The plaintiff says the defendant, her oldest son, got mixed up with the wrong crowd at age 16 and was arrested for fighting. She claims she loaned him money for lawyers, so she’s suing to get repaid. The defendant admits he videotaped a fight, but he denies owing his mother for anything.

When he said that’s what mothers are for... the amount of entitlement of some men/children is incredible. Your mother should not have to be put into financial hardship for your mistake, especially when you are old enough to know better!
@The-Mediator

And that’s what JM’s mother already knew and wouldn’t give him a dime when he was in that predicament. More more mothers need to stop spoiling children and hold children accountable when they screw up so that they’re not entitled to begin with. If not, they create little narcissists that they will NEVER change.

$100 a week while he was in prison?! Wow. That is such a blessing and he doesn't even realize it. Some people go to prison and don't get anything from loved ones - not letters, cards, money, or visits. I hope this young man recognizes how much his mother loves him.

The son quoted “When did you ever hear of someone having to pay their mother back”. Let me tell you something, not only did my father make me pay any money I borrowed back, He charged me interest on top of that. At 2% above prime, calculated daily. When I was much younger ( I am 66 now) I borrowed $5,000 for a new car. I was only 18 with no credit history, so I could not get a bank loan. He even made me get my own insurance policy, and would not put me on his policy. I went to school and was working since I was 12 or 13 years old. I had to make monthly payments on my car and on top of that $50 a week rent. That $5,000 car after all was said and done. After all the payments to my father were made, cost me almost $13,000. You have no idea of how lucky you are to even have a mother to lend you money. She should not had to take you to court. You should buy her flower, take her out to dinner and thank your lucky stars you have such a person in your life!!!!

He threw me off, when Judge Mathis, asked him what did he plan on doing, He said he wanted to do Construction work, but chose the lightest position, a FLAGGER! If you are as smart as you and your mom claim you to be. Why settle for nothing? Then after his mom won the case, he's upset she got him out of a bind, that obviously he couldn't get out on his own, then wanted his mom to excuse $3,000.00 of damage he caused to his potential livelihood. Children can be so UNGRATEFUL! They are grown, defiant, deceitful, and impulsive until they get into trouble, then they become children again! Responsibility and Accountability are key! He comes off as spoiled and entitled and that's TROUBLE!

I can see both sides.... Black people should try more to position their children to have higher chances of success but there’s so much against some Black families already that limits that. Unfortunately she likely didn’t have anyone to help her build generational wealth and may not have the earning potential to part with $3600 permanently. Doesn’t sound like he had a male figure support. He also needs to pay for his mistakes so he hopefully won’t do it again. That money could have went into savings for him or a certificate program to advance his career but it went to the State. Total waste. Hopefully he will learn from this. When I moved into an apartment in my early 20s I borrowed my deposit from my mom. She had me sign a promissory note. I didn’t pay her back for years and she only mentioned it once. I eventually gave it back to her cause I never forgot cause it took everything in me to borrow that money. I also felt like well damn you can afford this $850 I’m your child why can’t you just give it to me but she’s done a LOT of other things for me so it is what it is. The mentality often is you have to struggle to appreciate but that’s not the case always.

@@tom11zz884 I am only going by what I have seen as an educator. I also, was a home bound educator. Many things go on in the homes, that are never discussed about a father. I have SEEN so many things in my 23 years as an educator. It appears to me, that YOU are the one that became defensive. However, it is, what it is.

@DJ QuanTeck Yes, I was a single mother, with a son that owns a successful business, who is the father of a daughter, that completed Law School this year, and is now studying for the bar. He also, has another daughter, that is 18 and in her second year of college. Yes, DJ, I was a single mother, that now has a Bachelors and Masters Degree, all PAID FOR, AND WITHOUT THE ASSISTANCE OF MY BIOLOGICAL FAMILY. Can YOU say the same?
@lyndiablack9098
@lyndiablack9098 4 жыл бұрын
@DJ QuanTeck I don't put down Black men and I did not put you down, Quan. There are good Black men that are raising their children. There are good Black women that are raising their children. There are BOTH trifling women AND men, with kids. Every case is different. I am glad you are raising your son. Let me give you a word of advice: DON'T BECOME YOUR CHILD'S FRIEND. You are his father, not his buddy. Do the right things in front of your child, let him see you working and/or going to school to improve yourself. DON'T PUT ANY WOMAN BEFORE YOUR CHILD. If you get the SLIGHTEST inclination, that your mate don't like your child, GET RID OF THEM, FAST. Teach your son right from wrong, and MONITOR HIS FRIENDS, AT ALL TIMES. If possible, put your child in a private school and monitor his assignments. Get to know his teachers and give them your telephone number and make yourself available. Being a single parent, involves SACRIFICES, A LOT OF THEM, but it may be worth it in the end. I use the word "may" because you can give your child everything, and they will still let you down, but as long as you know you did your best, you will be able to sleep with a clear conscious. Good luck, Quan. I believe your son will be an asset to our community.
