was listening to a podcast that said, “it’s important to live life by design rather than emotion. Basically, sticking to a routine is what allows us to be the healthiest version of ourselves (especially when you're fighting these demons ex. OCD for me). I’ve had to overhaul how I approach taking care of my brain (exercise, journaling, studying etc) by practising mediocre consistency. Now I try to put in consistent 50-60% effort into my habits - to make sure I do it I began recording it and posting it on YT. After a really bad depression phase I started to believe I couldn’t change and I’d feel that horrible forever. Historically I have a habit of going too hard, not being able to sustain the Herculean effort, giving up and hating myself. So now I’m trying to give a small, consistent mediocre effort everyday. And its crazy how it adds up.

I have been there. Depression is not only mental sickness but a physical sickness. It affects your mind and your body. You can have aches and pains and be so tired and drained that you physically are unable to do anything from washing the dishes to taking a shower. To anyone reading this, you are not alone and you are special, beautiful, talented and have a lot to contribute to this world.🦋

@@emilyfarris3510 Make sure to have your thyroid tested. I went years being medicated for depression and then I got more tired, and my doctor did a full thyroid panel blood test and found out I have hypothyroidism. Being low in vitamins B12, D, Folic Acid, and Iron can cause your symptoms too. Get those levels checked also. Even if they are low, the doctor will tell you you are fine but low means your body needs more of that vitamin to function.

Girl this was the realest and I mean the MOST authentic “getting my life together” video I’ve ever seen. I could not relate to all the “That Girl” videos. It only made me feel more inadequate and self conscious about not being able to wake up super early, working out every day, journaling every day etc. I love how you said “but it’s enough for me” honestly mental healing is SO different for everyone. I had the worst depressive episode of my life this summer and I’m still recovering from it. I was feeling suicidal for the first time in years. I felt like a loser. I felt lazy. I took a break from filming KZbin videos etc and I felt like all the work I did early this year was for nothing BUT this video made me feel SO MUCH BETTER. I felt the “getting better then crashing immediately the next day/next few days girl that literally happened to me last week bc of stress from work. You make me feel like even really pretty people can have terrible moments and I hope you feel better just know you are not alone and no one is judging you 💞

i’m about 7 minutes in but it’s so amazing to hear how aware you are of what works and knowing how much you’re able to manage and when. as well as it’s so heartwarming to see and feel the overwhelming feeling go away slowly after each task you did. you seemed like you smiled more and more after each one

This is my first video watching you. I’m only half way in and girl you showing the realness is so appreciated. I’ve been struggling for about 7 months now (longer than that but the past 7 months have been harder than ever) It’s been one thing after another and I’ve lost a lot of motivation, but the past few days I’ve been trying to pick myself up and stick with trying. Forcing myself to do my skincare, trying to maintain a somewhat clean space, little things that I feel like shouldn’t be hard to do, but for me they are. I’m glad I stumbled upon this video because I’m currently trying to find the motivation to get up off the couch. You’re not alone and it’s cool to see neither am I 💕

I beat myself up for feeling the way I feel and not functioning in the way I know I can, and I can't really figure out how to put how I feel and what's going on in my mind and body in order to let my loved ones help. But this helps a lot, especially when it comes to feeling alone and inadequate and not good enough. I'm so sorry you experience this, but then again it's comforting to know I'm not that much of damaged goods or alone in this.

This is fantastic!! I listened to a video from Jordan Peterson that said to ask yourself day to day, 'What positive thing are you willing to do today?" E.g I may not feel like a workout but I'd be willing to run on the spot for 5 minutes or go for a 10 min walk etc or I don't feel like washing the dishes today but willing to take the rubbish out today or I don''t want to cook but willing to eat a freezer meal today. That's the idea. This is kind of what you were doing. We always will get off track. Any movement you are willing to do that day is great and to rest. Also for anyone reading this, if you are going through hard times constantly, reach out to someone, a friend, family or your doctor. Don't try to do it all on your own. Love this video so much. Thankyou!!

For the jornal part , you don't have to worry about not doing things or blaming yourself that you're staying in bed doing nothing of what you wrote , making jornal is just to keep you organized and reminded , not to punish urself being lazy Just be so gentle on yourself if you haven't done stuff And yes if you are not in the mood to do anything or feeling depressed , stay in bed , do some simple stuff that makes you feel okay , enjoy your break And treat depression as it's physical illness , so enjoy staying in bed till you will be okay I hope you're doing great today ♥️ " Writing that comment from bed not in the mood to do anything while yesterday i was getting things done fast and positively but i know i will getting things done soon again "

This video appeared on my homepage at the perfect time. It made me realise that I put too much pressure on myself when I am struggling with depression. I too have days in bed, have an untidy home and don't eating. It gave me a kick start to do small things and call them successes such as having a shower and making my bed. I thought I needed to encourage myself by watching the 'that girl's' videos to motivate myself, but now I know they were making me worse because they made me realise how much a mess my home and myself were and how big a job it would be to sort myself out. Thank you so much for keeping it real and inspiring others. Even if you don't feel it somedays; you are amazing!! 🤗

Hy Alexa, I'm 56, haven't showered in a loonngg time - haven't done laundry in over a year (my laundry is 4 floors down & ... ) . That being said I can identify w/all that you shared in this video - thank you for sharing it! First, your nails look great! You are a beautiful young woman! I know me sharing those opinions with you won't do much for your depression necessarily cuz it never did too much for mine - but thought I'd say it anyway - Lol!! As for the work/life/care balance - once upon a time I was able to manage my life a bit better & a tip or two I have is/are: Give yourself time limits on each thing you do. Set your alarm & do work for how ever long that is & when that alarm rings - You SToP!! You can take a quick break - do something nice for yourself - put on some makeup, make a nice coffee or tea & or move on to home stuff but again - set the alarm! Even for the self care or fun stuff. I found that when I had boundaries around things it helped me to relax & know that something else ( my alarm) was keeping track of the time so I could just focus on the task at hand. And of course there were many times I just wanted to keep going when the alarm rang- cuz strike while the iron's hot -right? but that was part of the problem for me - I couldn't trust that if I had momentum going & stopped that I would get it back again. But I pushed myself to stop anyway - even tho going is like a good thing - it wasn't if I was trying to find that balance! After I started to manage my stuff this way - at the end of the day it would feel really good & like you did - the accomplishments of the day before were good fuel for trying the next day & so on. NO perfection in it - just a place to try from each new day!! First make yourself a bite sized list of tasks - set your time limits & try it! And of course being able to check off a list upon completion always feels good - gives ya a little boost! I wish you Peace & more good days than bad ❣I know how Real the Struggle is & I hope maybe you find these tips helpful!! PS - I appreciated how you seemed to be gentle w.yourself & give yourself some grace as you were moving thru your tasks - SO important!

Depression isn’t something being so called lazy. It’s a feeling of why even bother. Your whole vibe is you not enjoying anything or anyone. It’s just this dark place that’s feels so comfortable to be in. I asked anyone who’s there don’t get comfortable in it please. Don’t rush through the process to get out of it because you will get yourself right back into it. Just do as much as you can per day and give it your all. No matter how many people tell you need to get out of it won’t help. You have to do it for you. You have to want it for you. Just keep trying everyday you will be better
