What they should have done if it was in that direction was set the game from 1967 to 1969, have it star a young Mike Toreno working for the government, and set up distant plot points for Vice City Stories, Vice City, and San Andreas (for instance, revealing that the Mendez Brothers are cousins with T-Bone Mendez, who would have a much larger role). But Rockstar not only would have never done that, but they also refused to port this game and Liberty City Stories to PC, even though these are still mainline games.

@Everyonesbuddy829 Жыл бұрын
I remember that game. I remember every bit of it because that game is so unique. 1) You start as a corporal in the army. 2) You learned that your protagonist has a brother with asthma & a broken mother. 3) He will be forced to enter illegal work ordered by SGT Jerry Martinez which include bringing a girl on a military base he didn't even back you up & you ended up being removed from the army. My most hated mission as a child was Boomshine Blow out you know the one where you need to save the boomshine from the fire using a forklift truck. Back when me & my cousins where kids we called this game GTA Nigro. Drive By "Brace yourself fool" "Killed in seconds before you can even react!.....Wasted!" Seriously enjoy GMan's Comedic Timing and Yeah I played this back on the PSP and I agree when "THAT" happens. It's fucking unfair and I imagine I wasn't the only one looking at my gun downed character still wondering like the Krusty the Clown meme "What the hell was that" once my mind reboots from freezing in shock and horror that I got a game over/wasted out of the blue so easily with no chance to save myself!

I absolutely loved this game. Side note. Actually insane to think the PS2 was still pumping out games when Elder Scrolls Oblivion came out a year prior and Fallout 3 a year later. While PS2 keep producing consistency until 09 and didn't stop completely until 2013

shwoo couldnt be a worse time for retro collecting with the way prices leaped up in 2020. I havent checked PS2 priced, though, they weren't super high to begin with so maybe they weren't affected as much.

@ataridc Since games are ridiculous so I haven't gone after those. I needed to trade in games when I was younger to manage cost but I really wish now that I didn't need to do that. Either way, I'm enjoying slowly building my small collection again.

The second PS2 game I ever owned. This game was a real fun experience from start to finish. The only mission that was painful was High wire and the only annoyance I faced when playing is the random tire popping. I believe both the PSP and PS2 version has a manual aim with all weapons, you just can't move around when you use it.
@Zmeeed01 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, they do. It's just the key input for free aiming mode is kinda weird (IIRC you need to hold two buttons at once) and the camera movement is too stiff and mechanical which makes precise aiming difficult unless you're trying to blow up a car right in front of you

This was my childhood GTA. Not being able to own consoles or PC the only choice I had was to emulate this on my phone using emulator and not gonna lie being able to make your own checkpoints for missions is really amazing. Thanks you for the nostalgia and a really nice video covering my childhood GTA ❤.

I had VC, 3 and VCS when i was a kid, definitely played VCS the most out of what selection i had, it feels and behaves like a mix between the original Vice City and San Andreas and i just never got bored with it not that the other games don't have the same appeal especially with friends taking turns with the controller pretty much played it till GTA 4 came out coming into the early 2010s and still do today whenever i feel in the mood, gotta love the classics

It’s great to see some attention for this game. Oh and cool part is that if you get wasted or get arrested during a mission, there will be a cab waiting for you outside the hospital/police station and you can proceed with that mission

I used to play this on the PSP back when it came out, I never even finished the game just screwed around for years driving cars and rampaging. Recently I bought a switch and got vice city to relive the hours on hours of fun I had as a kid and was so confused when it didn’t start at the army base. I’m progressing very quickly through the map and the game looks just as good as it ever was. I live in a different continent now and am turning 20 soon, but this game is a portal back into my childhood, a throwback to simpler times.

Once again Mr. Gman, you pull through whenever I'm having a horrible day, it's like you "know". I'm wistful for the PSP, I had Custom Firmware on mine that would only run backups if you had a UMD in the disctray. I chose Vice City Stories as that UMD, and I loved it. Good times, that PSP was my buddy.

When I did my chronological playthrough if the PS2 GTA games, returning to Vice City from VCS and seeing the changes to the map really stood out. Seeing the places that played such a big significance now removed, run down or renovated actually had a bit of an impact.

Remember getting my hands on this in 2007 when it was ported across to the ps2, and remember enjoying it for the most part. Always remember that mission with the helicopter with the big industrial magnate attached and the car you had to airlift at the end. It’s been years since I last played the game, but that mission always sticks in my head as being extremely frustrating to the point of total rage quit 😡 😤

Great games, great soundtracks, but come on, GTAV + GTAO is miles better. The driving and gunplay was very basic till IV. No story DLC is the only disgrace, but only IV had that, and it needed it, because story missions was all it had, apart from bowling, obvs LOL - no planes even.

The main problem I always had with this game is that when you start a mission, the game despawns any vehicle not in your garage, making some missions unplayable.

I love this game so much, it was the first game I got when I got a PSP for Christmas as a kid. The Stories games are both highly underrated, they need to port them to PS4 & 5. I can't wait until I can afford the PS2 version, it's just so rare that it's insanely expensive.
@stevenmorrison46929 ай бұрын
I didn't know it was so expensive until I looked it up. Some are going for $80 or more. I saw one on Amazon for $59. I have the game. Only played it a few times. Didn't really care for it that much. I bought it when it was released. Don't think it's originally cost a lot.

I thought Trevor was the best protagonist because he’s the only guy that doesn’t suddenly feel like he becomes someone else the second the mission is over. Niko feels guilty about killing someone, meanwhile he ran over 3 people on the drive down.
@BlossomField91Ай бұрын
The only guy? Tommy Vercetti didn't either. He was straight to the point, ruthless, guiltless, and pragmatic. I would like GTA to have a protagonist who is villainous but has a lot more depth and subtly than Trevor or Tommy though. It becomes more obvious you're playing the real and biggest piece of shit all along than a sympathetic "good guy doing bad things". Some films and TV series have done an excellent job with creating protagonists who are deceptively sympathetic but as the layers are unwrapped, you actively loathe every bone in their body. The Sopranos and Breaking Bad come to mind.

This game just so happens to have two distinct music tracks both involving song writer and 80s rock star Phil Collins. The first being Genesis’s “Turn it On Again” from their 1980 seminal album Duke. Which happens to be Phil Collin’s final album with Genesis before leaving them to start his solo career. Which happens to be the next song by him from his 1981 debut album Face Value: “In The Air Tonight”. Shame another hit song from Phil Collins isn’t in Vice City Stories; that being the Billboard chart topper “Sussudio”. Also from Face Value. As consolation there’s his duet with Philip Bailey “Easy Lover” from his 1985 album Chinese Wall.

Tip for when enemy cars are smashing into you: slow down. Believe it or not, this helps. They lose their momentum having to try to slow down with you, and might even get out.

I’m glad people still remember this GTA. I also liked that Victor didn’t start out as criminal like the previous protagonists and was just some guy getting by in the beginning, this game also introduced me to a lot of great music by artists and bands like Phil Collins, Rick Springfield, Berlin, Pat Benatar and New Order.

Vice City Stories is up there with San Andreas and Gay Tony as the best GTA entries. I own the PS2 and PSP ports of both.

Trevor is one of the best, all because of the fact that his "vulnerable moments" are even more rare and far and few in between. It's like there's something there, but you can't tell 99.9% of the time.
