“Attack your target” will still have the Dino defend you if you are attacked. “Neutral” is the better option. They will only defend themselves if attacked. “Passive” keeps them from moving from where you place them. This is handy when you are on the raft

No, Neutral makes them defend the player. Attack your target they also go in as soon as the player attacks.

Tips, axe for hide, smooth round river rocks for early game metal, club is best for early K.O., tame a parasaur asap for berrys and huge carry weight, sickle only gathers fibre, make 4 walls and 4 fence foundations for a mobile trap for small dinos, bola, build trap around. Trikes have armored face, turtles have armored shells= less or no damage/topor. put torch on belt to free up hands, don't take rafts in deep water leeds attack, sarco and kapro can pull you off a raft. put your monkey on attack my target, he will throw poop slowing your enemy. empty beaver dams or they will not respawn. I whip can pick 5 times your weight. Always have dinos on passive on a raft or disaster ensues., hide sail on raft for better visibility. Dimorphs ignore armor, don't attack, all babys can be passived tame if you kill mom. Create a tribe so you have a tribe log, to see if dino's died. 7k hours here and all no B.S. advice Good luck and love to see you playing this!

I like to use Parasaurs as early game "Trucks" for hauling resources I harvest. Easy to tame, faster than trikes, carry a lot.

Downside with paras over trikes is paras are useless in combat, trikes can defend themselves if you get attacked by raptors or a carno while moving stuff around.

Tip for getting spoiled meat fast is to separate the meat into stacks of 1. The way the spoil system works is by spoiling 1 at a time per stack. So by separating them you get tons of spoiled meat for narco. (also I've always done carry weight and agility/stamina, being able to out run certain dinos early game comes in clutch.)

It's amazing to think, this is what ue5 games should all look like soon.. it takes a beefy computer and dlss to get great frame rates but it's easily one of the prettiest games out now

I'm not sure if it's been said yet, but here's a few tips for what dinos are best at resource gathering: Beavers for wood, Parasaurs and Trikes for berries, Ankylosaurs for mining I believe, Argentavis' are good for hauling obsidian and iron ore (they also act as mobile furnaces iirc and are able to pick up smaller dinosaurs to carry them). If you find more Lystrasaurus' tame a few, if you pet them then any dino in a certain radius will get an XP boost.

Paras and trikes are good for early game berry farming but they're far from the most efficient overall, later in the game they're way outclassed by therizinosaurs. Beavers correct. Ankys correct, they're best for metal and also really good for flint. Argies are great overall workhorse mounts, they don't act as mobile furnaces but they DO act as mobile smithies, you can craft mid game gear in their inventory but they don't smelt metal. I'd tame one and level weight and stamina to use for resource runs and another one and level health and damage as a combat mount, they're strong in both roles. One thing not mentioned is stone, for harvesting stone efficiently the animal you want is doedicurus, they harvest it fast and get a whopping 75% reduction in weight for that resource.

For a more fun experience, you will want to crank up the taming/breeding/maturing rates. It can take hours and hours to tame high level dinos Edit: To further clarify, as @gamergravyky pointed out - you definitely will want to tweak all the other stats as well, I would recommend 5x on everything except the Taming/Breeding/Maturing, on those you'll want 15-20x to make the game much more enjoyable for a solo play!

Small, smooth rocks near or in the creeks, rivers are a great source of early metal. I think it’s only 1 metal Ingot for a metal pick if I remember correctly. Haven’t been on ASA just yet to see if the recipe is the same. With the graphic updates I’d check the small rocks they may not just be smooth any longer.

It used to be movement speed and weight first, but they got rid of speed leveling. You want to level up weight, stamina, fortitude and health.

there is an option in single player (or server settings if you're hosting) to allow speed leveling. Dino and player speed leveling are separate options... so it's disabled by default but you can enable it

They've added baby dinos. If you kill the parents you can claim the babies. They grow super fast once you claim them. Just make sure to give them food to grow.

