Re changing the auto gearbox fluid. You MUST use a good (ideally Volvo Vida) computer to go into the TCM and reset the fluid counter (so the car knows it's got new fluid as over time the gearbox compensates for aging fluid). Also, while in the TCM, reset learnt adaptions. This also helps the gearbox relearn how to operate on new fluid.

So I’ll be going through and checking some of these things that you’ve mentioned such as fuse 23, the DEM, AOC, and control module. Thank you as always for the incredibly informative videos! This is a very informative video overall like it, my issue is I don’t believe changing trans oils after 150k (when it has never had one) is wise I’m running 280k never had a trams oil change hate it but I wouldn’t risk it as data and transmission specialist don’t advise that from the days I gathered. I’d love to see electronic malfunctions on P2 might not be that popular but one to be informative since these vehicles are highly computerized. My radio lights won’t work and I’d like to know how this system works and how it’s all wired it’s funky how the rear view mirror houses the alarm module and how they connected all together. Just a thought.

My 2005 XC70 (210k miles) has the same problem. No radio lights after the battery was reconnected (transmission selector would not go into P, so could not turn off the ignition completely which drained the battery). I have the same issue. Alarm battery needs to be replaced and so the sunroof will not open. 😕

Do you need to reprogram the shifting after changing the valve body?
@xanderchettinger10 ай бұрын
Normally, you should do that. In VIDA, there is an option to reset the transmission adaptations and also another one to perform an adaptation of the transmission. When performing the adaptation, you go on a drive and accelerate at certain RPMs so that the computer can learn the shift points. It makes it a lot smoother, especially on downshifts. If you don't have a DICE tool, the computer will relearn overtime but will shift poorly until it does, so I wouldn't recommend not doing the readaption process.

Hi, what is the part No of the FCP oil pan?
@tedbrookins3 жыл бұрын
The 3rd gear brake band that is actuated by the b4 solenoid often wears out of spec to the point of causing the shudder and then shift flares from 2nd into 3rd gear. The transmission will not shift promptly into 3 and will bang into 3 or 4 if the desired speeds are severely not matched or solenoids are slow. I’m about to see if I can replace the band in-car and then doing the tcm relearn after replacing old solenoids and seals.
@jonnnyonion3 жыл бұрын
Bro that sounds exactly like the s60 T5 I have, i have also noticed if i brake and slow the car down enough to were the gear i was in for example 4th is too high of a gear for the new lower speed am doing now the car will dip the clutch at sit and 1000 rpm untill i put my put on the throttle downshifting into 3 but it will bang into the downshift any outher rpm is not a problem it down shifts fine it's only when you slow down to really low rpm and the car dips the clutch it bang into the downshift.
@tedbrookins3 жыл бұрын
Yep, it’s the band. If you replace it soon, it’ll keep the clutch sets from getting burnt out. I drive normally until the car’s warm and occasionally do the kickdown if I need to get ahead in traffic. When the transmission is warm, that’s when the hesitation and banging into 3 from 2 and sometimes shudder from 4 back into 3 happens. Sometimes I have to hold out 2nd gear until line pressure allows a smooth shift without relying too much on the worn brake band. Otherwise a well protected transmission.
@tedbrookins3 жыл бұрын
Some solenoids also get slow and sticky from the old fluid and the heat.

@fcpeuro3 жыл бұрын
you'll want to apply 12v directly to the pump pins, if the pump kicks on then your problem is likely a broken angle gear collar sleeve or a bad module. If it doesn't, replace the pump and filter. Also inspect the Haldex control module for excess corrosion on the electrical connections, it is located on the Haldex unit attached in front of the rear differential.

Hi, could you help me please with some info? I am fairly new to Volvo. Bought a 2002 V70 station wagon about 2 yrs ago. I did a complete flush of the transmission & car has zero issues with 160K miles on it now. This is a non turbo car. My question is this: being a front wheel drive, does it have differential fluid that needs draining and replacing ? if so, what do I use ? and is there a video with the location of the drain bolts ? Finally, how often am I suppose to flush the transmission fluid? I did a complete flush, not a drain. I used up 12 quarts to do a complete flush. Thank you.
@dvdouden3 жыл бұрын
No, your V70 does not have separate differential fluid. The differential for the front wheels is inside the gearbox and runs in the same oil as the gearbox.
@AB-hx9hs3 жыл бұрын
@@dvdouden Ok, so that means I need to drain and change the gear box fluid then, correct ?? What does it use/what kind of gear oil and where is the drain plug ?? Do you have a video for this ?? Thank you.
@AB-hx9hs3 жыл бұрын
@@dvdouden So isn't that "Gearbox Oil" the same as Transmission Fluid or is there a Separate Gearbox Oil ?? I am confused. Please reply. Thanks.
@dvdouden3 жыл бұрын
@@AB-hx9hs gearbox, transmission, same thing. You only need to replace the transmission oil/fluid, the front differential is part of the transmission. Also be aware that there is no bolt for filling the transmission with new fluid. You'll need to fill it through the dipstick hole. There is a bolt that looks like it's plugging a fill port, but that's actually keeping a metal band in place. You wouldn't be the first person to undo that bolt and then lose 3rd or 4th gear completely and that's not something that can be fixed without taking the gearbox apart. The correct type of transmission fluid was mentioned in this video. There's a bunch of video's on KZbin already with the correct procedure for replacing the transmission fluid.
@AB-hx9hs3 жыл бұрын
@@dvdouden Yes thank you, that is what I thought, that it is only Transmission Fluid. I did the Flush when I bought the car 2 yrs ago and filled it through the dip stick and did the Flush not the drain. Took 12 Quarts of Fluid. Some forums people talk about the dealer resetting the transmission computer after the flush and the transmission now shifting like brand new. Is there such a thing as resetting the tranny computer on this car ?? My transmission shifts flawlessly so far. thanks so much.

Here we are, at 289k (04 V70 2.4l, AW55-50), and the fluid hasn't been touched in over 200k miles, if not 250k. The fluid certainly isn't red.. but not too black yet. I inherited this car at 258k, and the whole time everyone (my father, mechanics, forums) says don't change the fluid as the problems will get worse, because of the clutch material in the fluid helping shifts and because it already been neglected so much.
