It must feel really good to have that dead tree removed. A couple of years ago I bought a reciprocating saw to cut down small trees. It's so much easier and faster than sawing by hand. I knew I'd never be able to handle a real chain saw.

Well done! Chain saws make me terribly nervous. Try and see how you like it with just the stone mulch - you might decide against building a platform, which can limit how you place your furniture and create tripping hazards. I like the sound of stone/gravel under my feet - it reminds me of French parks.

Sophia, I bought a battery powered sawzall or reciprocating saw years ago. It came with blades for cutting branches I use it all the time when doing my yard work. I cut large roots and small branches with it. It’s a handy tool for a gardener
@AZHITW5 ай бұрын
I came to say the same thing, I used a hand saw for years and when my husband passed away, I decide to try his reciprocating saw and it made pruning so much easier. I'm 75 so anything to make yard work easier. Edit: No sawing motion required with a chainsaw.

I hear ya about no strength in the arms. I was cutting the grass and backed up. I tripped on a large tree root and fell back. I just had no strength to get up, i rolled onto tummy...Zero strength. I live next to a busy intersection, cars, people drove by. Nobody stopped to help. I was terrified I'd end up sleeping there...i prayed and thankfully I was able to get up. I'm cut and bruised...shee it's hard to be over sixty and alone😅

Well done Sophia and Scott on taking that old tree down. The garden looks so much better without those dead branches diffusing the light. Now you will be able to see the bright blue skies and the all birds flying. It will make a cute little seating area too. Are you going to put a few little pavers down to stand the table and chairs on, or a bit of gravel until you make the deck?

With all of your vegetables and plants, I am surprised you haven't made a compost tea setup! It is cheap to make and basically free fertiliser if you want to use solar. Well worth doing, it almost TRIPLED my vegetables last year!! There are tons of videos on KZbin. I also made my own bone fertiliser, but that's more work than you probably have time for, lol.
