It's a little known fact that if you want improved braking on your 9th Gen Impala (or any 2nd and 3rd Gen W-Body, really) there's an easy and reasonably priced upgrade that's readily available using stock GM parts.
The 2012 through 2016 9G Impala 9C1 Police and 9C3 Detective models came standard with larger brake rotors on the front of the car than the civilian models. These brake parts will easily bolt up to the knuckles of any 2G and 3G W-Body.
The parts that are required are the 9C1-specific rotors, calipers and caliper mounting brackets. The 9C1 rotors are 323 MM versus the stock 303 MM. The caliper brackets are elongated to compensate for the larger rotors, however your stock calipers will not mount to them, so you will have to swap to the 9C1 calipers as well. Civilian brake pads will fit these calipers. Also it's VERY IMPORTANT to note that you will no longer be able to fit 16" wheels to your car after you install the upgraded calipers and rotors, as the relocated calipers will not clear 16s.
As I said, these parts are readily available. I purchased everything from RockAuto.com. Since I cannot link directly to parts at RockAuto, these are the part numbers you'll need:
Raybestos Street Performance coated rotor (Front - 2 Required) - 580387
Cardone Gray Powdercoated Front Left Caliper & Bracket - 18P5024
Cardone Gray Powdercoated Front Right Caliper & Bracket - 18P5025
Akebono ProACT Ultra Premium Ceramic Front Brake Pads - ACT1159
Now if you want to go the extra mile like I did, these are the part numbers for the brake hoses, and the rear pads and rotors:
AC Delco Professional Brake Hoses :
Rear Right - 18J4876
Rear Left - 18J4877
Front Right - 18J4914
Front Left - 18J4915
Raybestos Street Performance coated rotor (Rear - 2 Required) - 581033
Akebono ProACT Ultra Premium Ceramic Rear Brake Pads - ACT999
You could also poke around the RockAuto catalog and find less expensive options for the rotors, calipers, and brake pads. I splurged and went with the "coated" parts, as I live in the rust belt and road salt wreaks havoc on brake parts.

At 9:35, this tool is only used for the 2011 thru 2016 9th Gen models which have a ratcheting caliper-style parking brake. 2000 thru 2010 8th & 9th Gen models have a "drum-in-hat" style rear parking brake and do not require this tool.

@@aaaaii6511 Never heard of it. I do have a GOLD PLUG drain plug installed. Nothing really spectacular about it, just has a magnet on the end of it..

I have a 2012 impala with only 75000 mi. I've had it 11 years. Still runs perfect. I enjoy watching you work on the impalas. Helps me keep mine going.

Woohoo!! I'm only 4 minutes in and I ended up getting a shoutout!! Thanks man!! I can't wait to finish watching this since next time I do brakes, I may do this very upgrade. I had an issue with pulsating as well and it turned out to be crappy Carquest that was the issue. I replaced the rotor and pads and I have no problem. Been running the Raybestos and Akebono pads for a number of years now and it's still perfect.

When I replaced my brakes with those Powerstop Pads and rotors. I went with those drilled and slotted rotors and they were crap! They warped in about 6 months of daily driving. So I went with the same Raybestos Rotors with the wavy slots in it and the Akebono pads and I have no problem with those. Yeah those Akebono pads my son and i hae used on several vehicles and have loved them. I didn't do the Police upgrade though. I also went with those KYB Quickstruts and love them. I also use Ryobi for everything. I love that I can use the same batteries. I even have the Ryobi tire inflater.

You really can't beat Ryobi's quality per price-point. You can get many years out of their tools, but won't go broke when you ultimately have to replace them. I've never tried Powerstop products, so I would say that's a good recommendation to avoid!! KYB's really are the only way to go when replacing struts, IMHO. With every other brand being manufactured in China, KYB's are made in Germany.

I have a factory 9C1. You'll probably need 17"s or higher for this FYI, so if you have an LS trim with 16"s be ready

Might need to take the pads out and squirt a little "Disc Brake Quiet" on the back sides of them.
