Nice and good luck with your marathon. I always say I'm going to do an over distance run when marathon training but never do, so nice job.

Thank you!!! It takes some building up to. And it’s a long time on your feet. But I do feel it gives a huge benefit.

Excellent efforts -and all while traveling a lot! Rest days are crucial. The body doesn’t know 7 days effort nearly as much as the ego does. It’s all about the sessions and effort in sum. Nice work!

I love that statement “the body doesn’t know 7 days effort nearly as much as the ego does”. I want a t shirt with that on! Great advice. Thanks.

Thanks for sharing another fantastic week’s training in such variable conditions. You definitely have to adapt and mix things up for sure. Enjoy and make the most of running in the heat as it is STILL snowing back home! Ha :). Think I would much rather have sand than snow to contend with!!

You're motoring! Hope you took some down time to enjoy Hawaii and Banff. Beautiful places to run though.
@global-runner7 ай бұрын
Yeah I’m very lucky to have such scenic places to do long runs in. Today is recovery day so I’m definitely going to take some down time. And maybe invest in some shave ice. Ideal recovery drink? :)

I always do the same math when is a big week. Currently, I am training for Boston and I am in my third week of 90+ miles. I am aiming for sub 2:45, thank you for the motivation. Keep it up!!
@global-runner7 ай бұрын
That’s a lot of mileage! Good for you! You must be looking forward to the taper. Go get that 2:44! Hoping for a tailwind for you!!

@@global-runner I am being cautious with my goal, I ran 2:46:26 last year in Rotterdam, but Boston is a different animal and to be honest I am scared to those hills even though I live in a really hilly area.
@global-runner7 ай бұрын
Cautious is right. I went off way too hard in Boston and paid for it. But even though I was running badly the hills didn’t seem that bad. Personally I think they are made out to be way worse than they are.

good luck man! I am 43 and I am also trying to break 2:30... you are an inspiration to me

Thanks for your comment!! I really appreciate it. Do it for the old guys! :). Do you have a marathon lined up?

@@global-runner I’m actually racing tomorrow at the B&A Marathon, then Boston, and then Chicago (although I might be training more for trail ultras all summer).

Good luck!!!!!! Let me know how you do!

@@global-runner thanks... if I don't mess it up then it will be really close. all of my workouts and my recent race tell me its gonna be really close... i would just be happy with a PR of sub 2:31:50 but sub 2:30 is the dream ;)

Good luck! I’m rooting for you! Such a big milestone that one!

You can run at this pace ... at age 50 ?? That's incredible ❤❤❤🎉...!!
I didn’t see any hydration pack or water bottles as you headed out for the 28 miles. What do you use?
@global-runner7 ай бұрын
This is a great comment. I recorded a whole segment on food and hydration and then decided it was boring so didn’t use it! I keep things super minimal but I think I am abnormal. I do not drink or eat much at all on long runs. On this run I ate nothing before the run and nothing until about 10 miles in. I like training my body to burn fat but I never push it too far. As soon as I feel hungry I eat. You have to be careful though. This run I ate a larabar at 10 miles and trail mix at about 20. I focus more on protein (recovery) during training runs and carbs during marathon races. For hydration I only drank 500ml of water. My Garmin said I lost 3 litres in sweat so I was definitely operating at a deficit but I’ve never needed a lot of water. I’m not against electrolytes I just didn’t have any. Later that day I bought some LMNT though to top myself back up. But I definitely know I’m not normal. Let me know if you think a video on this would be useful. It’s definitely not the norm, I know that.
@keithc12647 ай бұрын
@@global-runner Wow. I drank 1 liter of water on my last long run (22 miles). I’d definitely watch a video of you discussing your eating/hydration.
@global-runner7 ай бұрын
I’m definitely abnormal! I’ll do a video on hydration/food sometime in the future! Make sure you check out tomorrow’s video - it’s going to be a good one!

You travel a lot. What do you do for a living besides running? I also struggle with distance and what I want to run in a week. And when I don't hit that number I think too much about it. Even if it's just 5-10km.
@global-runner7 ай бұрын
I do travel a lot. I do consulting so I can do a lot of it remotely which helps. But when you live in calgary sometimes you just need to escape winter!! :) Yes I’m the same. I’m starting to learn that it’s just an arbitrary number and it’s way more important to do consistent mileage over a longer period. But I definitely have the same thoughts as you!!
