I grew up with Billy and Ronald. I remember the Christmas that he got his first drum set. My brother (Roger) and I got football helmets. Kamau (Larry) King

Billy Hart: "[Well, like they said], the great Joshua Redman, the great Joshua Redman, on tenor; AND the great Ben Street will be playing the bass; and the great Ethan Iverson will be playing the piano. So this first piece will be dedicated to Hampton Hawes, but it's called 'South Hampton'. Thank you." 0:31

Billy Hart: "So; King Solomon married Sheba, and they had a child, one of Solomon's many children. But this piece is named for a particular young woman named Balqis. Thank you." 11:29

Doesn't get better than this... Amazing line up- I could listen to Mr. Hart play for days. Had the pleasure of meeting him at a show in NY a few months ago- super nice guy, and very humble. Thanks for posting this one!!

Me too at my music school Cornish in the 80s on tour with Joann Brackeen. He was very cool and expansive. Brackeen who is very keen on Music Education asked if we had any questions of the trio. One of the audience members who wasn't a student or a jazz musician kinda went after Brackeen for playing fast all the time. Billy fielded that question with some vigor in Brackeen's defence. Also at that time I was fascinated with Brackeen's albums and noticed Hart who had played on numerous of her LPs had really developed a kind of vocabulary specific to her highly distinct and unique compositions. He clearly knew these tunes inside out as opposed to Dejohnett who I also heard with her.

The piano solo 1st tune is actually a nice picture frame for the bass and drums. If you play this way those cat's 'll love you.

Georgios Vlachos / 19th of Oct. 2023 The quartet is excellent, but the person who presents this concert does not inform us about the instrumentalists, the place and the year they play. Such mistakes are unacceptable.
