I agree but a bit more food for thought. It costs Matt time and money to make it all the way there. No way he's not going to try even if there is bad attitude from the customer. Though I'm sure Mat has a point where you can't pay him enough to do something. Still money aside, I feel Matt is a "better man" and would help anyone even if it was to give the man his classic work shirt off his back. He knows people are what is important. You don't get friends like he has with out knowing that. You see it all the time with his interactions with Ed, Lizy, his kids and well practically everyone who's worked with or for him.

The Gambler 500 was started in Oregon by a group of guys whose lives changed from being "best friends who always hung out and did everything together" to "all having started their own families and never getting to see eachother" so they all got their own $500 car and drove 500 offroad miles across Oregon tackling some pretty rough terrain.

I understand how easy it is to judge a situation from afar, but it breaks my heart to read these hurtful and off-based comments about Danny. I had the pleasure of meeting him during a Gambler 500/Sons of Smokey cleanup recently. He is beloved in the community and notorious for going out of his way to help folks on and off the trails. He is an incredible mechanic, and not afraid to send it. I trailed behind him as he took this manual mustang 2wd OPEN DIFF through Hells Revenge in Moab- no problem. You can see it on the gambler page, it was wild to witness! From what I’ve heard he was mid-repair when someone ELSE called Matt. All I see here is a guy communicating why certain methods would or would not work based on what he knows having built the car himself. And look at what a great solution they came up with because of it!

Only if the frame is exposed. Some cars/trucks that "lifting point" could give or now be bent. Still, I love it when Matt and crew shows up and people are actually happy to see them roll in. Coilovers were removed to prevent damage to them, as someone indicated the replacement cost per coilover is approximately equal to the value of the entire car unmodified. Prior to Matt's arrival the intention was to place the rear of the Mustang onto the Van Flatbed and tow it out that way. In the shuffle of preparing for the mustang to be towed out the coil overs were placed in another vehicle to be returned to camp. That vehicle left a couple minutes before Matt arrived. Danny (the customer) does have a strange demeanor but a heart of gold. The video doesn't show all the joking around and humor. That mustang build was the culmination of years of work and trial and error, damaging it by being incautious would be heartbreaking. The bingo card was part of the event, helping a broken down gambler was one of the spots on the card that's why I insisted it be given to Matt. My 2¢. Matt, Take a look at the US Army Buffalo MRAP fenders. For the heavy wrecker, something like the ones on the Buffalo might be a good solution. So the mustang owner might have been a bit rough on the video, but I'm absolutely confident he is exhausted, possibly hung over, and spent probably the last 15+ hours either bouncing around in that rig or trying to fix it. Plus. Although he was negative, it was for good intentions. He didn't want the rig to fall off or become another problem halfway off the trail. I know Danny, he's a great guy. These Utah gamblers are an amazing group and helped me when I was in need when I went on one of their events a year or so ago.

Hey Matt, You could use a makeshift platform that attaches to the center hookup of the wrecker and allows the lines coming off the boom to connect to it for lift. This will give you the ability to get the platform under the vehicle and lift it without damaging the vehicle, it will also allow the platform to pivot on the various angles that a trail can subject the towed vehicle to. That or a full off road trailer that you can load a vehicle onto and secure that has wheels all the way at the back so as to prevent any scraping with maybe 40 inch wheels on the trailer.

Great video and professionalism. An idea for the mud. You might have thought of this already, but you could possibly mount some rubberized / plastic fenders over your tires on the axel so the turn with the wheel. Check out the front end of the John Deere 4455 model tractor from the 90's for an example. Those work great working out in the farm fields all day. Thanks for all your videos, it's fun watching the rescues and vehicle builds.

Matt had always loved off-roading, but he knew that it could be a dangerous activity. That's why he had invested in a bright yellow off-road recovery truck. It was his pride and joy, and he took great care to keep it in tip-top condition. One day, Matt and his friends decided to go on a particularly challenging off-road adventure. They were determined to conquer the muddy terrain and reach the top of a nearby hill. Matt was leading the way in his trusty yellow truck, and everything was going smoothly until one of his friends got stuck in the mud. Matt quickly sprang into action. He maneuvered his truck around the muddy terrain until he was in a position to help his friend. With his winch and tow straps, he was able to pull his friend's truck out of the mud and back onto solid ground. The rest of the group cheered as Matt's yellow truck proved its worth once again. They continued on their adventure, tackling steep hills and navigating through thick mud. Matt's truck proved to be up to the task every time, effortlessly pulling his friends out of tight spots and keeping everyone safe. As the sun began to set, and the group made their way back to civilization, they all agreed that it had been an amazing day. They were tired and covered in mud, but they were happy and exhilarated. And Matt's yellow truck had played a crucial role in making it all possible. Matt knew that he had made the right choice in investing in such a reliable and capable off-road recovery truck. He couldn't wait to take it out again and see where it would take him next.

Build a gambler 500 car by the original rules. Can not put more than $500 into a gambler rig and it has to make 500 miles. That was original rules. I was able to do it. 85 Caprice station wagon didn't have one straight panel on it. Got it for free homemade lift in it it made 496 miles I decided to climb over a rocky area and punched a hole through my oil pan but I had a blast we're going to be building a new one 1980 LTD Crown Vic 4 door got the car for 150 the lift dirt cheap homemade that is the spirit of the Gambler 500.
