In this video, Jerry Cole gives the guidelines that a person should consider when looking for a used table saw that would be appropriate in a woodworking shop. Topics covered include saw size and style, how to evaluate the condition of the saw before purchase, and other topics concerning things a "wannabee" woodworker should know before getting into the hobby.

I have the exact model of saw you restored and am using your guide for my own restoration. It's not quite as bad but needs a little tune up. Thank you for putting these together, I'm a subscriber now Jerry. Keep them coming!

Hmmmm, before purchasing any sort of "plans", check out Woody's site. Hyezmar's finally published his rather dated but solid plans. Cheers!

As with MOST KZbin videos; this one has much too much needless explanation; and not nearly enough hands on. You said in your video that you welcomed both "like" and "dislike". The following will be a test of that: You have great ideas. You are WELL versed in wood and mechanical intricacies. Little doubt about that. I KNOW that for sure. However, you spend FOREVER getting to the "meat". Don't feel bad. As I said, MOST "teachers" on You Tube do that. Some to the point of absolute agony "waiting" for them to "Cut to the Chase". In fact SOME never get to the Chase. Really! I am sure you have seen and heard this yourself. While you are not the worst, you NEED to consider this. The details should NOT precede the procedure. That should be the golden rule. IE: Go through the procedure with little explanation. THEN once wet get the IDEA, we can take some "detail" in a review. Also WAIT for questions in the "posts". A much better place to fill in what you may or may NOT have covered; as a result of the questions. Again, You are well versed in what you are doing. Few are better. I know, because I have watched you MANY times at woodworking shows for going on 40 yrs. I never miss going to your booth. I find it one of the highlights of my day at the shows. So please accept that I am sincere. Anyway, I imagine you are ready to remove this post. That I understand. Thanks for reading it anyway.

Pat, I won't remove your comment. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and I won't take away your opportunity to express yours. Please understand that I'm trying to reach people who don't know anything about woodworking, but want to get into it. Maybe they have an old "piece of junk" laying around that they might want to fix up because they don't have the money to go out and buy saw. If you watch the "Evaluating the Saw" clip, and when we post the "Disassembly", Rust Removal Using Electrolysis", "Surfacing the Top", and "Reassembly" clips when we post them, you will see more "hands on" than most people would be willing to do on a used saw. What I can tell you at this time is that we are getting ready to film the "Reassembly" clip, and when that one is done I will have a saw that looks better than it did new, and will also perform better than any new Contractor saw on the Market. (and I'd put money on that) so to speak. I do apologize for being "wordy", but I'm trying to teach "Newbies" the things that most experienced woodworkers like yourself already know. I hope you'll give us a chance to better. Jerry Cole
