This game was destroyed by the critics mainly for being a “gta clone”. However, it got better shooting mechanics and gameplay than GTA, there are more interactions with the NPC, it featured TWO maps (without counting the final mission), its voice cast was HUGE, the amount of dialogues gigantic, the OST featured an insane rooster of artists, and it really makes you FEEEEL like a crime kingpin (for example, instead of hijacking cars like a thug, Tony would call one of his henchmen to bring him one of his luxury cars, and then they would bring the car sometimes loaded with weapons and with a crew of boot licking bodyguards).

Vice City and Scarface both have similar qualities in scenery and era, so they just make sense to me to have fun with. Scarface introduced so many new mechanics that felt like Vice City 2. What particularly impressed me back then was the insane amount of different dialogues you could have with random pedestrians, which almost rivals today's RDR2 (not kidding), and I loved the taunting mechanic, which could also be applied in car traffic, a feature I've never seen again in any other game. The constant cussing and swearing during firefights to build up your rage also added a very distinct flavour to combat, and even though it was essentially a GTA clone, many of the gameplay elements were great improvements and actually ahead of its time, like the ability to call yourself a new car, an arms dealer or a hitman.

The whole game is his final moments after getting shot during the mansion attack. At first sight it seems like you are just given control of the character and can survive the attack if you play well enough. However if you look carefully at everything going on you will notice that the entire story is just a hallucination. Here are a few clues I found: 1. When Tony goes after Sosa's partners on of them says "You're supposed to be dead. Sosa killed you." 2. Tony meets a man who calls himself The Sandman (voiced by the same actor who played Manny). The Sandman is a mythical character in European folklore who puts people to sleep and encourages and inspires beautiful dreams by sprinkling magical sand onto their eyes. In this case it could mean that Tony is "sleeping", is in a coma to be more precise and he is imagining himself getting revenge on Sosa. 3. Tony receives a catalog containing different product he can order. One of those products is a stuffed flamingo, but the catalog describes it as "stuffed pelican". In the movie Tony is seen watching flamingos on TV and he says their are pelicans. The reason the catalogue makes the same mistake is because it was created by Tony, in his imagination.

@@thevashfan12392 i remember that if you fully optimize every aspect of your deliveries you could make a lot of money in a really short time, i finished the game with 100% completion once and it didn't took me too much time. That was a long time ago though so my memories might be fuzzy lol
@thevashfan123923 жыл бұрын
@@agrippa2012 so did I but it literally took hours of distribution which was just too much to justify going over it again maybe some day because it's still a really fun game but jesus, it was hard I extremely optimized my distribution route down to only maybe losing one store in the process (which was usually one I'd already collected from so no loss there)

@@thevashfan12392 eh, fair enough. I felt that the grinding was pretty reasonable, but than again what one would consider "reasonable" can vary wildly from person to person.
@thevashfan123923 жыл бұрын
@@agrippa2012 well, the only other thing is I was doing the grinding from like reputation 4~5 (whichever one that only nets you approx. 2 mil per full distribution) back then I think I only unlocked south beach and I was grinding for maddening hours but once you beat the game it's like 20~40 mil per full distribution which is a hell of a lot less hassle (IIRC the most expensive asset is like 300 mil?)

Good review. The game succeeds at what it tries to do, its biggest downfalls being the ultimately repetitive gameplay loop, and the fact that when you gain rep and become a real kingpin with an empire of sorts, you still have to micromanage everything when they should've leaned more into the "empire" part and let you hire people to do everything while you do bigger things and manage the empire from the top. Basically a Part 2 after the grind. But that would've required a bigger vision and budget.

The thing about the music being so hiphop-oriented is because scarface (the movie) has become hugely popular amongst a lot of rappers who saw tony montana's rise and fall and thought "this guy's a role model", and around the time the game came out there was even a remastered version of the film that came out, but which replaced all of the original soundtrack with hip hop music. People didn't like that very much so the next re-release came with the original soundtrack as it should be.