For anyone watching this and wondering if you can level speed on your character and on flyers, you still can on a solo world. You just have to enable it in the menu settings. I'm unsure if this also applies to all dinos, or just flyers. You can pretty much configure single player and custom servers exactly as you could before with ark survival evolved. I believe it's only official servers that have speed disabled.

The food you feed dinos to tame effects the taming efficiency. Better efficiency means they get more levels when they tame. Best food is usually Kibble, which you are a ways from making. Otherwise it's raw Prime Meat for carnivores, Raw Prime Fish Meat for fish eaters, Mejoberry or veggies for Herbivores. Other berries are used for feeding the tame herbivores. Axe and Pickaxe can both be used for gathering most things. Pickaxe gets you more flint, Axe will get you more stone. Resources do regenerate over time, but there is a dead zone around structures you build. The size of the dead zone is in your settings. Spend your attribute points first, as that is what actually increases your level, then buy engrams. There is a whole lot to Ark that is "hidden" and trying to just learn as you go is a nightmare, especially if you are playing solo. If you want to do a series for Ark (I think you would do a fantastic job of one BTW), I recommend you play with someone who knows how the game works off camera to learn the ropes. It's the little things that can kill you in Ark. Side Note: Those little thieving dinos usually steal whatever is in your right most quickbar slot first. If you put Mejoberries in that slot, they will steal them, eat them, and then tame.

So excited you are playing this!!!!!! From stats. Weight is number 1. I'd say some melee and health will be the other ones. Don't bother with water or food or oxygen. Weight will be your biggest issue until you get into good dinos to carry stuff. Put a bed on your raft so if you die you spawn there as an option. I'd put your dinos on passive while traveling on the boat so they don't attack anything and jump off. Otherwise keep them on neutral

A little QoL tip: Use the "F" key to access the Forge, Fire, etc., to avoid turning them off/on. AND also using the "F" key while you are riding a mount, will open their inventory, and double tapping "F" will get "The Monkey off your back". Glad to see you playing ARK: SA! parasaur are my go-to 1st mount. easy tame and they can harvest berries and fiber like a machine. 2nd is a pteranodon Bolo both and wack 'em with a club until you can pile goodies in their inventory.

I'm a big Ark fan so seeing you play it is pretty awesome. I am under the impression it won't run on my rig and I don't really want to rebuy the game so I really hope this series continued and you got a copy from the devs and that you have more fun this time around.

it should run on anything.. it's just a matter of how good the quality is.. It does support dlss, frame generation, disabling lumen and the water/ sand/ snow and even foliage physics as well. I have an older cpu with a 4090 and get about 50 or so fps without dlss.. with dlss I can get over 100 fps.. I'd just recommend a 2070 or better to play it and it look very good.. you can turn off global illumination, reduce shadows and enable dlss with frame generation and get good frames on about any decent rig though

Stim berries can be used as stimulates, or turned into one, and the other berries are mostly just there for dyes and some recipes. I would recommend getting an iguanadon asap, because for an early game mount, they are beastly. Infinite stamina in 4 legged mode, decent weight, pretty fast, can jump, and you can use tools on its back, plus it can seed berries if you wanted to start a farm. However, for a first berry gatherer, moschops or parasaur is pretty decent, moschops being able to harvest fiber and berries, and might be able to fit in your base, idk if there is double doors in yet.

I always keep a few berries or fiber in my zero slot as the pegos will steal from there first. As well as those annoying itchy birds. If you attack one type of normally non aggressive animal, many times they'll have pals around who will also come attack you, so watch out what you attack. One turtle is fine, 3 turtles may kill you, lol. Also trikes are very aggressive if you attack one of them. They also charge.

Fairly sure it's a murder of raptors ;) The slingshot does knockout damage using stones as ammo, so is useful for low-level tames.

