why would ethan and miranda be at the winters house having dinner and living the good life when they are both bad guys? If ethan was possibly infected, they would have left to romania long before to start bringing back eveline. There was no reason for Chris not to tell Ethan other than they wanted YOU the player to believe Chris may be compromised. Same reason Chris says "I see you made it this far. Would be a shame if something happened to you now." Why would he say that threatening line to Ethan as if he is saying he will kill him? And then Ethan says finish the job and Chris starts walking towards him like he is going to hurt Ethan and then gets interrupted. There is no explanation for it. Its because they wanted a twist for the player and didnt mind having issues with their story in order to play with you. And thats fine.

@@GhostStorm1995 Or it's some type of long range, laser-guided missile. I've seen those types of weapon systems. A laser designater allows for a weapon system to track the laser's location and the missile's computer guidance system locks in the coordinates of where the laser is being pointed. It's a very complicated system, but the general premise is for aircraft/ artillery to drop ordnance without even having to see/ be too close to the target. I didn't expect to disagree with you so much. The beginning parts do, indeed, feel slow when playing through the whole thing again - same for House Beneviento. But in exchange, these parts get to be amazing during the first playthrough. And in my opinion, having strong, scary/creepy and memorable moments during the first playthrough is better than having a better and more streamlined NewGame+ experience. The first time playing a single player game is always the most important one, IMO. Plus, I don't think these sections are too bad on replay. I in fact got excited to try to go through the werewolf raid again with all my upgraded weapons; the way you play differs and it's nice. House Beneviento still manages to be creepy (the baby especially) and if you know what to do, it doesn't take too long. Finally, complaining that we only play as Chris for a short time doesn't even make sense to me. The game is about Ethan. Yes, Chris is in the cover, but the game is about Ethan and by the time you get to Chris's part that should already be very obviously clear to the player. I don't know how anyone would've expected the Chris section to last as long as an Ethan section. I also strongly disagree about this part being "bad". I actually thought it was amazing. You got to feel how powerful Chris Redfield is at that point, now that he has dealt with so many bioweapon incidents. And the whole section was really awesome - the music, the atmosphere, and even the quick pacing that shows us that we're really taking part in a military mission that has to be fast and effective. I think, in fact, that this game has the best "final part" of any RE game. RE games usually tend to get not-so-good endings. RE4 which is a masterpiece has a somewhat weak ending, especially the last fight. RE:Village ending was amazing IMO; the entire Chris sequence, the information, the boss battles, everything. I think RE:Village is a masterpiece that will be loved for years to come. So I disagree with you on a lot of these issues. I do agree, however, that the difficulty progression is flawed. In particular, the werewolf raid in the beginning is quite broken, especially on hardcore. The game should at least have told the player what to do, like, "survive until the end of the raid", anything. As it is, it is extremely brutal in an unfair and weird way, and is the hardest part in the game (especially on hardcore). That's a flaw.

@@jamesduncan6729 it's just new game+, all that's different is you keep your weapon upgrades from the 1st playthrough. This isn't Nier Automata where you restart the game and there is actually new content with another story and all that or an open world title where you can just explore the world and do side missions at your own pace like skyrim, metal Gear or even Dark Souls. It's a semi linear survival horror action game. Plus, when you play a single player title first impressions count a whole lot.

I always play Hardcore on most RE games starting off, and It was a struggle with barely anything. Replaying the game with my new arsenal and getting back at the enemies was extremely satisfying. It makes sense how the tone of the game when playing as Chris switches to him just feeling almost omnipotent, this man, just like Leon has gone through hell and back in every way possible vs BOWs, and it really shows when in comparison to Ethan, even in the game you can tell, Ethan even trained struggles vs the Lycans when grabbed, meanwhile Chris literally right hooks the fuckers out of his face, as if it was annoyance more than a threat. Ethan turning out to be a mold and killing him off in this game when he just about got a personality is kind of sad, though. I admit. The ending is certainly better than most RE games, no obvious usual countdown, just a very emotional final fight to end the game, even the music. The emotion and tension in the fight is impressive, makes it feel like a dark souls boss.

