So, you're finally confident enough to make tutorials :) I think you forgot couple things: - COMPASS - when you said about sense of direction, this tool can aid you. Just remember which way you left your base, and you can backtrack if lost. - Flares are useful to mark your way at night (breadcrumbs technique) - Portable Power Generator - this thing is survival lifesaver. If you are in a pinch you can take fuel (O2H2 mix) canister from your welder and use it to generate power and charge your batteries. Even at night. It's essential early on on low sun starts like Mimas. - Coal generators are useful, just not so much early in game - 20kW is a lot. But you need station battery to make full use of it. Generally they are perfect backup power. - Solar panels are not obstructed by windows, allowing you to use them indoors - very useful early on in place like Vulcan when you can't go out during the day to adjust panels. - Tanks and chests are mobile, it's easier to drag components chests near where you're building instead of going back and forth - be careful not to crush yourself. - You can top up your personal tank in portable tank black-yellow striper port. A thing that would save me lot of piping effort in my early plays. - You can drag cables through blocks - handy if you don't want to get two lines get across each other but not connect. If you want to make solar tracking tutorial next, let me know if you'd like to discuss anything. I still have save with my Solar tutorial i made for you over half a year ago :) While you're working on simple setup, I think I'll try to make more advanced one ;]

Unfortunately solar panels are now obstructed by windows. You can't use them indoors anymore. They changed it in some recent release.
@UfoLBeerSeeker4 жыл бұрын
@@grahamr2809 Well, not literally. But you can grind frames to the point you can walk through them and then place cables inside. Once you're done, weld everything back up. Just make sure they are safe from burning or it may be difficult to find. Same tactic applies to pipes as well. I think you can place other things inside unwelded frames too, unless they changed it recently. I used to store tanks and logic chips inside frames when couldn't find space.

I 'mastered' the tutorial, just to realize, that I have no clue how to apply the learned things. Or rather to be confronted with problems, the tutorial did never go into. Like - HOW you get power and stuff... In my first try I was running around like a headless chicken searching for coal, just because the damned solar-panel didn't produce steady enough power to let my workstations run and such. Never had anticipated how important the APCs really are :D So let me dive in there once more. Turning the Arc furnace off midway remind me of something, when you were doing the Mars run you were complaining that you didn’t have access to stacker/splitters for halving ingots, you can actually feed ingots into the arc furnace and it will “process” them, turn it off halfway and it spits the processed out the back and the unprocessed in the input so you get your two bricks (I haven’t tried will alloys but it works for the basics) and to combine stack just put them into a production block and eject, Great tutorial as always mate 👍, wish it was around when I started stationers

Agree with @John Hathaway, I went through the Stationeers tutorials and nearly died my first couple of days from running low on power. I was trying to build an airtight base first (and on the Moon) so this tutorial is very helpful. Thanks @Splitsie! Update: they changed the recipe, The Solar Panel Kit now requires "steel" that you cannot make with an Arc Furnace. I built a "furnace" but I have no idea how to plumb it. Sigh.
@Splitsie3 жыл бұрын
With the basic furnace a simple way to plumb it for basic alloys like steel is to attach a pipe to the output, then a pipe valve, then another piece of pipe and finally a passive vent. With this setup you can put oxite and volatiles into the furnace directly and if done at the correct ratios you can also put coal and iron in and get steel out. There's a fairly well written guide to how to do this in the Stationeers wiki stationeers-wiki.com/Main_Page
@melsilva91583 жыл бұрын
@@Splitsie Thanks for the reply! I managed to figure that part out (eventually) and I've figured out how to use active filtering to capture CO2 and Water (from ice thrown in the furnace). What I can't figure out now, is that I read that you can use a "Kit (Atmospherics) Electrolyzer" to separate water into H2 and O2 to power the furnace. I got it plumbed in, but it won't seem to light. Either that requires way more water than I have or it's been nerfed out of the game.

