with one pair of shoes it might be off around 10 sec with another type of shoes...
@global-runner6 ай бұрын
I’ll check that out. My watch (Garmin 965) has power readings but I’ve not usually paid much attention to them…
@nordicwilly66506 ай бұрын
Can you explain more about the value of Stryd? I have heard about it but admittedly don't understand the benefits.
@global-runner6 ай бұрын
I suspect this question wasn’t for me and I’d also love to hear the answer. My basic understanding is that power is a constant which equates to effort. So if you know your power at 6 minute miling is (say) 300 watts, and you want to run by effort then if you keep it at 300 watts, you know you are running 6 minute miling effort regardless of terrain. So even if it’s a hilly course or on grass etc, it shows the effort. And it’s more consistent than heart rate which can be impacted by sleep, nutrition etc But I’d love to hear more if anyone knows more.

great video! Speed is always a good feeling, but sad to hear about the injury, fingers crossed for speedy recovery How has the strength and mobility program been working out for you? I found it very interesting When I do "butt kicks" I notice that the I cannot kick all the way to the butt and wondering if this is a quad limitation or not, and if prolongating the quads will help with this and by extension run more efficiently, thoughts?
@global-runner6 ай бұрын
Thanks for your comment. I love speed sessions! I’m hoping the knee pain is temporary only. I’m doing all the right things from this point on…. :) The strength routine was tiring so I’m taking that super slow. Working on the imbalances first. Then on getting stronger. I’m not sure of your butt kicks issue is a problem that needs correctly but I’m seeing Tyson (my physio) today so I’ll ask him!
@oysteinjohannessen93326 ай бұрын
@@global-runner did you have a chance to ask this question to Tyson?
@global-runner6 ай бұрын
I didn’t get the chance but I’m seeing him Sunday. I definitely will. Sorry it didn’t happen today!

Tyson says “That could be one reason another could be something going on the biomechanics of how the knee bends. I would need to see him to assess properly”.

So crazy isn't it guys, I am from back in the eighties running and this shoe technology thing happened back then too, with so called " Structured Shoes" which was a another way for saying bloody rigid and no flex in them, they were all the rage then people started to get shin splints and injured all over the place. My rule of thumb is ,cushioning fine, but just look at the human foot and if the shoes doesn't move and kind of look like a human foot don't risk it, just my 2 cents

Good comment. I thought that too. But I had no issues at all after any of the speed sessions and other than the session I messed up, I ran them relaxed. The shoes however felt like I was fighting them and then a couple of hours later the pain started. The physio thinks it’s the shoes. It’s unbelievable.
@pianostudent2216 ай бұрын
@@global-runner physio is not precise science. it would be good if it just shoes but on balance of probabilities how likely mass produced shoe used by millions cause injury in highly trained athlete just after one relaxed run? If you had a history of such incidents before then maybe, but if not then shoes likely only minor contributing factor

Ha ha. Yeah I hear you on that front! I just went to the physio and he thinks the shoes jammed up my ankles and tibia and stopped them rotating my which was causing the pain. Crazy to think that would happen in one run and the shoes probably exacerbated an issue which was already not great. Maybe. But had I not run in those shoes on Sunday I wouldn’t currently be experiencing knee pain. They jammed up my ankles, stopped my tibias rotating and caused the pain. Was I prone to that? Almost certainly. But that one run caused my current pain.
