The re-enactors - Union and Confederate - are teachers of our history ! The parade, led by fifers and drummers, illustrates to me the job of my great-great grandfather..a fifer in the Union Army. He marched in the Grand Review in Washington D.C. after the Confederate surrender.

This isn’t marching. This is uncoordinated walking
@j.igrant69494 жыл бұрын
@@staying_spooky Actually that's one of the things that I find very interesting about the American military. During the Civil War, the army was mostly made out of volunteers and militia who volunteered/drafted to fight for the Union. These were normal civilians with other professions who took up arms to fight for what they believed in. Them marching or "Uncoordinated walking" as you put it reminds me that they are civilian soldiers first and foremost. Nothing beats British pomp and military parades but there's something unique to the way the Americans march, as if they are casually strolling which is less intimidating but shows off as a sort of peaceful/friendly soldiers who are only called upon to restore the Union and defend their country. It's obviously different now since the US military is moving towards a more professional standing army and their mission has somewhat changed... but their humble history still shows through their drills and parades. Or it could be just me overanalyzing and the reenactors just suck at marching

Tony Tilson I'm from the area...we have plenty that reenact as confederate soldiers. Relax. I am 100% sure that there were Confederate reenactors in the parade, but this is only a four and a half minute clip and you weren't in attendance. Also, would you not find it a bit odd that born northerners would be reenacting as a Confederate if they have no ties to the south? I get the feeling that you would also complain about a northerner in a CSA uniform and bitch that its a misrepresentation. There are more union reenactors simply because they are locals and live here and Gettysburg is easy for them to get to. If you want to see more Confederate reenactors, I suggest you move here and play your part in reenacting and represent the south...or quit complaining.
