After two weeks of waiting our car was finally delivered back to us after being broken down in the Netherlands. This week is a little update about what happened after we got the car back, what we did and didn't pay for, a little bit of me acting stupid, and I also read and answer some comments from the video.
The Netherlands is beautiful and we had such a good experience in Utrecht. I just want to take a moment to say thanks for helping us feel so welcome in your country!

Hey from the Netherlands, I'm glad you both had a good time here. I personally have great experience with Germans, mostly just absolutely lovely people like Daisy. My ex was American, so it's nice to see your perspective on life in Europe and the diversity. Just subbed and I wish you both well, come back again! 😊🌷

Hey Robert, you guys feel at home in The Netherlands, well this must have got something to do with your mentality I'd say. Some people will have bad experiences all over the globe and other people feel welcome wherever they go. You're one of these last category of people ;-). And about languages: yes we talk some English and some German as well I'd say, but no matter how you look at these languages; They are foreign language to us, just like German is to you. If you've not grown up in English or in German, or any other language for all that matters, it will not be your mother language and so you will not be able to express yourself in these foreign languages as well as you can in your true mother language; the language you grew up in. Yes we may be able to talk to you, but please by all means try to understand that although we may appear to be bi-lingual; in general we're not ! That constant feeling in your head of looking for words looking for ways to say the thing you want to say, which you can't due to lack of control over the language, and so we talk in big circles around the issue we'd like to discuss, simply because we have not the knowledge and easiness and flexibility you need to feel 100% at home in a foreign language. So although it may seem like we speak English or German well in the ears of native speakers, there really is nothing more frustrating to hear that you speak that foreign language "So Well" while at the same time you're still thinking how to say thing the way you actually want to say them without the mandatory lingual de-tours due to lack of knowledge of this language. Does this make any sense to you..? I am trying to make a point here...not sure whether it does....

Don't worry I understand what you are saying! As someone who was born and raised speaking English but lives and works in Germany speaking German, I know how it can feel to try and articulate something but you can't quite get it out. It can be frustrating at times! Dutch is definitely on my list of languages to learn. (right after Spanish, that is!)

I grew up close to the German boder and when I was young we only had Dutch and German tv. So when I went to highschool it wasnt very difficult for me to learn German. I ended up with 9/10 fo German and 8/10 for English on my exams. Years later I started on the highspeed train to Paris and I had to learn French too. In French I really have to search for words. Depending on the surroudings my English and German are about equal, BUT... German is a much more 'technical' language with cases (although I mostly speak on my feeling, does it sound ok?). Thats why it feels you have to think more while speaking German. English feels more natural. German seems very simular to Dutch and the contruction of sentences is the same, but the pronounciation of German is very strict and sharp and needs more effort for a Dutch native speaker. English fits better to the lazy Dutch mouth. I think thats one of the main reasons to speak English. When I still worked on the train and was speaking German, the moment I spoke one word French (Sacre Coeur, Champs Elysee) I would switch to French. I really had to stop talking and clear my head and start over again in German.

Speaking German to Dutch people shouldn't cause much of a problem. I'm Dutch and grew up watching German television, (ARD, ZDF, and WDR). So I understand it well enough to know what German-speaking people are talking about. Speaking it is something else. It's harder because in Dutch we don't use all those different cases (genitive, dative, and accusative) except for a couple of archaic expressions. English is like our second language.

Deutsch or English. Für mich kein problem. Depends who's asking. Ich mag die Deutsche. Glad you liked your stay, despite the issues with your car. Schönen tag noch. Grüsse aus NL

I think us Dutchies are a bit annoyed with people talking German to us because it's mistaken with being the Dutch language. Deutsch = German Nederlands = Dutch
