I had a similar experience last year during the threatened Amtrak strike. Took Amtrak to Dallas. The train back home was cancelled. Had to book a first class seat $$$$ out of Dallas to get home all economy seats booked up fast.

Britain's first High Speed Railway? We already had high speed 125mph rail way back in the 1970s. HS1 was a dedicated line from London to the Channel Tunnel (previously the trains shared tracks with slower trains).The trains now run slightly faster 180mph but the government is already wasting money on HS2 to take the line thru Birmingham to stations further North.

Will, I have to say that your trip planning was really great. I plan all of our trips but we stay in the U.S. It is so much work planning the trip with transportation, tickets, flights, hotels, tours, etc. Glad you got home okay. Get some rest and welcome home.

I live in France yet I’ve never taken the train for this very reason! Every single month SNCF employees are complaining and on strike for something! I wish the country would privatize it and stop wasting money on a failing system! FYI most of us, especially where I live in the South of France fly! It’s quicker and cheaper than TVG (which isn’t even available in my department).
