I liked the little table idea. We will have some to casterate soon. Our pig had her piglets yesterday. I have learned a lot by watching yalls videos.

Do them before 2 weeks. It's easier! Smaller cut and the blood vessel isn't attached to the cord yet so less blood. We cut at 5 wks and it was difficult

Chuck this is one that I haven’t watched yet. I was watching on my phone and got in trouble by my wife! She said I’m the one that will be doing it!! Lol!! Good stuff. Won’t be long and we will be cutting our first ones.

Its really easy to do and after 3 or 4 you get pretty quick at doing it. Just use a very sharp blade!

Once again you found a topic most KZbinrs don't address...weaning pen setup. Thanks! Tim @ Cliffside Acres
@SheratonParkFarms4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Tim. We learned a few lessons on that pen and hope to do it better next time.

I've watched this one AT LEAST 10 times.... time to castrate and we're super nervous! LOL

Really appreciate your videos. I’ve been working with Hereford pigs near Walnut Cove, NC. I wish I had come across your videos earlier-could have saved a good bit of time, frustration, and money.

Fixin to breed my first Berkshire gilt...she's a looker!!! Got to butcher out her brother first. We did her bigger barrow bro and man is he tasty! Best bacon EVER. Now it's time for Mr. Hock to go in the freezer and begin to dream of mine and Sassy's first litter. I can't wait and seeing as she's already cycling at about 10 months old, I think she's gonna be ready too! Hoping she makes a great mama.

From 10:47 please try with surgical scissors. Surgical scissors still represent an indispensable tool for any surgical discipline. Using scissors is extremely easy, with the benefits being not only excellent but manifold and almost unlimited. In fact, there is hardly any better universal alternative when it comes to transacting or dissecting tissue or cutting sutures, or any other kind of auxiliary materials. Thanks. All the best from Croatia, EU.

Good afternoon just had my gilt AI she should farrow 1st week of September so I have 2 questions. 1. at what age do yall separate from mom?, 2. What age did yall castrate. Thanks

As I was watching you plow down the field, was thinking, is hay bailing and straw the same , like if you have hay for food does it turn into straw if sitting to long ? I could look it up but....

Do they walk around sad for a while? Mine seem so sad tonight.

My wife just said ...why is chuck with the sheriff department always on calls with hogs and cattle ..and how come hes helping them all the time ...I was confused but then realized at the beginning while I'm watching she was assuming you were saying with the sheriff dept
@SheratonParkFarms4 жыл бұрын
Someone asked me the same question early on when I started making youtube videos. They thought I was saying "sheriff's" instead of Sheraton. I guess its my accent. Thanks so much for watching.😂

have you found that solar electric works at all or is it too weak?
@FreeAmerican-mm2my11 ай бұрын
Hay is for animal feed. Straw is a by product of wheat, rye or barley.

What was the PTO attachment you used at 5:30ish?
@roymcelwee93344 жыл бұрын
How often do you switch out to a new blade. Or will one blade do all the boys
@SheratonParkFarms4 жыл бұрын
about every 6-7 pigs. They stay pretty sharp.
@roymcelwee93344 жыл бұрын
@@SheratonParkFarms I appreciate it. We have a breeding pair now. We have done feeder pigs the last three years, just for our family and a couple of friends but spring 2021 will be our first piglets. So I have been trying to get familiar with weaning, and castrating
@BJSmith-ll3uw3 жыл бұрын
It depends. The older the pigs, the tougher the skin gets. That blade looked dull judging by the repeated cutting motions. If in doubt, get a new blade. They are cheap. That size of pigs usually dull the blade in 2 pigs in my experience. That may vary with brand of too.
@ThirdLawPair4 жыл бұрын
Why castrate after weaning rather than in thier first week after farrowing?
@SheratonParkFarms4 жыл бұрын
That is just when we elect to do it. There certainly isn't anything wrong with doing it younger. The sows can be a little problematic but that's true anytime. Thanks for watching.

What type of mower were ya using partner? Looked almost like a rototiller.
@SheratonParkFarms3 жыл бұрын
It was a flail mower.

When is the best age to castrate piglets
@katcampbell2151 Жыл бұрын
4days to 14 days old. Smaller testicles, less blood, and less struggle with size. Older piglets are harder to hold.
@toddcaskey99844 жыл бұрын
Good job , and atleast you don’t have to try & separate them later. Oh yea scratch that , ya just castrated them lol
@SheratonParkFarms4 жыл бұрын
Exactly. Lots of reasons to castrate and keeping them separate is a big one.

Honestly, my opinion is that this is too cruel, I plan on raising pigs too but I’d rather use the injection than physical castration.
@asjaosaline59873 жыл бұрын
This is not cruel and as you are not farmer or small farmer you learn that chemical castration is not aconomical and causes also behavioral problems for pigs. Like having a itch you cant scrath and it causes agression.
@heathert54552 жыл бұрын
I don't think that chemical castration would work. You could hire a big animal vet to do it or maybe befriend another farmer who could do it for you.
