Hi Marcus! Thanks for putting this video together. I also have a KZbin channel but I don't own the R5 so I have not done this comparison. I purchased the GFX 100S and the 110mm f2 was my first lens, along with the 23-64mm f4. I wondered from the beginning if I should have purchased the R5 instead. If I was doing more sports and high-speed photos, I think it's a no-brainer. R5 all the way. But for mostly landscapes, art nudes, products, and portraits, the GFX 100S has been amazing. I still wonder if I should have gotten the R5 though, so thanks for the video. I feel much better about my purchase. Getting the R5 means a whole line of lenses as well and I'd rather not do that. I now own the 110mm f2, 32-64mm f4, 45-100mm f4, 100-200 f4, the Laowa 17mm f4, the TTArtrisan 90mm f1.25, both macro extension tubes, and I am saving for the 20-35mm f4. The 32-64mm might be redundant at this point but I may end up keeping it. Keep cranking out those videos and thanks again. Juan

Man you are really making it hard for me to say no to the Fuji 100S. I don't currently own a medium format camera. I downloaded your RAW files from the first video a few days ago. All I can say is the dynamic range on the 100S is KRAAZZEEE! I have a lot of cameras but nothing I own comes close to the 100S. Totally agree with you on this one, keep up the great work.

I was a Sony shooter for years. I still have my A7RIVA which was supposed to have medium-format-rivaling dynamic range. While there's a ton of information and latitude in the Sony raw files, there is NO comparison to the GFX100S. Since I got mine, my Sony bodies have been collecting dust. And I even use the 100S for client shoots with animals and kids. The AF speed isn't Sony speed, but it's certainly good enough to keep up with most of my work.

Thank you for the videos and files, a great help in deciding if i want to give the (now pricewise very interesting) GF100S a shot for slower paced work alongside my Canon cameras. The ISO performance and ability to extremely push dark files/shadows without the files breaking apart is awesome. the resolution difference between the R5 and 100s is interestingly much lower than i had anticipated, i am sure its different for stopped down landscape work but wide open the RF lenses are so extremely sharp that the Fuji lenses do not compete. i would even say the R5 files have more usable resolution than the GF100s with the 80 1.7. despite having less than half the megapixels. the 110 2 looks quite a bit better but still...not so much in between as i would have thought.

I feel like when it comes to the 100s The only way to sum up the files is that they’re just not polluted with anything I look at the surroundings everything is perfect clean color extremely realistic. After downloading all of these 100s are the best files I have ever seen. The only issue and it’s a big one. What the hell am I gonna do with a 100mp camera way too much! I would say editorial commercial only. I love the R5 the files weren’t bad and the color wasn’t so hard to match but I think the D850 would be a better option to fight these Fujis! Marcus Thanks for this great video. Would you consider doing a video on the 100s using studio strobes love to see what the studio results would look like with OCF.
@SNAPAVELI Жыл бұрын
That is one thing I didn’t mention! The files are huge! I could only shoot about 340 on a 64gb card. And my computer is noticeably slower importing them. Yes I do think the d850 would be much closer in file comparison. Thank you so much for watching!!
@claudianreyn4529 Жыл бұрын
The 100mp have a very small noise on high ISO. On top of that, this sensor preserves sharpness even at 6400 ISO much better than Canon. Second, you can have a portrait crop sometimes from a full body shot. Or you can make a Horizontal shot and cut it vertical. 100mp is not that much in fact. If you cut the photo in half you already have the size of the Canon sensor. Personally I shoot in compressed RAW because I noticed no disadvantage and the files are 100mb. Bottomline, the 100mp gives you better flexibility and better low light performance.

Man Fuji should at least sponsor you. I mean, I bought Fuji literally because of your videos and your work. Although I wish Fuji autofocus is more like Canon/Sony and give us the option to shoot with lower megapixels, like 50. But for the price, can't be beaten. However, I do wish that Fuji go with Sony's approach of miniaturizing their lenses and using multiple linear motors to make it faster. Overall, let's see where Fuji will be in the future.

Nice one M! I went through that exact dance as you. Full frame file are really nice and colour is in the end what makes the biggest difference. It comes down to what is"good enough " to satisfy someone and what you are comfortable with handing over to clients. Time is what it comes down to and exposing images and framing images as close to what is final. Once these skills are at a certain level to get the best quality out of full frame, you could use that same time and effort to get that much more out of images that start with a greater bit depth and pixel size to have an even more awesome file. It never ends. It was the same when I shot film and so now with digital. I find full frame pointless to invest in as it's also expensive. The xh2 files and speed of that xh2(s), make it an excellent B cam to supplement shooting when you"need" a video or system fast enough for sports. So cropped medium format is great for me.
@SNAPAVELI Жыл бұрын
That’s exactly it! I think that I think about these things more than the clients do lol. Most can’t tell the difference at all , but they are looking at how I made them look instead of the file quality. I do want to try the xh2.
@anthonyrock5039 Жыл бұрын
@@SNAPAVELI yeah man, the XH2(s) cams are baby GFXs hehe. You will love them. The quality of files made me skip the idea of a Sony full frame as a second cam to my GFX/Hasselblad system. For me the XH is a video cam and B cam plus travel cam to my main. Time to edit is what people won’t understand until they experience the difference in working situations beyond single comparison files. But yes colour shifts through recovery and even basic editing is a good one.

Love your videos as always JM! I've been wanting to tell you for a while about a pre-raw converter called PureRaw2. I've shot as a pro with Canon for about 15 years and found this and I'm addicted. It removes noise and adds in detail to files then outputs as a DNG. I have been using it on my old files shot with the 1D Mark III and 5D Mark IV and it's almost like getting a couple extra stops of dynamic range because it scrubs out the noise in the shadows without making anything look fake or "smudgy" like most noise removal programs. Then you take that DNG and use it in your normal workflow. Whenever I watch your videos and I see how you like to pull up shadows I have wanted to let you know, though I suspect it's not allowed to mention software in the comments. I'm not sponsored or have anything to do with the software at all but I've been a fan of your work and I've got a couple of my friends addicted to it. Might help you out with how you shoot. Keep it up with the great videos and I'm a big fan of the comparison videos especially. You are one of the most talented photographers I've come across on KZbin for sure.

I was checking this review / compare since I have a Canon R5 and wanted to check the medium format too as a second body/alternative. I will probably continue to use the R5 for fast object/animals and the medium format for slower/still subjects. I agree with Dris, I use that software too and it cleans a lot those files. Unfortunately Lightroom does not have a great color matching with the R5, I checked some alternatives and found that software too (I still have the version 1). As Dris, I am not a sponsor, but it helps a lot with shadow / denoise...

Great comparison thank you! Was thinking of getting a r5 or sony a4 for a more faster/dynamic jobs. Based on your video... i think i'm spoiled.. the quality of the gfx100s files is hard to go back from hahah. Seems like you're using a Mac? If you get one of those new m1 pro or max laptops or mac studios, these gfx100s edit seamlessly (at least in mine it does) - both in terms of loading the files as well as editing in photoshop!

Yes that’s another consideration for me upgrading cameras. I think my iMac is the first gen M1 iMac but I upgraded it with max everything so it does pretty decent.