Bought this game because of this video. Having a great time. So far I have... Turned my furnace into a bomb... Cooked my base using my furnace... Melted my face walking past the exhaust from my furnace... Automated my greenhouse to pull in cold CO2 from the martian environment to keep it cool.... Automated vented atmosphere from greenhouse to keep pressure proper.... Got thrown off a mountain by explosive decompression.... Automated 1-axis solar tracking with only 4 chips... Busted my helmet multiple times reach for things under stairs and bonking my head because crouch isn't a thing.... Automated my arc furnace with chutes and logic chips so I can isolate it in a small room to claim its gases.... Having a blast. A couple tips for early game. Use the wrench to detach the cargo containers from the lander, then drag them to you base site. Autolathe can build lockers. 2x locker kits makes a big 30 slot lockers. Most things can only be built on frames. But it connected up will remain when the fram it gone. So make a frame roof and put your lights up there and wiring them. Then remove the frames and the cables will hold up the lights so you can use walls or windows for you roof. Similarly, if you want multiple floors without a full frame for the floor, put the frame in the lower level, build your stuff for the next floor up, remove frame, add floor.

Just a few things: -Torch fuel is precious early game. Always make a point of turning it off. Then take a breath and check that you turned the torch off. -Pressing either of the yellow buttons on any production machine will cause it to complete the current item, then stop. No more waiting around to stop a machine. -Jetpack fuel is any gas and decidedly non-critical early game (or ever). Your suit exhales to a waste tank as long as you are 1)wearing it, and 2)breathing. When your waste tank is full or your jetpack fuel tank is empty, simply swap them. No downside to using your jetpack.

When you get to the data ports, maybe in a later video: there are very few machines that absolutetly need the data port connected to be able to acccess data from that machine. In fact, the only one i can think of is the computer. All other dataports are more for seperating data lines from main power grids. You can access data from both the data and the power port. When you try to find data from a certain machine and try that on your main power line, it gets messy. Seperate data lines was one of the design challenges that i liked the most about that game. For instance, i really liked my solar logic wall, that had its data from solar Panels before the station battery, but the power ports were connected to the main grid after the battery, so the logic could run at night and reset to the sunˋs position in the morning
@Splitsie4 жыл бұрын
Oh cool, that makes sense about the power thing. Will have to remember that :)
@Frank-ys4yz4 жыл бұрын
I found the solar panel with power and data on one port much easier to work with than the separate one. Batch writers can write across power networks. You can have a batch writer with power and input connected to your normal cable network, and output linked into the solar panel network. In this way you can save a lot of cables and you can also have multiple rows of solar panels compactly (one per frame).
@Splitsie4 жыл бұрын
I always prefer to use the separated one because it makes creating an isolated logic circuit for the panels easier which is helpful as your base gets larger and more devices are connected to your power system

No reason to eat food at full health, you can stretch your starting food stores out quite a bit if you wait until you're at "critical" health (25%) then taking just a bite of the cereal bar. By the time you run out of food meter again, you'll just hit full health. A great method for early game, but I recommend turning down the UI volume to zero or the constant alarms will drive you nuts.

The hardest part to figure out for me has been the atmospherics (gas management): mixing gases, managing temperature, and pressure in your base. Once you get a small room built, the tank of O2 I would actually save for your suit. Use an active vent connected with pipes to a passive vent to put a bit of atmosphere into the room, then melt a little oxycite at a time to get oxygen in the room. You don't need much more than 50 PSI to have enough to breathe. The tablet comes with a gas sensor board that can tell you when its safe to breathe without your suit. If you make a 1 frame hole in the floor and melt water ice in the room, water will collect in the hole, and you can put a vent with pipes down there to use it to run water to hydroponics trays. Room air pressure will be enough to pressure feed the water. Also, run the in game tutorials, they help a lot!

