That x-pan style crop is to die for, so much character in the frame. And it takes care of the vignetting even without corrections!
@ThePhotographerGuy

For sure. crops the vignetting for sure. It's super fun. It's really nice to see what you get for composing. I wish the Leica Q series had that option.

@@ThePhotographerGuy I think every camera manufacturer would benefit from a custom crop overlay setting. At least in BlackMagic video cameras you can do a fully custom ratio and that is just brilliant.

I literally just bought the GFX 100s last week before Christmas and also bought the 63mm 2.8 GFX lens. I came from shooting Canon R line and always used my EF 35mm 1.4 Version 2 as my number one lens / favorite focal length of ALL time. As soon as I did test shots with my 63mm I was missing that 35mm focal length immediately. Started doing research and found your video and a couple others, but obviously this is a super special group that have this camera let alone pair this particular Canon lens to it. Bought the FRINGER adaptor and will return the GF 63MM and save myself 1600.00 dollars. I cannot wait for this combination !! As primariliy a portrait artist, this will be my new go to setup for the forseeable future.

Great video and lens. I use the tamron 35 1.8 vc, it covers the full sensor on the gfx even better than the canon. On most pics, shot wide open, you can make the vignette disappear completely in post. It’s a very sharp lens wide open, but if you want corner sharpness stopped down, I think there are better options. I use it mostly wide open, the separation from the background is really nice.

So I finally “upgraded” thanks to your video review of EF35! I have been using Sigma Art 35 for about 6 years on my GFX cameras, dealing in post with all the shortcomings as you showed in your other video. Got tired of it. Your EF35 video & samples “showed me the way”!… Thank you

Yup, I also found images from my R5 are brighter than from my GFX with the identical iso/f-stop/ss. Interesting. Canon must be artificially boosting the tone curve or something.
@caleidoo
@caleidoo 5 ай бұрын
Fujifilm uses a different system for ISO, that would probably explain the difference. Companies like Canon, Sony and Nikon use REI standard, whereas companies like Fujifilm, Pentax and Olympus use SOS standard.

I don't with the GFX. I had it 10 years ago with the 5d MKII. I imagine that it would adapt well. there'a good FB group called non GFX optics that might help. facebook.com/groups/650683815842245

Thanks for sharing all those amazing and personal photos. How was it lugging the GFX around? You definitely inspired me to keep dragging my camera around wherever I go. Admittedly it can feel like “work” but I’m always glad I made the effort when I can sit down and discover I got some good ones.

Thanks! It was just the same as the R5. Slight more bulk but same weight. Q2 still takes the win for a walk around kit though.

@ThePhotographerGuy
@ThePhotographerGuy 21 күн бұрын
I did test a few 50mm lenses. I put the 135 from Sigma on my camera once. It was pretty good. 24mm gets a bit too wide for Medium Format. I have a bunch of different videos. There's also a great "non-gfx optics" facebook group that has tons of info.

Glad I found your channel. I was planning to buy used gfx and paired it with some sigma ef lenses. Hoping you try a wider lenses such as the Sigma 20 f1.4. And with ultrawide, surely it will vignette like crazy but I want to know how it looks like with the xpan crop.

Awesome. I used the sigma 20mm 1.4 for a few years on the D750. I feel like sigma was already pushing the limits with full frame with that lens. xpan might cover it though.

Which filters do you use? I'm more of a hood guy but I like your use of flair, and would like to protect my lens in that case.
@ThePhotographerGuy
@ThePhotographerGuy Жыл бұрын
I've been using these for years: adorama.rfvk.net/9gA4X5 I used hoods for a while but then stopped to save space and because I love flare. I've had two instances where my filters saved my lenses when dropped. So I put one of those B&W 010 MRC filters on the day I get any lens.

Bought it and returned the next day :(. It's so inferior comparing to Sigma 40 1.4. Sigma just nails it when it comes to resolution. Canon apears rather soft on 100S :(. I'm still looking for perfect 35 mm. Will try Tamron 1.8 soon but now I'm sticking to Sigma 40; [ yeah it's heavy, it vignettes harder than Canon 35 but image is somehow much punchy ];

@@ThePhotographerGuy Maybe it's because I used 40 mm for more than a year first on 50R and then on 100S and I got used to it's pros and cons. I was still looking for 35 thou and checked my nikon/sigma art 35 but vignette is just too much / too hard. And while looking for good 35 and after seeing Your movie I checked Canon one. But comparing one with sigmas 40 mm I just couldn't sacrifice the awesome quality delivered by sigma :(. I took it for few hours walk but was at the end dissapointed. Maybe that was just too short to really get into that lens. If You are soo positive I may try it once again but as for now it would be great to hear what You thing about tamrons 35 1.8. Bests and awesome work!
