Mind blowing movie - just wonderful! The Civil War was a sad chapter in our history, but the heroism and determination on display makes me proud to be an American!

Yes it was mind-blowing how horribly done it was. Making it here as they were the confederacy's moments away from winning the war if only Robert e Lee was in a fool and he would have listened to Longstreet. Absolutely rubbish. The Confederacy is getting its ass kicked. The only army having any success under Lee is the army of Northern Virginia. Is invasion of the north is purely political is out of desperation to get Lincoln out of office they cannot defeat the North military that is all he's hoping for a victory on Northern soil he has no hopes of invading the North or crushing Washington DC it is all fiction. And had he listened to Long Street he would have got trapped and got the whole army destroyed. The movie is terrible 🙄

It's a a shame a movie on the Battle of Vicksburg was never made it was going on during the same time. Very few understand that the Union Victory at Vicksburg was also as important. It divided the south and cut the confederacy in two. They captured New Orleans and all the way up the Mississippi into Tenn.

Vicksburg would require a miniseries. Up to the beginning of the siege would be interesting, but the final 6 weeks would be pretty slow. There is a segment on Vicksburg in the movie "The Blue & the Grey" that's pretty interesting.

One of the greatest yet under-rated films of all time. This story is one of the most pivitol moments in our nation's history. Not just because it marked the beginning of the end of the bloodiest war in American history but because it saved our nation and preserved the union which it stood for. These men all of them both Confederate and Union soldiers all fought and died as Americans. Never forget the sacrifice they made.

I toured the Confederate Museum in Richmond. The docent there said a business professor at the Univ of Richmond would bring his students there, and tell them about Pickett's charge. He said the officers would stand back and urge the soldiers on. When it came time to storm the wall, they would go to the front and expose themselves to withering fire from the Union troops. "That, he would say, is the difference between management and leadership." If you are ever in Richmond, the museum is a must see.

IMO, THE #1 candidate for an Oscar nomination, was Richard Jordan for Best actor in A Supporting Role. Knowing he was dying of cancer , & seeing how he portrayed the ultimate tragedy of brother against brother, friend against friend -------to me, his character of Armistead was the most personally compelling , even more than Jeff Daniels , who did a fantastic job, as Chamberlain. I just felt the sadness & tragedy of Armistead, knowing his closest friend was right there, 1 mile away , on the other side of this terrible conflict, which will never end. NEVER. ------------MJL, 77 y/o

At the battle of "Chickamauga", Hood once again was wounded severely and had to have his right leg amputated four inches below the hip. The severed leg was sent along with him in the ambulance; because ,the doctors thought he would not live and they could bury the leg with him.