The chris section has laser designator for one of his squad mates and the guy shouts at you about having to reload if you try to designate the location too soon. it's not an air strike. That being said the chris section is still weird to me. BSAA are using bio weapons and chris is full on working with Blue Umbrella. I know in "not a hero" he joins up with Blue Umbrella as a BSAA member to hunt down Lucas Baker. There is dialog where Chris says he doesn't trust blue umbrella and wants to know what they're up to. But it feels like they either forgot or straight up drop that plot line for RE Village. I feel like "IF" they do make dlc for Village they need to do some explaining what the hell Chris is doing. Because at this point i'm not sure this is the same Chris Redfield from the previous RE games.
@12ealDealOfficial
@12ealDealOfficial 3 жыл бұрын
Apparently this is the same Chris that was in RE5, judging from the Africa comment while he's with the squad. One other thing to remember is who the writers are. I think the lead writer is the Spec Ops: The Line guy; that game had some mind altering shenanigans in it. It was a huge red flag when Chris's healing items in the inventory are Umbrella labelled syringes closer to narcotics than, say, a first aid spray, a bottle of alcohol, or an herb. I think Chris will be a super soldier clone or brainwashed. The brainwashing thing would make sense given the note in RE2:R where Claire mentions that Chris is acting/ behaving nothing like her brother in that message he left for STARS.
@GhostStorm1995
@GhostStorm1995 3 жыл бұрын
I think there was a story in another media some time in the early 2000's (it is kinda fuzzy for me but i think it was a comic book) Right after the events of RE 1 Chris leaves a note for Claire to not get her involved, while he hunts down other umbrella sites to collect evidence and take them down for good. They would have to had done the clone/brainwashing after the events of 6 or 7. But i'm not sure if they consider the comic canon tho. The whole story line for RE games is spaghetti to me. I'm gonna have to do some fact checking after this. Edit: i checked the wiki for the letter and Chris and pretty much what i said minus the whole comic book thing... I mean, it seemed to me that he's not really working for anyone in RE8. He basically takes control of the BSAA's Hound Wolf squad, and goes rogue with them. Whether he does that solely just to hunt down Miranda, or whether it was due to him losing faith in the BSAA, or even something entirely different. We just don't know yet. I'm personally intrigued by the whole BSAA using BOWs are soldiers, since they've mostly been portrayed as a good organization prior to RE8, so seeing them go as far as to use their own BOWs to fight other BOWs, well, I sure want to see why.

I know a lot of people are going to disagree with me on this, but having Ethan as a protagonist as opposed to playing as the original characters was refreshing. If CAPCOM still wants to continue pushing the franchise back to it's horror roots I personally think it's best that they keep making the main protagonist be an inexperienced survivor as opposed to using the original characters, who at this point are experienced badasses that are generally unfazed by the new BOWs they encounter. Chris's section pretty much shows a more realistic outcome when one of the more experienced protagonist of the franchise decides to take action against the BOWs, he comes fully equipped with weaponry and even has an paramilitary force to back him up, it's a far-cry from RE1 when he entered the mansion with nothing more than a handgun and he was thrown into an event that was completely out of his depth. I'm not saying CAPCOM should forget about the OG characters entirely, but I do find it difficult to think about how they could achieve a horror-like atmosphere when you are playing as a well-known badass with years of experience under their belts that do impressive feats that are borderline super-human at this point.

First, nice avatar (PoUr Me A dRiNk, BaRtEnDeR.) Second, it pains me to say this, but I agree. I just don't happen to like the character billed as the protagonist of the next game, who is supposed to be some kind of telepath/ teen superhero type. The only way I see Resident Evil becoming scary again is if it continues becoming "sim-ier." Capcom has already shown some cool attention to detail with the firearms in their games, what with the mag retention, press checks, reloading animations, and so on, but these are still games where zombie bites and wounds don't matter all that much, and ammunition is plentiful. The series should retain combat, focus more on exploration and puzzle solving, but make a smaller amount of enemy encounters matter more, with less ammo laying around, and absolutely no in-game economy. As Mikami said when directing the RE1: Remake, "Everything should be done for making the game more realistic." Maybe a bigger focus on atmospheric enemy sounds, more non-humanoid enemies (and only one or two humanoid enemies), and some even more realistic shooting mechanics (checking mag capacity manually, like in Condemned, etc).

Like "hey we know you have been scrounging up and saving ammo, go nuts for 20 min with an assault rifle." I will say the biggest issue for me is the pacing. Leonardo (or whatever Elena's grumpy dad's name is) merely got scratched by a lycan and turned within presumably a few hours. I thought the lycans were made by implanting cadou parasites? It's mentioned in journals left by Moreau and Miranda how they create them or how unsuccessful vessels often become lycans. But are they infectious? Obviously Ethan can't be infected because he's made of the stuff that mutates them in the first place, but I don't know where else it gets established that lycans can turn other people without a cadou.

