Now that's what 4 musicians fully engaged with one another sounds like!!! It fills my heart with joy to find jazz that's alive and breathing...

A band comprised of the heir apparents to each of the members of Old and New Dreams??? Seriously??? IMHO, this supergroup is one of the biggest surprises in creative music in quite some time. They are literally picking where Old and New Dreams left off and are going to deeper reaches of the universe. Wow 😲. Among their many other individual projects, I hope that they can keep this group intact and see how far they can go

You nailed it, which is one reason, among other that my heart’s broken about Ron. He was, well, everything: human, supporter, leader, composer, inspirer, improviser of the highest order.

This is a beautiful, engaging, and breathing conversation between superb listeners. But I hate that the first thing I think of when I see Ron Miles is Runnin’ and Gunnin’

Still can't really comprehend how can Brian Blade sound that good with his snare in such an angle.
@eduvarallo6 жыл бұрын
its easier to get the rim shot! (of course, if you have your hands on this angle too) its all kind of personal taste

Josh Redman is my fave Tenor player, just watched his interview @ Whitworth university, (Mind & Heart education), what an intelligent,open & honest individual, as a novice player i came away from that totally 100% inspired....so much crap in the world, good music is the ultimate refuge...............

Lots of comments about Brian Blade, and deservedly so. That's why it's so frustrating that in all of the studio recordings with him the drums are sooo low in the mix. I don't get it!!!

Less involving than their mentor band because they don't play from the 'Ornette spirit' - just a simulation of it. DR seems on the verge of redesigning the use of the tenor sax, but steers safely clear. He's a 'mainstream' artist, and mustn't be other than conservative, for his constituency. It's good for any group to bring their own identity to musical known qualities. This one, though, is a yawn. Sharp, precise playing isn't enough.
