Great series! Cool to watch you go through everything and get it back in good shape. I need to change the Bevel Gear fluid in her XC90 soon, so thanks for posting your video.

Thank you, I'm glad it was helpful! It's not too bad of a job with the fluid pump fortunately.

Oh man. You got nailed by that Haldex fluid! We've all been there though!

I did a similar service on a 2005 s60 2.5t awd. I also added oil saver after the engine flush.

I'll watch out for splattering Haldex fluid! Will await changing of rear hubs & brakes. Thanks.

Hi there. Love your videos. I have a XC90 T6 from 2004 myself. I was a bit curios about the front and rear dif fluid change. I cannot se it anywhere in in the service manual. How often does it actually require service and what are the symptoms of neglected service? Never done it before, though I've worked alot on P2 volvos in the past. Cheers from Gothenburg Sweden.

in the manual the rear differential is labeled as Final Drive, and the front differential is labeled as Bevel Gear. I haven't been able to find any service intervals for those fluids either. The only related thing I see is that the bevel gear is supposed to be visually inspected every 15,000 miles starting at 90,000 mi. I'm not sure what symptoms would suggest neglected service, though if you hear any unusual noise from the differentials I recommend checking the fluid for shiny particulates if you drain them.

Hi do you know if gen 2 and gen 3 haldex have the same fluid change procedures?

Have watched all of your XC90 videos as I also have one. Would you mind telling me where you found a torque guide? I am replacing the thermostat housing and want to make sure I torque the bolts correctly. Thank you!

Thank you for watching! For torque specs I recommend checking the forums, but if you can get access to the factory service manual that's the best option. Many torque specs on the XC90 are based on the bolt's dimensions (M5, M6, etc.) unless specified otherwise. This post may have what you need, but I would try to confirm from a second source too: volvoforums.com/forum/volvo-xc90-9/torque-specs-82961/

If you ever want ideas of things to "fix" on your Volvo, let me know. I've got a 2004 2.5T and I'd be happy to give you some ideas. 🙂

Thanks! I still have a fair number of projects on it coming up on it. How is your 2004? Do you work on it yourself?

Hi Bert, I don't have a phone system in my car, but some quick research suggests it could be the emergency battery in the phone system (www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=62670). Unfortunately without a scan of the error code I can't know for sure.
