Trail Maintenance Turns Into a Recovery

Went out to the Gold Bar Waterfall to do some maintenance and repair the easier route. Right as we pulled up to the Waterfall I lost steering in the wrecker. The hydraulic ram failed internally. As we were heading out there we got a call for a recovery further up the trail then where the maintenance was. Luckily the people were in town so they picked up a ram and brought it out to us so we could repair the wrecker and go on to the recovery. This was an unfortunate accident that resulted in the vehicle being in a bad spot we had to go off trail to get to. We contacted the BLM to get authorization to access it. The gentleman in the vehicle was injured but had been released from the hospital, alcohol wasn't suspected, it was just an unfortunate series of mistakes that led to an accident. Please be safe out there.

I hope you'll continue your recovery and crawling videos Trail Matter is really something.

HEYYY.. Nice to see you over here Ivan. I love this truck. lol. He has a few videos where he does a "front dig' -- It's a maneuver where you disengage the rear axle in the transfer case (it's a twin stick np205 transfer case I believe); where you are only running the front axle, and you hold the rear E-brakes, and the thing will just slide in a circle like it's on a merry-go-round. He does it a little at 23:20 .. I've learned a LOT by watching these guys.

Dude it's like watching another Master class lecture on trail recovery. Watching the people around you while you're working is interesting. Often they are long time wheelers from big name shops. Or other KZbin personalities of standing. Some of the folks who have been there, done it, got the t-shirt. But you can watch them and see how they recognize and respect what you're doing. When you have the attention and respect of folks like that it speaks volumes as to your experience and judgment. Its cool to watch. I've learned enough to know when I'm around someone working like you its best to stay outta your way and do whatever it is you ask me to. If I do that I'll undoubtedly learn something.

People should like and subscribe just to educate themselves on what to do and especially what not to do on the trails in Moab, and especially things they can prepare themselves for that may eventually break while hitting the trails! Great videos, Rory! It is amazing where you recovered this one from, and I think it's awesome that you and some of the guys were out there trying to make an easier path on the water falls. I can't remember the one you recovered from there last time, but I remember you said you were going to come back and fix some of the rocks that had gotten knocked around that you had anchored before. I remember you pointing out an eyebolt you had put on the biggest rock. I thought you all done a great job of fixing that!

I am amazed at that recovery! Your skills have outdone themselves on this one! You did more with a damn tow truck that most people could do with a fleet of recovery vehicles. Way to go, you earned that paycheck!
