It's now the 50th anniversary of the '68 Mustangs! Half a century ago, damn I feel old, but the '68 Mustangs are simply awesome! Love that priceless GT 2+2 Fastback with the C-stripe around the side air scoop. I was a 2-3 year-old in 1968, and I can remember sitting in the back seat of our parents 3 year-old 1965 Mustang looking out the window driving by a Ford dealership and seeing all these beautiful, new '68 Fastbacks on the lot.

I've owned my 68 Mustang for 46 years now, and I'll never sell it! I bought it in 1977 my senior year of high school. Lifelong Southern California car, its in beautiful shape, 289, automatic, factory AC, power steering, and the optional hood with the turn signal indicators in it. Still on the road, very original, unmolested, original engine and transmission too. I remember watching these commercials in 68, I was 9. Never knew I'd own one and have it forever! Lol

This is quite surreal ...In Australia we have the Falcon with the same effect on people .. We also now have RHD Mustangs and have had many earlier ones imported ..They are great .. However our Mustang is the Falcon . I have a 2008 FG XR6 ..It has the famous Barra inline DOHC 24 valve full VCT four litre 6 cylinder engine and the ZF sports shift transmission .Admittedly it's not the XR6 Turbo built from the same Barra engineering that mostly eats V8's for breakfast but it's bulletproof reliable , tons of power and torque and I get excited to drive it just like these old commercials with the classic Mustangs depict ...Of course the Falcon had some incredible V8's over 56 years here until it was discontinued in 2016 and the factory supercharged 5 litre Coyote was /is an absolute gem ...Ford lovers everywhere especially in Australia ...

The 3-minute -long ad at 3:00 is kinda trippy, but wow what a concept and catchy jingle. It's a twilight zone episode where you buy a mustang and suddenly Mustang sets you free and you're out of your own skin! The humdrum 55 year old husband; the 30-something housewife; the teenage beauty...or her dad peeling out leaving loverboy behind; the beleaguered chairman of the bored (see what I did there); the fortysomething woman being admired by the young guys. "Only Mustang makes it happen. Let it happen, it's your fate. Mustang's callin', have a ball in, Mustang, Mustang, 68!

67-68 fastback was absolutely the best design in Mustang's history. Only 2 years. If only my folks had known to buy a couple GT500s then and store them away!

What Ford did right was make the Mustang available with many options to suit everyone. From a docile 200 ci six, to the Shelby. Hardtop, convertible, or 2+2. What other car had that many options? Even super rare options, like a tissue holder! Imagine owning an original factory optioned Mustang with every option available?
@MisterMikeTexas2 жыл бұрын
It's well-known that Carrol Shelby didn't pick the Mustang to modify into a race-car: He was pretty much voluntold to do it. Shelby told Lee Iacocca point blank it was a "secretary's car", and he didn't take it seriously. But, Ol Shel accomplished a beauty that performed!
