Some explanation form the creator of the fort: * It runs around 30 fps for me * Bookkeeper is nicknamed "Eastwarden" beacause he was the original expedition leader * 7 graves at the top of the temple complex are for the original 7 dwarves that started the fortress * warrior tombs are for legendary skill warriors that died in the defense of the fortress. They have their weapon and shield that they named, and in case they haven't done it beafore they died, or the item was lost somehow, they just get generic steel weapon /shield. And the statue covering entrance to the grave describes their glorious fight and death in a battle. *all engravers died in this fortress. i guess this job is cursed there.

So happy to see some community forts! Makes me almost want to try my hand at making a vanilla/vanilla-lite fort. Need to figure out water engineering for man made misters. Tend to have way too much flow/pressure, even w resets.
@Scrumbumbler Жыл бұрын
You don’t have to get into the crazy statue/pump combo My last mister consisted of three floodgates controlling a huge reservoir, flowing diagonally into a stairwell Diagonals change water pressure to 0 or close to it At the bottom of the shaft, floor grates to drain into the caverns Make sure it has an off map portion to drain- usually in the caverns Smoothing the edge of map and making a fortification has to be wide for drainage You can order two of the three floodgates to open at a time to control flow If you tell your dwarfs to gather at the top of the shaft, you can regularly dump water on them The only deaths this causes, is at the bottom of the shaft if they slip on stairs Managed this with another reservoir, blocked by a bridge. Dwarf slipped one level- or too much water The bridge lifts, draining the water into the caves, and put a door in the slipping pit for escapes Typically only “clumsy” dwarves slip, though they also drop their babies…. No deaths but if you look away at the wrong time, it’s possible

Visitors and residents sleep on the (tavern) floor in the current version. They never use the rental rooms, those get claimed by normal dwarves, then they will show up as rented even tho they are just claimed. Long term residents can be assigned to bedrooms, but will not use them, they do not use beds at all.

My OCD is happy. I really need to try building more mosaics out of rooms. These look incredible.

Awesome.. Also, my first time seeing an actual fort with the old graphics. I was not prepared, felt like the acid kicked in :) I'm 120 hours in and are working on my first "real fort", finaly found the "Fun" beneath all the stone. Been playing just enough to realy appreciate the scale and skill behind this work of art. Thank you both for sharing

This man did everything i was too lazy to do, i got to make statues for each one now

I was lazy to do some things as well. Just take a look at the unfinished outer wall. It was ment to be at least 2-3 levels taller and have a roof and some squads patroling it all the time. On the crafting level there are multiple places where there is no built floor beacause i was lazy to re-setup stockpiles and link them to workshops again. What worked for me to not be lazy to do all this was sealing the fortress completely from the outside world for about 6-7 years. Once I've estimated that I gathered enough exotic materials from traders to realise my plans I sealed the fortress so i dont have to bother with time consuming seasonal killing of sieges , disposing of hundreds of body parts and unwanted items as well as deling with traders visiting the fortress. By this point i was sure my fort was completely self sustainable and I can focus just on building. I actually underestimated amount of materials I've ghathered, and had to improvise a bit at the end, but it only made me discover new cool material combos that worked well toghether. I tried to work mostly with various kinds of stones i had avalible and aligning them with ores and metals that were avalible in plenty. Materials i had to trade for were reserved for projects of higher significance. So I did just that , a little bit every day, and it turned out like this .

I really like this series. I am attempting something I have not seen anyone do yet, and was inspired to build it, because I get attacked by agitated animals round-the-clock.

Imagine not running your fortress like a communist tenement. Utilitarian, square and gray.
