I love your idea about watching a KZbin you can follow then purchase the pattern. Took me awhile to figure that out. But now I know if I can’t follow a certain KZbinr I most likely can’t follow their written pattern

I laughed about the magic ring, lol. I do not use them because I find they tend to come undone at some point. I use the plain old chain 4 and slip stitch in the first stitch. Voilà ring and there I go! ☺

Great topic Shannon! I agree 100%. We do get in our own way! I am easily distracted so it’s a daily challenge because I love yarn and crochet/knitting so much it’s always swirling around my brain. Yarn. Colors. Patterns. All of it. And yes. I have many times been influenced by makers/content creators. Also cannot retain verbal instructions as well as visual. I have crocheted since I was a young child and it’s always been this way. But you, and others , do keep me thinking and creating and inspiring me!! If my Mom could have had the ability to find patterns this way, she would have loved it. She and I bonded over our love of all things creative. Thank you Shannon, for another interesting post!! Really enjoy your “talks” !! Your yarns and colors are gorgeous. Btw. 😉

What stops me from overthinking is accepting the fact that my budget doesn’t allow me to buy all the yarns I want for all the projects I want to make so I’m using what I have and make repeat patterns in different colors.

I overthink everything 😂 similar to your magic ring story, my Mum and grandmother tried multiple times to tech me to knit/crochet as a child. Between them they had successfully taught dozens of people but I just could not get it and finally they pronounced me unteachable. Jump forward 40 years and I saw a video on social media of a woman showing how to knit using the words stab it, strangle it, Bury it and my brain clicked. So I bought some cheap yarn and needles and I found I could do basic knitting. From there I decided to try crochet and found that following KZbin videos works best for me. I think a huge part of my struggling to learn as a child is due to the fact that I hold my yarn differently, the traditional way just doesn't work for me. Thank you for yet another awesome video 😁

My spirit says natural fibers. My wallet says acrylic. 😅 I started out doing amigurumi but realized what will I do with them? Nothing. I will make something for someone but for myself it just takes up space. So I switched to wearables. But I live in South Florida so natural fibers are better than acrylic.

Anything tweed-natural fiber OR acrylic, I’m in! I agree with you, there’s room for all types of yarn. Helpful video, thank you.

I absolutely have many notions bags too lol. I have one main bag that I tend to favor because its bigger and has all the things, but then I make little satellite bags with just scissors, yarn needle, and stitch markers in them to put in project bags. So helpful!

I love these so much. Thank you for saying to use the type of pattern (written or video) that is best for each of us. So many insist on written and I can use those but it's a challenge and I don't enjoy it. I enjoy projects with video patterns.

I love that vest!! Is there a tutorial? I am with you with the magic ring. I couldn't figure it out either and realized the slip knot way to do it. Glad to learn that the way I'm doing it is also correct. Thank you.

Is overthinking so bad?? I love to overthink when it comes to my hobbies. I love to let the ideeas flow thru my brain! You can never have too many ideas. Searching stores and online for patterns and yarns is fun! I write down a list of ideas, then I organize the ideas and ask myself: What do I need? What can I afford? Bad ideas I can thru out the window, but it was fun to think about it until I am finished with the thought and realize it was not for me. Then I look for another idea. Other areas in life I really try not to overthink because it only stresses me out. Easy to get stuck in life if you think too much. Its of no use. Relax and not be too hard on myself.

Beautiful points! I can relate so much! I've been pondering a project for months and months, sampling yarns, running tests, taking notes - and I still haven't bit the bullet and bought the yarn... yet! 😂 I think there's a difference between planning , analyzing, and dreaming - and "overthinking". The emotions are different. For me, there's a lot of joy in the pondering and planning process. Then, after I've thoroughly vetted the project, I know I've eliminated a lot of potential heartbreak and wasted resources (money or emotional energy) and can enjoy the anticipation of the finished piece. In life, we have few opportunities to make choices at our leisure. Many choices we make are demanded of us in a small window of time. Our creative outlets give our souls what we cannot get from other places - and for some of us, that means the freedom to take our time and think things through thoroughly. 💕

@@slowcrochet Yes its a joy to plan! Today I ordered a yarn online. Its a woolyarn and I wanted this brand for more than two? years. And the pattern is from a book I bought 2010. Now is the time to buy it: Get a d iscount+ get a paycheck big enough for new projects + I need woolcardigans for the winter=go for it! Next month: probably fimoclay.

My problem is I buy yarn and have an idea for it. However, I might be currently working on a project and forget about the yarn still in the bag. I find the yarn a couple of months later and think, "What did I buy this for"? Crazy. 🤔
