Ford lost its way with Mustang from '74 through 2004 (Even '71-'73 was bloated and loosing its way). They only got back on track in 2005. Late 70s and 80s Mustangs were cheap and ill-proportioned, designed by people who didn't seem to understand the nature of the car.

It’s mostly because of the oil crisis that happened. Japan was beating us with their small cars that didn’t use much gas. We tried to make them small and not use much power. But I agree