Chris is having a little self contained crisis in the background of 8’s story, the problem is...it’s in the background. It’s never properly convaid in the narrative, so it struggles to make Chris actions feel properly motivated. This will be a long read, but let me explain. Constantly watching innocent people murdered by horrible nightmare-fueled abominations, Chris begins to distance himself from people. RE6 was a dramatic example of this, but it still shows how he began to cope with these events. But after RE7, he is personally put in charge of the protection of the Winters, and the Winters even trust in him enough to keep them and their newborn child safe. This is a position Chris is normally never in, and he starts to grow a little attached...but that guilt complex has still never been dealt with. Once Chris realized that he had failed to protect the Winters and that they were all in grave danger by yet another nightmare fueled abomination, he goes completely nuclear to try and make things right. He took everything into his own hands, to the point that he and his squad went completely rogue in their rescue operation as evidence by the letter Zoe receives in the mail. The whole game, what we’re seeing is Chris repeatedly try and keep the Winter’s (Ethan) “safe”, while remaining emotionally distant enough to get the job done, even when it no longer makes sense for him to keep up that angle anymore, because it’s all Chris really knows how to do. We only see that mental wall finally crack when Ethan proves himself to Chris in Heisenberg’s factory, an then finally tumble when he’s failing to save a dying Ethan at the end of the game. Which, by the way, is probably about as worst-case-scenario as it could have gotten for Chris. The only way it things could have gone worse is if he had failed to save Mia and Rose, as well. So I think it’s safe to assume that Chris probably won’t be in the best headspace when RE10 eventually rolls around. So, does Chris go so overboard that you have to suspend your disbelief? Yeah, a bit. But does his actions still come believable place? Yes, I think so. Seriously, play the game again with this is mind and you might see things differently. Again, I think the real problem is that none of this is actually shown in a proper narrative spotlight since we’re glued to Ethan’s perspective (most of the time). And that is the real shame here. It does Chris dirty.

I really wish there was an option to skip all the way to where you first enter the main hub area, or even the first time you meet the Duke before the castle. Maybe have it disable time based trophies. Or maybe, have it only be available for NG+, and it adds the amount of time it took you to get there on the previous run to the timer.

You forgot the stupid "twist" that Ethan can't die. As soon as the lycans bit his fingers off in the start I thought about how in RE7 Ethan was revealed to be a fungus boy becaus the megamycete exposure. His hand gets cut off at the start of RE7 and he just slaps it back on, so WHY DOESN'T HE REMEMBER THIS? He acts so surprised when evaline shows up to tell him but if I can remember it as a player, he should remember it since it was part of his life :V

it's a weird thing because i never got my leg chopped by jack in RE7, but then and there the game tells you "hey, you're just like this eveil guys" and so whenever something outlandish happened to ethan in 8 i just went "whatever, he'll just first aid it back" and that was that

Reason why Ethan uses firearms much better in that sense, is because as it was written, or told, that Chris trained him and Mia in combat for self defense. Those puzzles, it took me for a while to find the last bell or two, the one on the chandelier and outside of the window. I think it could be called a "puzzle", but in that sense, since it is not a puzzle, but it definitely made you look for the bells for a bit. FOV feels pretty okey to me, unlike some other games where it feels zoomed it so hard, but here it is pretty much good and I have no issues, since I didn't even noticed it, meaning there was no issues for me.

The segment in Village with Chris reminds me of Mike helping out Leon in Resident Evil 4. That section gave you shit tonnes of ammo and meds plus the pure joy of watching Ganados eat dirt. Its great cause both ways, you might have been struggling and its good to have a power shift. That's just me.

I was all set to buy this game having skipped RE7, because it looked like they were really using RE4 as the inspiration for this one. The one gameplay aspect from RE4 that I was hoping would be there, was sorely missing however. RE4 is considered the best overall game in the series, and one of the best games of all time, in no small part to having an extremely well balanced "hit stun into melee" combat system. It's not over done like in RE5 and RE6, or too difficult to strategize like in RE:R. RE4 got it just right. Stun them in the head, get a weaker area attack. Stun them in the knee, get a stronger attack on a single enemy. It's basically a simple and well thought gameplay math equation. Without this system, RE4 becomes a much more redundant 3rd person shoot bang. Just try playing RE4 without new game+ weapons, and not ever using the context sensitive melee system. It's not even the same game. This is the gameplay element that I was sure REVILL would resurrect from RE4. Sadly all we got was a block and push mechanic to set up more accurate gunshots. What's weird is that all of the enemies seem to have a stun animation, when shooting their critical areas enough, where you could go in for a melee attack. But instead you have to manually use your knife for weak damage. Everything else, which is required to make a worthy RE4 spiritual successor, seems to be here, except the mechanic that made RE4 addicting and ground breaking. It's looks like a great game, but it could have been one of the best ever made with that simple gameplay addition.

I completely disagree about the slowness of the prologue. For a first time play through, it does a great job of starting the story. On repeat play throughs(when you know what you’re doing), that 30-40 minutes of slowness can be completed in 10-15

Damn, never in my whole playthrough, did I shoot the braziers. I was so frugal with my ammo, I spent up to maybe even 15 minutes whacking these damn things. The worst was the secret Lady D statue room. I just had to run at the braziers and have them whack into each other , then get the zombie assholes to run into the fire, themselves. Other than that, by far the most annoying things to me, on a first run, was the sections where fish face could eat you instantly, with a single misstep on those pathetic bridge sections and the factory ball puzzle made me say out loud to myself, "This was $65." Awesome game beyond that.
