Glad you mentioned not using the width guide on the brannock. All my life I assumed I was a standard D. D seems to fit fine. My foot is 4 1/4" which all the charts i find online call that a D. But on a brannock i'm dead in the middle of B/C. That would be a 1/2" smaller from those same charts. But you didn't provide detail on how you do determine shoe width.??

I thought you were supposed to wear fitted socks when using these, since you wear socks 99% of the time when you wear shoes.

Go into your local shoe shore/retail shoe department and ask them if they have a Brannock Device. Chances are, no one will be able to give you the right answer. And then there's the correct use of the device - which is even funnier. One would think that the most basic criteria for working in such a place would be to be familiar with the proper use of one; however, it seems that most employees prefer to keep going back and forth, bringing out box, after box, after box, hoping the customer will eventually find the right size.

You said that's a good starting point. Is there ever a time you should go 1/2 size bigger or smaller than what you measured yourself at?
