So many “Intro to Fusion 360” videos start right in designing shapes without explaining the workspace. This is an essential first video. Thanks

Right! I haven't found a single "fusion for beginners" that is actually for beginners. They all assume you have a basic understanding of this program.

UI updates can throw people off as the older UI was slightly different. I had not used my version of 360 in a years time log back in and the interface is different. What really sucked is that I was just learning the program when I took a break to do other things. Now I feel as if I am somewhat starting over and I have grids where before I had blank drawing board.

Great job on explaining the workspace and the different options. Most Fusion 360 tutorials jump right into modeling without an explanation of the model space. Your SketchUp videos helped me get through my classes. Thank you very much.

Thanks for the good tutorials. I gave up on Fusion 360 several times over the past few years, but recently needed to get it learned and after watching numerous videos, including Autodesk's own tutorials which were ok but lacked explanations, finally found yours. You actually explain things in a sequence that matches actual workflow which is what I really needed. I am currently on number 4 and have watched these up to 4 times each to get it pounded in, sometimes Pause, Rewind, Play to see and hear things again. I find that watching your mouse/cursor closely really helps me to see what you actually doing because F360 has a way of challenging you to get the sequence of clicks just right in order to make things work properly. Thanks again.

Ok, so, I'm just starting out on Fusion 360. I've been watching other beginner tutorials and there's one that stood out as the best so far. I'll refrain from using their name. However, I still found myself a bit lost and confused. Until now. This, is hands down, the best Fusion 360 beginner tutorial I've found on KZbin. I will definitely have to watch this again on the big screen while I follow along on my laptop. This tutorial gives me hope for a better understanding of a program that I was beginning to think I'd never fully understand. Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge!

Hi Justin, I am so pleased that you are giving up your time to help beginners like me do something useful with F360. I am trying to work up a new layout for our kitchen starting with a partial floor plan. I am in my 70s, but your tutorials are very easy to follow and are helping me so much. One thing that puzzled me is when you said our drawings are best stored in Autodesk's Cloud rather than locally else there is some loss of functionality. Can you say what is lost, please?

I'd like to label parts and sides to make similar items easier to recognize. Something that would appear like a banner on a part or a surface. That would also make a viewer of my file more oriented to my notes. Is there a feature for this? For example I have to create a large horizontal air receiver which will have one end a bit lower than the other for a condensate drain. I'd like to label the high and the low ends. And when I'm rotating something with design characteristics that are not obvious from the outside view.
@TheFusionEssentials
@TheFusionEssentials 4 жыл бұрын
Hmmm - there is an option on the lower left hand side of the page to add comments and associate them with your items, but those notes don't really show up in your general view. You could also label your different bodies with different names, but I don't think you can do exactly what you're describing here. You could create a drawing with the drawing workspace and label your items with the tools contained in there.

Similar question: your workspace has the grid apparently extending to infinity on all sides. Mine has the grid only slightly larger than the sketch I started while following along. I'm not seeing any controls about that in the View and Grid options?

I keep watching this video and a few of your others until there is nothing you say that I don’t already know. I’m under the gun to produce a couple models and it’s been so frustrating watching other videos that either use older versions that have different screens/options while trying to follow tutorials when I’m lost on the screen.

Yeah, that's the trick with Fusion 360 - it kind of auto updates in the background and sometimes they just slip in a UI change that makes things look different. If you have questions about anything, let me know :)

Even the autodesk help refers to out of date screens. I need to design a cylinder with a taper about midway along where the ID transitions from one value to another. I'm hoping I can design in a smooth transition rather than a hard edge. When I saw you demonstrate the rotate option I realized I can focus on creating the inside contour first then rotate it, rather than trying to transition a cylinder ID. I also have someone building me a 1000 gallon air receiver tank. They asked for a CAD showing all of the ports. This way there is no misunderstanding what I want built.

The information is very useful BUT spinning the cursor around the screen is EXTREMELY distracting and confusing for those of us NOT familiar with the selection locations. After 5 minutes, I couldn't watch anymore; I got eye fatigue trying to follow the cursor and I gave up. Perhaps I can try again once I'm more familiar with the various tools/buttons. Thank you for your work, think I need something a little more rudimentary.

Beginners watching this are going to have problems following your instructions. You are speeding along like they already know how the steps to manipulate commands work. I am proficient in AutoCAD and Solidworks and can’t follow your steps. I am wondering how many times the reader has to rewind and play back each step in order to get it.

Honestly, I think he is the only one who DOES explain things properly. I have watched some of his videos 3 or 4 times to get all the nuances. I watch his mouse closely as it shows exactly what he is doing. And frequently shows goofs which he usually comments on. Pause, backup, and watch again is my normal way to get things completely.

One thing that You teachers do wrong all the time, is that You assume that every one of Your wiewers has the ability to read Your mind. That means, we are looking at the scetch, while Your mouse pointer is all over the place - without any chance to follow on what You're doing. You have to slow down the pace a little - and add some more info about where You are in the work space, at any given moment. This means - if You're talking about the grey button - second from the right, at the bottom of the screen - just say it! When You say "You just click on this button, to do this or that" - it doesn't help at all. And one more thing - You don't have to reiterate over and over and over again, abouy how awesome and simple the F360 is. Those were the very reasons we're ALL here now. Right?

What I learned to and it may help you is to: 1. Watch the video in it's entirely a few times. Something new tends to be intimidating at times. 2. I look at the things he points out. From menus, different drop downs, etc. 3. Just randomly do something just to see what certain options are. 4. Once I get familiar with all that, then I follow what their doing.