I was hoping to see you playing this game, it's amazing, long, but amazing, and unlike 7 days where a game gets boring after the 7th or 8th horde night, Ark and the Ark gods, will always keep the challenge up (even if it is through gliches and bugs) 😂 good luck man, looking forward for an amazing series FYI - press H to see temperature, time, day, and location. Also, put a bed in your raft. Also, there's no such thing as beaching your raft, you can basicaly hit everything asnd it's good to go. There's only one water dino that can destroy your raft, it's called lich something, and is only found in deep water. Sail close to the coast and you'll be fine. Last advice 😅 organic polymer gives you food, water and hp at the same time, plus gives you an xp boost, but eat it only when you're in your base because you lose speed 😘 good luck

Couple tips- When a stack of meat is about expire right click and unstack all to make a lot of spoiled meat quickly Press "T" to quick transfer stuff Ex. from inventory to campfire so you dont have to drag stuff around and u can tame baby creatures of you kill the "parent" dino that is close to it.

There's a lot of different approaches to how you'd want to pump your stats. But some good minimums which I think _most_ would want in their build: __ Health: 10+ points (200+ hp) -- I eventually like 470 hp (37 points) to survive terminal velocity falls without a broken leg Stamina: 5 points (150% stam) -- Can get away with 2 or 3 points. May want 10 points for an oxygen focused swimmer build or hardcore melee build. 5 points is usually enough to finish running away from 'trouble' when needed, or swimming far enough to get away. Oxygen: playstyle dependent, is overly nerfed on vanilla settings. Food: noobtrap Water: noobtrap Weight: 15+ points (250 weight) -- at 50% max weight you start to lose move speed, at 85% you're encumbered. You want to dance weight & movement up together, & don't over-carry. Melee damage: playstyle dependent Movement speed: 10+ points (115% movement) puts you just a hair faster than a raptor or direwolf ...assuming you're under 50% weight capacity. More points escapes more things. Fortitude: 4-8 It's biome/playstyle dependent -- A few points is nice in any build. If you live in a hostile biome, or want to go hard in melee (and need torpor resist) you'll want much more. Great gear lessens the value of fortitude eventually. Crafting skill: 0 points ~or~ ALL points. -- You mind-wipe, put ALL points in crafting, make blueprint gear, then mindwipe back to normal build. The effect of 1 point is miniscule, 100 points is very interesting though. Only boosts the 'above normal' portion of a blueprint's stats, so it only works on blueprints above gray, and only works _well_ on _good_ blueprints (RNG is involved, make several wherever possible). At 103 points it could turn a 200% crossbow blueprint (for example) into a 250% crossbow, etc. It'd be a whole 'crafting day' pre-prepped with good blueprints and lots of materials. Also desirable for crafting custom food blueprints. Putting points into crafting for day-to-day build is a noobtrap. I generally wouldn't touch crafting skill until level 75+ and have multiple mindwipes in stock. (mindwipe tonic = forgetin' elixir from 7d2d, but somewhat more obtainable) note - unless they've _massively_ fixed things in ASA, the 'armor rating' on armor blueprints is worthless (actually makes armor break faster), and the 'durability' rating is _everything_ . Saddles though, you want armor %. __ With no boss kills or multi-map progression, you can level up to 104 (103 points to spend). But leveling slows considerably around level 75 unless you use strats to deliberately focus on it. But the above recommendations (44-48 points) are pretty core to any build. With Health, Weight, Movement, and possibly Melee or Fortitude as most tempting areas to go further. Or oxygen, if you want to explore the sea without scuba... but you'll want flippers for more swim movement (and that's scuba-tier gear anyway), so... yeah. oxygen was over-nerfed (years ago, I'm still bitter 😜 )

I've never played Ark but I know the spyglass will help you identify creatures from afar. Also, I saw fur armor in the crafting menu...might help with nighttime chills?

as someone with way too much time in the game, the spyglass will give you the name and level of the dino, if you really get into breeding you can also use the magnifying glass to look at stats.. fur will help in most biomes and if you goto a snow biome it's a must to survive.. it's just expensive early game, playing the game vanilla you'll have to hunt drops to get a good blueprint for a high level fur outfit to survive the coldest areas for very long (assuming you don't go crazy with the server settings)

Just keep taming bigger and better dinos or what? I've never played but have watched a few content creators play. I just never understood the fascination with the game. Maybe you could help explain?

