Our special guest will be former 35 year FDNY Capt. Tony Varriale. He was a FF. in Engine 67 and 217. He then transferred to Ladder 111. He was promoted and became Lt and assigned to Engine 290 ( follow the smoke). He was promoted to captain and assigned to Engine 24 for 10 years. He then transferred to Engine 302 where he worked for over 8 years and finished out his career. He may have been lifted a time or 2., possibly, allegedly, I might have heard 🥴(what’s up with these guys 😂). You don’t want to miss this one. I know I m not a firefighter, I'm only a buff, but the odor of gas discussion is really crucial to the job. As Father Mychal Judge said on 9/10/01 in his "Last Homily", "You get on the rig, put one foot in front of the other, and you go to work, which is a mystery. You have no idea what is until you get there." You don't know what is going to happen on the way to the gas leak. Whether or not you are going to be redirected to a bigger job, or if Murphy's Law shows up and the gas explodes.

Outstanding show fellas, like Kevin said you can see the Captain still has the passion for the job. Great stories and obviously all those years of knowledge, I could listen to him for another two hours.

Like Drennan in L-5, Tony was great for E24. When I was in L-3 one of our guys somehow volunteered us to run the collation for the 125 FDNY Anniversary. We were stumped with so much to do, but Capt. Drennan used the fact we saved a nearby church from a 2nd alarm cellar fire and they let us use their huge basement hall for free. John Santore's brother was a beer and soda rep and we got most of the beverages for cost. L- 3 took care of the food and stuff and the event came up roses. So many great guys lost because of useless politicos. I made sure all of that is in my books.

A) Great Show Again...the saying was "Tonights the Night." B) No question, for Firefighters around the world, the buildings in New York will humble you...

36:30 it's funny that human nature doesn't change, regardless of geography; a similar gag was played in 1980's New Orleans. 45:00 POSA story is great! I always wondered about the coincidence / origin of POSA.

Me: "Hey Tony, how come I'm having so much trouble finding the basement door and the fire?" Tuff Tony: "Don't worry kid, it'll find you!"
