We want to share our passion for efficient, sustainable homesteading that brings the family together. On our homestead we do chemical-free gardening, grass-fed milk and beef, pastured eggs and broiler chickens, and free range children :) We love to go on adventures as a family, so if we're not workin on the farm, we're probably hiking or out getting ice cream. We're all into DIY, and being inventive and creative. We believe in homesteading that's sustainable, not just sustainable homesteading. In other words, we want to show you that homesteading doesn't have to wear you out to the point that you give it up. We've seen it happen, and almost came to that point ourselves. So go ahead and take a whack at that subscribe button if you'd like to join us on this crazy ride. Get ready to learn and be inspired!

You can roast those frozen green beans! Add a little oil, salt, pepper and garlic and roast at 425F until lightly browned. They don’t taste frozen if you roast them. Add some cherry tomatoes or diced tomatoes if you like. So good!!!

Maybe label the outside of your fridge and freezers with dry erase to keep track of what's inside then erase as you use? Just a tip I use and it's really helpful

Good morning! I'm so glad to see that you all posted today ❤ I don't know if you reply to comments or even read them for that matter, but I wanted to ask if you had ever thought about making clarified butter, or ghee, to save space in your freezer? It makes butter shelf stable, and the taste is leaps and bounds above regular butter. It also gives the butter a higher smoking point so that you can fry things in it, and the taste is so yummy. Have a great day, ✌️ ❤

Since you have soooo much butter, have you ever tried making Ghee? It is not that hard, and you can store it on your shelves instead of the freezer. It is good for cooking, seasoning, baking. Just about anything that you would use lard or tallow for.

"My freezers are unorganized and... dirty" I felt that to the core! This last week, I have been cleaning the freezers, re-organizing them, cleaning my canning/preserving ,messes that seems to accumulate no matter how hard I try to keep ups! Also, I wouldn't trade this life for a million dollars. I am very blessed that I can homestead!

My garden harvest was a bust this year because I was away all summer and it got choked out with weeds😂 I did get some things and processed what I could save. I am pressure canning chick peas today cuz I love them, and did some tomatoes last month from a case from the grocery store. You do what you can. Isn’t it so satisfying to see the shelves and freezers fill up for the winter? I love your videos so much❤❤

Hey Cody.... Take off the hand crank on that ginder and add a nut to drive it with a drill and socket. (I did that on my Garden Way Squeezo and it works great - much better than hand cranking). 😊

When I make a roast I take all the juice from it put it in a bowl an put it in the fridge ,the next day the fat has hardened an you can take it right off like candle wax . No fat left at all . Then I pour the good stuff back on my left over roast . Im sure you could do that with your chicken broth . So easy . But an extra step . I wished I was your neighbor lol 😆

I tried to grow sweet potatoes once and it was so much work. I tried to cure them in a back room but I think there was too much moisture because some grew mold on the outsides. I may try next growing season since I see you don’t adhere to the “curing” rules and it works for you.

I have a good way to make green beans a full meal, not just a side (therefore, use more of it). Cook them to your desired texture and mix with crispy bacon, garlic and chillies. Optional, a little bit of lemon juice and parmesan. This is my favorite lunch during green beans season and you eat a lot of it at once.

Time saving tip for tallow rendering. I add suet chunks with water and salt in slow cooker on low for a few hours. Then I take hand blender and turn the mixture into a smoothie like texture. Let it simmer on low for 8-10 hours. I do this overnight, and wake up to tallow all settled on top. Super easy to deal with. I just scoop up the fat from top. Discard the rest. Very little labour involved.

A step Michelle probably didn't show in canning up the broth is making sure to wipe your jar rims so that you get a good seal on your jars. Superb brand lids are fantastic and the loud POP versus other canning lids is impressive when taking the lid off to use your canned product. I wipe my jar rims with a paper towel soaked in vinegar to clear off any fatty oils, no matter how good your canning lids are they won't seal if there is oil or debris of any kind on your jar rims.
