Black with red piping for the seat, great to see it coming to the final furlong. Next the Porsche

Seats: when I built my kit car (blue body) I wondered about seat colour. I chose black seats with red piping, and it works really well (especially as the spark plug leads are matching red!). I'm sure that if Austin don't do this combo, Dom and John could have a 'Pipe-off' with a bit of vinyl paint and a race to create the red piping on plain black seats! As ever, great video; thanks for all your entertaining work, it's a delight to watch.

18:58 In about 1997 I was rebuilding my Norton 650SS and took bits for plating to a two-man business that worked out of a shared workshop here in Brum. I was fascinated to watch another two-man business in the unit spinning headlamp shells - it was amazing to see how quickly they could spin a disc into an acorn cupola. It would be great to see it again.

What a fantastic colour choice that metalflake blue is! Regarding the upholstery, I saw an American muscle car finished in an identical blue with a really nice caramel coloured interior.

Great idea to go and visit Austin Dom. Take us along for a look in! If you take the rocket, you could weigh up the different colours of upholstery on site and choose what you think looks best. A great opportunity to return the loaned Austin too. I’d also like to see some metal spinning. Never seen it done before. Thanks as always for posting this vid. Wayne

Wonderful to see the J40 back on its wheels: is there any chance that you could get the Goodwood scrutineer with his measuring sticks to come and formally confirm that it is all within specification ? A tour of the Austin Pedal Car Company workshops would be good to watch. Personally, I am not bothered about metal spinning as I've seen it done before, and as for the seats, best to get some samples and try them against the car: I'm sure that between you and Jon you will make the right choice. Best wishes.

Red would look great. With such an over the top paint job, I'm afraid a black seat would just look anticlimactic. Red would be up to the same level of bling.

Spinning: Would love to see you both try it out! Seat colour: Same as the red (plastic) seats that used to burn the back of my thighs on summer days in my dad's Mk1 Ford Cortina: Fire Brick #B22222 (HTML/hex code). That's the way I remember the interior looking like anyway. Any red would do fine, though, as a nice contrast to the paint! On another note: Don't you just love the rear light design on the Mk1? I remember thinking they were so cool!
