I was about ready to give up on finding an app to use for designing projects around the house. Everyone wants to charge you exuberant amounts of money for apps now. Just to try something out. 7 day’s isn’t necessarily enough time to learn something and evaluate it. I was ready to go back to my graph paper, ruler and mechanical pencils. But you showed in 12 minutes exactly what I wanted to know. On top of that you have some expertise that I can learn from.

@iPadForArchitects2 жыл бұрын
Funny you should ask. I am making such a video as we speak. In meantime since you asked, get the 2d plan all ready in your iCloud Drive, then once you have the SketchUp app opened, go to the three dots at the bottom of the left toolbar and at the top right of the pop-up menu select the add image icon then choose the “add image as object” option, then navigate to your files and select the plan you put there. Now tap the tip of the pencil to the origin and with one smooth gesture pull out and away from the origin, then raise your pencil when the plan is roughly big enough. After that you can scale the plan up by choosing the tape measure tool, tapping on the left side of a known dimension , then pulling it across to the right side of that known dimension. Now tap in the length dialog box and enter your desired length. When sketchup asks you if you would like to change the scale of your entire model say yes, and you are on your way!

Do you know of a ipad app that exports to revit and or autocad?
@iPadForArchitects Жыл бұрын
Sadly, I do not, but I think the iPad is best suited to concept design where you can stay loose and mostly freehand, helping you access parts of your imagination that you can't reach under the restricted conditions of "designing" with a keyboard and mouse. I don't know about you but I always get tight when I try to design in Sketchup. I guess I see iPad as more of a sketchbook for the 21st century, combining the familiarity of pencil with the power of Photoshop, but stopping short of setting actual dimensions that could open up in CAD. Of course you can always export a 2D jpeg and start drawing over that in CAD

So if i want a baseplate, and i created a component for it, and then on plan, i sketch the outline of a square with 4 circles internally, could sketchup then load a baseplate...? My background is structural engineering and quick sketching of beams, columns, retaining walls etc would help massively.

For typical baseplates.... I may use maybe 6 / 7 versions that will cover most column requirements. Would you store all 7 in a single file... Or have 7 Seperate files? It's the same for retaining walls... I have designed in cad 8 versions of a retaining wall (different heights)... But would rather a single source. I don't want to overly depend on the warehouse... This was great...Do you know if you can upload models from the 3d Warehouse? I haven't been able to find any info about that, Thanks!
@iPadForArchitects2 жыл бұрын
As a matter of fact you can! It's the little icon at the top of the left hand tool strip (at least it is on my version haha). I've had it crash a couple of times when trying to upload poly-intense models, but I know they're working on it. Let me know if that works for you. Also!...I'd love to know any and all issues folks are having problems with. This is a great one I appreciate. Anything else?
@dawngepfert26362 жыл бұрын
@@iPadForArchitects That works! I need to play with this and get used to using a pencil with SketchUp! Mind blown with all that can be done on the ipad... Especially that auto shape tool...crazy!

@@iPadForArchitects Ok...another question or two...Have you found the scale tool? Also, is there a way to use parallel projection for working in 2d (floor plan elevations)? Thanks!

@@dawngepfert2636 re: 1) Tap the 3 dots at the bottom of the left hand tool bar, and you'll see all the old familiar gang. Then Tap the dimensions icon and you're off to the races. (This is one of my next videos for sure) re: dimensioning your designs in real time as you draw, this takes some attention to detail and may restrict one's "Spirit Wolf" a little (for reference, see: Apple TV series WeCrashed), but if you're up for it, in "Model Info" settings tab, you can set precision and length snapping when you want to "watch" the dimension change in real time in the little floating dimensions box as you draw a line. Does that answer your question?

Hi. could you please advise me? I have a problem with Apple pencil2, when I want to use, for example, the LiNE icon in SketchUp, it makes lines approximately 2 centimeters from the real place where I draw with the pen. can you advise me how to rebuild it? Thank you for your response.