The interface feels like it was designed to make your life miserable. I like some level of realism in this type of game. But the 2 hand restriction, and just the number of steps to do even the most basic thing. "Move grids to your hands, place them, move welder to your hand, chose that hand, turn on the welder, weld the thing, turn off the welder, run back to base to swap grids for sheets, place the sheets, chose the welder, turn on the welder,..." it just wasn't fun at all. I want the fun and challenge to be in the building and engineering. Not on having a frustrating sequence of unintuitive button clicks and needless item interactions like needing the wire cutters in your hands to be able to splice wires.

and THAT is one of the major differences between Space Engineers and Stationeers.
@octavioferreira28464 жыл бұрын
As much as I like Stationeers, I totally agree with you. I much prefer the SE system with a welder to construct and a grinder to deconstruct. And I'm definitely not a fan of the multi-stage construction of stuff.
@YoutubeAccountName4 жыл бұрын
@@MistahBryan Well, another huge one is that in space engineer you actually make ships, and vehicles, and they are dynamic, and move about. In Stationers, you have a base, and there's one truck rover thing you can build, and that's it.
@Splitsie4 жыл бұрын
I don't disagree, for me Stationeers is a game to play when I want to mess around with some more complex systems as a little break from SE but it won't ever replace it (maybe it'd do more to replace it if we could build custom vehicles though)

Nope, I just hosted a game and invited my friend to it through steam. I've not had to do any troubleshooting so unfortunately don't know any tricks. Might be worth going to the stationeers subreddit as there could be people on there who can help :)

You may want to turn your suit temperature back up after you get power going. I remember seeing somewhere your hunger goes down faster in low temperatures, but that could just be my superstition.

The only thing thats better on the Moon than on Mars is solar efficiency. For new players id always recommend Mars because its easier with its little bit of atmosphere and higher gravity. It also looks alot friendlier

Not sure the game changed since then, but what I'm experiencing is that suit temp and pressure make little difference (even though I'm doing my first game on Europa), while the light consumes an insane amount of power. 🤔 Would be nice to be able to see the actual consumption rate in the game.
@Splitsie3 жыл бұрын
I've never done a test on if the lower temp used less power, but it seemed to and several reddit threads/wiki entries confirmed it to a level I was happy to mention it, though they've been tweaking the balance heavily in recent patches so it may well have changed
@leakyabstraction3 жыл бұрын
@@Splitsie yeah, it does make sense to assume, and I've also read it in multiple sources, I just didn't experience it that much in practice. Would be nice to be able to read the actual current consumption in the game.

Spltsie makes great content for Space Engineers. I am a fan. Sadly, this is a tutorial from someone who hasn't gotten as far in this game. Regular fans are going to love the content regardless. Others may find this self-serving, rather than advice from a seasoned player who has started the game many times over. Saddamo De Beers has more time in Stationeers, with coverage, solo and multiplayer streams spanning years Prior streamers with years of detailed, step by step content include Rhadamant and grayduster Here, that lack of experience doesn't start with an honest disclaimer at the beginning of the video The game tutorials do a fine job of basic mechanics. Sadly, Splitsie opted not to do a simple Let's Play of those tutorials It would have been more honest, and let him stay in his own lane.

so the better solar panel requires steel, and i have no idea how to make it xD I know in the manual it said it uses coal, and iron at a ration of 3 iron and 1 coal, and it said to use it in a furnace. I tried the arc furnace, but you can only put one ore in it, and idk how to use the other furnace

hey splitsie can you tell us which of the two games are better ? Space Engineers or Stationeers ? i like that both of them seems like you can weld structures from scratch and not just automatically pop them out of thin air like "Satisfactory" but some says space engineers is limited to having blocks whereas Stationeers can have wires etc. what is your opinion on the matter ?
@Splitsie3 жыл бұрын
They're similar games but on a different scale, stationeers is focused on smaller things and everything you build is a 'station' whereas Space Engineers allows you to go larger and build things that can move (rovers, ships etc) so for me it'll depend on whether I want to play something detail oriented or grander in scope
