Moray coast here. Ive made a huge pan of stew which i will heat up first thing tomorrow and get in food flasks. Ive boiled eggs so we can have them cold if necessary. We have half a dozen rolls and a loaf of bread. Tins of ham and chicken. Will also be filling a 2 litre flask of hot water and two 1 litre flasks with coffee and cocoa in. Ive got 40 litres of water in bottles and a 25 litre jerry can filled (Storm Arwen took our water pumping station out for three days. Lesson learned!). Ive got a camp stove, and a Trangia. Lanterns, candles, wind up torches and wind up radio. My two big Anker power stations are fully charged. Blankets are stacked on the sofa. Think im ready…..

I'm in the Red zone in central belt. staying home and battoning down the hatches too. made soup and big pot of stew so that i have some nice home cooked warming food to just warm up on camp stove if power goes out. got everything charged, airpots filled and blanket hoodies looked out :) torches and lanterns and radio sorted. fingers crossed there is no damage. stay safe everyone and especially to our celtic neighbours in ireland who will get the brunt of this storm.

we feel fully prepared for our storms too but there's always something! I like to have a book, playing cards and board games and crafting items ready too. Also a power pack charged up ready for my phone.

I’m in Upstate New York and have been through a blizzard, heavy snow, a derecho, tornadoes and power loss up to 10 days- we’re in a rural area. My advice for anyone would be to fill your bathtubs with water, have as much spare water on hand, maybe go and buy water bottles, buy a generator if you can, if you use coal or wood, make sure you have it on hand and nearby so you don’t have to wander out. Spare batteries, flashlights, matches, lighters and candles. Move anything that can become a projectile- umbrellas, chairs, outdoor tables and furniture, if you have time, trim tree branches away from the home and stay inside as much as possible. Sending everyone good thoughts and energy. 💝🙏🏻

Good advice. Same advice that those of us in Florida use during hurricane season. I actually have a hurricane closet stocked year round with all emergency essentials so when the warnings hit, I just make a quick top off to food essentials.

Here in sw wales (coastal) we are already getting high winds of 70mph at 10pm, and building to stronger now. And we are only in the yellow zone! I have a feeling this is going to be a hum-dinger. We are prepared, of course, as we often get winter gales. Everyone, stay safe.

Yup red warning here in Fife and we live by the sea. Garden all tidied and ornaments layed flat. Bread, milk and essentials in. Kitty tray in for the cat. Cyberpower unit, phones and tech charged. Torches and candles ready, hopefully not needed. Stay safe folks❤

For the future you might want to buy a weather radio that has a crank on it. They can usually charge a phone and have a light as well.

Weather radio as in the Noaa type pointless in the UK we don't use the band... We rely on local bbc radio for emergency information wind up stuff is such a faff be better with a decent battery radio with usb charging that opens up decent solar charging or use the car

@andymonty2528 mine has a dial to choose other radio stations. The NOAA part is for alerts in the US but it has more functionality than that. Mine even has a solar panel and compass. It's a handy little thing.

Lucky you. I was told the skip shop I work in will be opened at 9am and I'm expected at work for my shift as normal. Thankfully I am doing the afternoon shift, hopefully it won't be as bad then.

The shop I work in is in the rural area and not many people will be out in that weather. We will be standing around pretending to be busy, as usual during bad weather.

I am in Kent yellow warning. Had more problems with wind than flooding in my area. I have added a dead hedge for wildlife round my garden, it will will be a windbreak. People have fences, and they just keep falling down in wind. have stocked up, brought stuff in, secured stuff.i dont have a car so i dont need to park it elsewhere away from trees. got some storm watching snacks. put bird food on the ground as i dont want the bird feeders to fly everywhere. london may have a tornado according to some weather reports. we have a power line near by but not red warning so hopefully ok. am staying in. secure gates, dont let dogs get out on to the roads

It’s a shame you can’t work from home more regularly. I work predominantly from home and it’s great not having to worry about commuting. The storm is already quite bad here in Nottinghamshire and I know it’s meant to be worst up in Scotland. Hope you’re all ok! My twins’ school will still be open but they did close for snow before (they’re in secondary school)
