I think everyone needs to work on a farm or other labor-intensive job during a summer or 2 during their teen years; it can have such a positive impact on one's life in so many ways. Your daughter is so sweet. Whenever I had to go out without the kids people would ask how I got my husband to ‘babysit’. Never could figure out how you ‘babysit’ your own kids- I always thought it was just being a parent. Oh well nice for Cally that she got to go to work with daddy today.

I feel the same way! One of the things my husband and I agreed on when we found out I was pregnant, was that he's never "babysitting" his own kid. We both work, it's nonsense that it's seen as a babysitting gig when it's dad, but totally normal and expected when it's mom

You pump for water when watering the fields, but do you have well water for the greenhouses? Also how long of a dripline can you actually run before you no longer get water coming out the far end? Every time I see you bending over to work my back screams at me. I blew out my back when I was 19 and it has only gotten worse. If not for that I would have loved the life you and your family has set up. I grew up on a small farm... chicken, pigs, rabbits, goats, cucumbers, beans, peas, tomatoes, beats, rhubarb, green peppers... We never had luck with corn, onions, potatoes, cabbage, or lettuce. We canned a lot too. My mother never liked spinach, broccoli, or anything spicy so no hot peppers of any kind. We even had a cow and a horse at one point. I hated it as a kid, but as an adult I miss it.

Is your daughter walking yet. My granddaughter turned 1 June 18 so they are likely very similar in age. She was an early walker at 10 weeks like her mother. The only word she says REALLY good is NO... and she shakes her head too. She barely say mama or dada. She runs and climbs on everything. She understands a lot of words, like knowing several of her toys and people by name and things like her cup. Like her mother I think she will be a later talker, but with how well she says and understands NO I'm not sure. Unlike my mother who had 6 kids, 14 grand kids, and 8 great grandkids already with 2 more on the way... I have only 3 kids and at the rate they are going only my oldest is going to get married and have kids... and they are only planning on 2. I guess I will just have to spoil the few I have even more... :P

Probably the same thing. I knew a vegetable farmer in Quebec that had five daughters and no sons, and they grew over 1,000 Acres of vegetables on their farm. Of course it wasn't all family-run on their farm, they hired lots and lots of employees. Those sisters could drive anything, and outwork just about any man I know LOL!

@@dugel3 Yea, I know! That is some crap when they think a woman can't do it. You are a Dad. You don't babysit. She is yours. Nice to see your crops all thriving. I'm thinking about using some of that drip line myself. It might do well in my little poly tunnels. The Mennonite store near me seems to be using all the same suppliers you use, and they have that line. It is one thing I haven't tried yet.

We had a big Y strainer with dump valve on the pump to catch and quickly flush the big stuff out of the ditch water. Awesome to see it all irrigating evenly. Thanks!