@@Lorri. You level up fast early in the game but it really drops off after a while and levels start coming a lot slower. The point of the game is to beat the map. There are a series of artifact items you have to collect from caves that range from pretty easy to super difficult. Once you have the artifacts you can use them to fight the 3 bosses of The Island. After you beat them they drop the items you need to face the final boss of the island. Then you've beaten the map. You can keep playing on it to tame more animals if you want or, when they're out, tackle one of the other maps. Each map brings it's own unique challenges and has different boss challenges.

If it exactly like Ark survival evolved if you put a stack of mejo berries in you last belt slot, the thief Dino’s will steal only them and self tame themselves while stealing from you, also you can passive tame trikes by feeding them while you have the berries in that last slot

The Eagle-like Argentavis is the best for Metal gathering. Just go all the way to the mountains on foot and tame one XD

Disclaimer: I am no expert in ARK but I did love the game back then and this is how I learned to play but it is in no way the only way to play. Always think with tames in mind, they're always gonna be more efficient than doing things on your own and some tames will be more efficient in harvesting specific resources. Weight and Speed is a priority early on up until you can get your base and tames going. There's a mindwipe tonic that you can use to respec later so don't worry too too much about doing your stats wrong. Since this is the Island, priority tames are gonna be simple like getting a fast mount like a raptor or a Pteranodon or a meatier but slower sabertooth then preparing for capturing an Argentavis. Once you have an Argentavis, the next ones are gonna be a Doedecirus and an Ankylo for gathering stone and metal faster. An Argentavis helps so much in carrying these two into taming pens so yes an Argentavis makes life so much easier. As for the berries, Narco and Stim have their respective use-cases but for the others they're mostly used for kibble but Mejoberries are your best option when it comes to taming vegetarians if you have no vegetable or kibble on hand

The small low rounded rocks near rivers yield a decent amount of metal. Put a forge on a raft and go to the red obelisk where there are many of those rocks scattered around it, outside the swamp the only threat to a raft is crocs and then moby dick in deeper waters. Get 12 metal, smelt it then place a smithy to craft a metal pick that gets a lot more metal and that will get you all your tools and more ingots. * raptors are not good for resource runs unless you have a bunch of them.

Tame a dodo and toss it into your hut as an early game Preserving Bin. It's almost like putting your "Fruit" drinks in a cooler but you forget the ice. Also, I would highly recommend staying far away from all flying creatures for a while.

If you want iron for iron ingits you need to harvest the stone that looks like round large pebbles not the assorted shape stones and use the pickaxe hope this helps.

I Normally put points into fortitude first, only until 7 or 9 because it helps get rid of the annoying Overheating and freezing status effects

yes all the resources respawn when you're out in the render of the land to make them respawn the pickaxe is good for flint thatch metal crystal meat axe wood hide keratin chitin sickle fiber Raw Prime Fish Meat and crops weight go up to 300 for starters 200 for stamina and health 500 to survive more easy in the early playthrough in the mid way your playing 500 weight to easily move or carry more item then all in to health again for most of the players but all players know just enjoy the game and have fun and do what suits our play style right

My usual leveling pattern is weight to 200 first, then fortitude to 20, speed to 15, health to 200, stamina to 200, and randomly bouncing between weight and health from there on... maybe more fortitude eventually for the snow biome. I use dinos for combat so I don't bother leveling melee and I don't go under water without a Baryonyx or Basilosaurus and scuba gear so I don't level Oxygen either.

Dinos can see through open windows and doors, forget about taming until you can protect said tames...you need a storage compound so they can not be seen by hostiles. Building and narc production is great XP, then you can get tames going. Trapping and slingshots work well early game, have 2 on hotbar with repair mats and lots of rocks. The lighting is less harsh if you disable bloom and lightshafts, bloom forever and always in the history of ark being the most offending to our eyes.

NGL, I'm tempted to create a small list of pro tips to help you overcome some of those early-game obstacles, but I admittedly enjoy watching you fight through it ha ha! Nothing screams "ARK!" like taming, naming, and losing a dino all in the same 20 minutes.
