Rory, you are making the right call on which way to steer with no confusion between any of the people involved in the recovery. I live in Australia where we drive on the left (proper) side of the road, and we let you guys in America drive on the other side, but that is totally immaterial to what you are doing. In the same way port and starboard are also totally irrelevant in off road recovery. Drivers side = the side that the driver is sitting. Passenger = the side that any passenger would be sitting. Left and right calls only serve to allow for confusion to happen. Never apologise for using the terms that you are comfortable with. I could hop into one of your rescued vehicles after spending nearly 60 years with the steering wheel on the right side of a vehicle and I would understand immediately exactly what you wanted me to do. Stick to doing exactly what you are doing already.

As someone who usually has to chain up to get into the cabin, I'd love to see a video on how to get chains to fit properly. I chain all 4 wheels and use 2 bungees per tire. I cut off the extra chain on each side. 1st link on the inside, usually 2nd link on the outside. Even though I've done it dozens of times, I get WHACK, WHACK, WACK... half way up, in the deep stuff.
@elmerexpress
@elmerexpress 2 жыл бұрын
@@frankhage1734 Halfway up, huh? That means you do part one VERY well. Retightening (part two) is part of the game. And always keep the inner chain as short as possible and w/o loose ends. All adjusting on the outside (you won't get fully as wet then). How tight to keep it? If you hear the " krrtsh-krrtsh-krrtsh" sound, meaning the chain is larger than the tire - then they are fit too loose. When you do this correctly the chains sound even, and you won't need the bungees. I never needed them myself and never saw anyone using them. Just watch Rory's front wheels. No slack at all - just fully tight. That meant he could use them more roughly and also drive faster.

Wow I’m always impressed with the wrecker, what a beast! And, of course, Rory’s excellent driving helps a lot. Love this channel.

The driver / passenger spotting is always a good option. You just have to adjust to what side the driver is sitting on. It doesn’t matter what direction you are looking. And the driver and spotter are on the same page.

Great episode. The best so far. Great winch knowledge and skills used on this one. Very entertaining and informative I’m in Australia 🇦🇺 and it doesn’t bother me to hear you say driver /passenger. Don’t have to be real smart to know what you mean. Great vid

Always fun watching the snow recoveries down south. They gate everything off up here in the Vernal area in the winter so no really gets stuck.
