Troubleshooting. Turn off the circuit if you have it identified. Pull the plug out of the box but leave it connected. Turn the power back on and check to see if you have a hot at the gfci. If you do turn the power back off. If there's a second set of wires coming off the outlet remove the wire below the incoming hot. Turn the power back on and try to reset the outlet. If it resets the issue is down the line. If it doesn't reset then replace the gfci.

Weeks…. Weeks I’ve been without lights in my bathroom because we can’t figure it out. I’ve reset the breaker, the other outlets work, the bulb isn’t broken 😞 Today I get out my voltmeter to see what’s going on. The GFCI isn’t grounding because it’s “popped” and there’s no V across positive either, but shared ground and positive terminal does have voltage flowing when the light switch it turned on. I turn the light switch off again and go back to trying to reset it, figuring the reset mechanism must be broken and I’m going to have to get the whole outlet replaced 😢 and I come here for one last shot to see if there’s anything I can do, and this man solves my entire problem in less than 100 seconds! 😂 Thank you🎉 thank you so much! You’ve saved me on Mother’s Day. My wife is going to love having lights again!! 😅

My wife and I bought a new home about 2 years ago and the kitchen receptacles worked for most of it, then suddenly the outlets on the switched side of the GFCI stopped working, but the GFCI I still did and was not tripping. So, I thought the GFCI may be faulty. Then, I discovered that the neutral from the panel was wired to the switched side of the GFCI instead of the feed side. Rewired, and checked the rest of the wiring, and everything worked as expected. Always check the wiring, since what you think is the root cause may only be a symptom of the real one.

A contractor plugged something into the power strip to a refrigerator yesterday in our garage and blew the power in half the garage. I knew that there was a GCFI outlet that was connected to the outlets on the north side so I tried the reset button, but it wouldn’t reset. No click. The GCFI plug ins were dead as expected, but I pulled the GCFI out of the junction box and found the bottom terminals of the outlet were hot. Nothing in the circuit breaker box was tripped. I plugged the refrigerator into a different source on the south side of the garage. Unplugged the RV that was connected to an outside outlet on the dead side of the garage. Now nothing is plugged into the dead side of the garage except the power strip that was plugged into the refrigerator. Still the GCFI would not reset. I found the correct circuit breaker to disconnect the GCFI, checked with the tester, then swapped out the GCFI with a new one. I reset the breaker box, verified with a tester that there is power to the terminals of the GCFI box, but the new GCFI outlet will not reset.

Also, reset all the circuit breakers, but nothing worked. This outlet has tripped before by another tenant when she plugged a portable AC to it. Hi Kevin. Outlets in the bedroom or living are not protected by gfci. 99% chance it's lose wiring in one of those outlets, (when outlets wired as daisy chain if one fails power stops going to the rest of the outlets in that chain) I'd test all non working outlets with plug tester to define if that's the case.(open neural, open hot) and power tester.

Is it normal for there to be two GFCI outlets side by side? There's two in the kitchen; one clicks when you press "Test" and "Reset" and the other not only doesn't click but the "Test" button can't be pressed at all. My problem is a power outage in a single bedroom and one light in the kitchen - seem to randomly go out together. Last month they went out for an entire week and then suddenly began working again, only to cut off two weeks later. I've tried twitching the circuit breaker but that didn't work either :/

Remote Electrician My GFCI is not resetting and there is no switch in the circuit. I purchased another GFCI and it's not resetting either. So I replaced the GFCI with a standard outlet and all the outlets are working. What do you think?
@remoteelectrician Жыл бұрын
Do you have 4 wires or just 2? If you have line and load (4) you power has to go to line terminals
@55afishead Жыл бұрын
@@remoteelectrician I have 4 wires and yes it is wired like that. I have another identical circuit that is working fine. I guess I just got two (new) GFCI's. Ill get a third and try that. Thank you.

@@55afishead no you need to wire it correctly then press reset.

@@remoteelectrician No. It's wired correctly. Just had two bad GFCI's.

What if your GFCI isn't reading any voltage, but the breaker is still bringing power to other outlets?
@remoteelectrician8 ай бұрын
doesn't make sense where are you reading voltage? if gfci terminals have power you wired it wrong.

My problem is the green light is steady on the outlet but no power and no power to the rest of the kitchen outlets. I replaced the outlet and same thing. Green light, no power no click when I hit test or reset? I bought a dead GFCI outlet?
@remoteelectrician9 ай бұрын
make sure u wire it correctly, watch how to wire gfci video. (Yes, sometimes u can buy faulty new gfci too)
@kenbe629 ай бұрын
@@remoteelectrician sure but the original outlet has been there since before I bought the place. No problems. Same exact situation between old and new outlet. Steady light so it's getting power but it seems "tripped" and I can't reset. No clicks on test or reset button on either outlet. Thanks for response.
@remoteelectrician9 ай бұрын
@@kenbe62 well if u can't reset make sure with multimeter that wires have power 120-125v, and if installing new device doesn't work and trips then you have short circuit in that junction box or the load side of that circuit.
@kenbe629 ай бұрын
@@remoteelectrician Both new and old outlets should click when the buttons are depressed, yes? Neither does. Thanks again for the responses. Definitely be watching more of your videos.

No If it doesnt have 120v at the terminals or there’s a short/ground fault in that circuit

I have a GFCI outlet in my backyard that suddenly lost power one day. I checked it with a meter and found that there was no power coming from the live and neutral wires. There are two outlets in my backyard, one of which is a GFCI outlet and the other is an ordinary one. I believe that both outlets are connected. I checked the circuit breaker panel and found that no circuit breakers had tripped. Additionally, all other outlets inside my house are functioning properly. I had an electrician come to my house to investigate the issue, but after spending 20 minutes checking, he was unable to find a solution. Do you have any clue?
@remoteelectrician Жыл бұрын
look for a switch, your gfci outlet may be switched and until that switch is on you won't be able to reset it. (switch can be inside, or if you had lighting plugged to that gfci look for timer switch)
@yeayeaMM Жыл бұрын
@@remoteelectrician there is no switch whatsoever, I checked all the switch in my house
@remoteelectrician Жыл бұрын
1. need to trace wiring path. (you may still have a switch but can't locate) 2. turn off breaker for that outlet an check what else that breaker controls. and check those devices wiring.(every one of them)
@yeayeaMM Жыл бұрын
@@remoteelectrician there is a breaker inside the panel named GFCI, I turned that off and I checked every outlet in my house still have power. So that breaker may be only for that backyard GFCI
@remoteelectrician Жыл бұрын
@@yeayeaMM check breaker wiring, or there maybe another gfci outside or inside from which it's getting fed on the load side.

you have short circuit if it's feeding another outlet. or just bad gfci(may need replacement)
