This time out, I'm getting my Impala ready for winter. I will be showing you how to properly jack up your W-Body with a hydraulic floor jack WITHOUT crushing your pinch welds. I will also be installing a new set of Bridgestone Blizzak WS90 winter tires on a brand new set of 17" steel wheels. I will tell you WHY you shouldn't minus size from 18's down to 16's. I then describe my experience with TireRack's moblie installation company ASAP Tire.

I took your suggestion and watched the video at 1.5 speed. I still laughed at some of your ramblings and the video clips you included. I also yelled at your dog to stop licking the cars. 😂 I like the wheel covers.

Thanks! I bet I sounded funny at that 1.5 speed, too!! 🤣

I don't use winter tires, but I did purchase new BFGoodrich G-Force Comp-2 A/S+ tires from Costco in late September. That was when I learned of directional tires. I was checking the manufacture dates and didn't understand why two of the tires were mounted inwards, so I asked. Earlier this month I checked my fluids, topped off the coolant and washer fluid, and got my oil changed to a synthetic blend. I also checked the tire pressures since the temp dropped, and sure enough, they needed to be inflated. I was shopping at a bargain discount store and saw a snow shield windshield cover; I purchased one since I park outdoors. Don't know how well it'll work, but it did not cost much. Those are my winter preps.

Those snow shields work pretty well, we bought one for our son and he got some good use out of it. Beats having to scrape your windshield!!

From what I saw on the video, I see you're well prepared for winter. You did an excellent job on the winter wheel and tire combination. We just had snow landed on parts of Metro Vancouver and some drivers yesterday were not prepared for that sudden snowfall.

I hear ya there, we just received 8" on Tuesday and I've encountered several unprepared drivers even 2 days later!!

Those stupid acorn stock lug nuts where the caps would fall off were one of the first thing I replaced on my 13 LTZ. I went with just chrome 1 piece acorn lug nuts. Had those on now since then. I put Pirelli P Zero's on mine and I am very happy with them. Of course in SoCal we don't do the summer/winter tire thing. Just all seasons is all we need. Your new setup looks good.

My dad had a 14 LT 10th gen with the 18" steel wheels and hubcaps, and they rattled something fierce since those stupid things don't hold them on really tight near the edge. I ended up buying him a set of brand new old-stock alloy wheels, and naturally after I spent a grand getting them all mounted up for him the car got flooded in hurricane Ian a month ago and totaled. Dang.

Thanks! That was a good call getting rid of the stock lug nuts.

@Proxy D'oh! Too bad they didn't let him pull those wheels off and put the old ones back on before the insurance co. took it away.

@@CertifiedShadetree Yeah the tops had fallen off a couple of them so they looked lame like cheap old lugs nuts I had on my old Datsun Truck.

I ran Blizzaks on a set of 18" Camaro steelies for a couple of years on my Malibu and loved the confidence in the snow, but the new car this year won't fit them since it has 20" wheels and brembo brakes (Caddy XTS VSport). I can only go down to 19" at the smallest so I took a chance on Michelins new Crossclimate 2s. They are severe snow rated and based on a winter tire compound. They probably wouldn't feel good on a sports car given the soft rubber and lack of stiff sidewalls but for a big boat like this thing they're fantastic. It snowed a little the other day and they were able to hold traction really well even mashing it off of a light which is impressive considering the car makes around 500ft-lbs right now with some mods. They seem to be a really good choice for AWD cars, and although I absolutely hate snow and winter I'm looking forward to a good storm so I can go thrash these things and see what the limits are.

Those must be some serious mods, doesn't that LFY only put out 369-ish Lb/Ft stock? I was looking at used non-V Sport XTSs and it's surprising how little they're selling for. Honestly for what you get for the money, I'd rather buy an XTS than a 10th Gen Impala!!

@@CertifiedShadetree Yes but its only because of the torque management to save the poor 6T80 - the motor is identical to the 430/430 unit in the rwd CTS. Once you get it a good 93 tune it makes ~410hp/430tq at the wheels and these cars have a really large drivetrain loss compared to an SHO which is a similar type of car. As for the Impala, I mean they're the same car just one is more fancy. Personally I like the styling of the 10th gen Impala more than the XTS, its just a good looking car. But I got a hell of a deal on this one, they gave me 13k trade in on my 120k mile Malibu so I went home with this thing for under 8 grand.
@CertifiedShadetree
@CertifiedShadetree Жыл бұрын
Aah, that makes complete sense. GM didn't want to make the same mistake they made with the LS4/4T65 combo in the FWD Impala SS!! Yeah, that's a hell of a deal! Plus it's essentially an Impala under the skin, so you'll be able to at least get replacement chassis parts cheap..
@arc00ta
@arc00ta Жыл бұрын
@@CertifiedShadetree Yeah the 4T65 suffered a lot in the W-Bodies between the 3800 supercharged motors and the FWD V8s. I think the only reason the 6T70/75/80 work better is because they were co-designed with Ford.

That and they weren't based on a transmission designed during the Carter administration to sit behind a 90hp Iron Duke!! 🤣

Hey shade, so those piece of frame will support the weight of the car, I only have a floor Jack and Jack stands, could I use the pinch points and use Jack stands there to hold the rear of the car? I’m planning on changing my rotors and pads and to save time lift the rear all at once to just run through rear brakes. There isn’t much detailed info on suspending these cars. Especially tenth Gen impalas like mine. Could you do a video on where to place stands while lifting car on it’s dedicated lift points. I don’t know where on the sub frame to place my stands.
