I thought you were going to talk about converting your Forester to the 111mm version of the Camper. You can do this easily by replacing the scale with the slide lock with one from a 111mm liner lock model. They are reasonably priced on Ebay. This makes the knife into a slip joint model. I'm not sure about blade length under UK law though.

Only UK law makers can think that the blade snapping off your fingers is a good idea and any safety mechanism against such snapping is "illegal" or dangerous. Good video, given your constraints. I personally carried a pioneer for urban EDC when I was in Europe and a Huntsman when I was in the outdoors. Norway is quite more lenient than Britain though. Big fixed blades for outdoors are a norm. I should recommend the Huntsman which also has scissors on top of your Camper.

The Lawmakers here are so Ultra-Woke about anything that MIGHT just be used as a weapon! We're expecting a ban on hammers any day now! 😉😉 Why anyone with even just 2 brain cells would think of using a SAK to do grievous bodily harm is beyond rational thinking. If one wanted to do this the average kitchen drawer would have a dozen better weapons, and with their intention in mind, they would not worry about legality anyway! It's absurd!

If you use a slip-joint model knife properly, it will not snap off in your fingers. I agree with what you are saying, the knife laws in the UK are bloody stupid.

Happy Thursday GGO, sorry for the late comment . I have Liked your video & subscribed to your channel, I am Subscriber #32, wishing you good luck in growing your channel. I understand the inequities of UK knife laws & their detrimental effect on law abiding UK tax payers whilst having no effect on criminals & Jihadists. I am a native Londoner who left the UK many decades ago & immigrated to Israel & reside in Tel Aviv. We have no such restrictions on knife carry here in Israel & as such I have a number of knives that you cannot own & certainly not carry in the UK. I am myself a lifelong SAK user & collector ever since I was a schoolboy in London back when knife crime & gun crime was negligible & every schoolboy had a pocket knife to sharpen his pencils, dig holes in conkers & carve a heart with his & his girlfriends initials on a tree in the park. I don't own a Forester but I do own & carry a 111mm Garant as part of my Gentleman's knife EDC ( consisting of 93mm Pioneers, X's & 84mm Cadets ) and the only Camper that I own is a collectable NutSAK version bought from Tortoise Gear the maker of the Firefly ferro rods, Fire Ant rods & tinder spirals . My choice for PTK ( Pocket Tool Kit ) in place of a Gentleman's knife is a modified Huntsman with black Plus scales, Firefly rod in place of the toothpick , tinder coil & mini-screwdriver on the corkscrew & fitted with a SwissQlip for convenient pocket carry, my alternate PTK is the 85mm Evolution EvoGrip S17 ( also with Firefly rod, tinder coil & mini-screwdriver ) which fits into the ticket pocket of my jeans. The S17 & S18 which I also own are of course illegal in the UK due to their blade lock . I own a lot of other SAK's including similarly decked out Huntsmen & Climbers with different colour plus scales, my home tool kit is a Deluxe Tinker with plus scales & I have a large number of other, 58mm, 84mm, 85mm, 91mm & 93mm's both collectables & those that I occasionally use ( such as the Explorer, Compact, Bantam, Mountaineer, Midnite Mini-Champ, & the rare discontinued Motorist). In addition I carry on my key chain the 58mm Midnight Manager & I have on order the 111mm Outrider in black with the pre-2017 side slide lock, which is IMO the 111mm equivalent of the Huntsman

@@geeksgooutdoors Happy Saturday. SAK's are built to last but since they are relatively affordable its easy to have a small collection of different types for different uses & other than the 58mm Midnite Manager on my keyring and the 91mm Deluxe Tinker on my computer desk at home, I rotate my Gentleman's knives & my PTK's ( Pocket Tool Kits ) SAK's daily, as they say variety is the spice of life.

@@geeksgooutdoors The best value for money SAK IMO is the 4 layer Huntsman as it covers both urban & outdoors tool needs ( I have 5 in different colours including a collectable ) and it comes in a variety of scales( 7 or 8 ) & the least value for money SAK IMO is the 2 layer Compact which comes in boring red scales ( its impossible to find the black scales model ) . I've done the math's and if you only need an urban EDC don't buy the Compact as its cheaper to buy a 3 layer Climber ( I have 2 ) & fit it with Plus scales of any of the 6 Plus scale colours available on Ebay and the additional layer is barely noticeable in your pocket . I have in addition to upgrading my Huntsman & Climbers with Plus scales, ferro rod, tinder spirals & mini-screwdrivers begun adding the SwissQlip to them ( 4 fitted so far )

Victorinox Swiss Army, does not make a Wood Carving knife that has two carving blades, a saw, and a large roughing blade. Blades that have 58 or better Rockwell hardness or 440 or better stainless steel. Just three slots (not sure what they are called) handles. that are rounded for comfort, with locking blades. Folded no more than 3 1/2 inches long. If all the carvers out there will unite and keep bugging Vicky about it, I am sure they will listen.

My Huntsman has a tiny hold in the scale, accessed after opening the corkscrew. It's to store a straight pin. Pretty handy to use with the tweezers removing a splinter. Yeah them UK knife laws are odd. If worried about cutting yourself while having to pierce/cut tough rubber hose, etc... .. there are cheap woven Kevlar gloves on the market. They are great for cuts but not a puncture..so there's that. Some of them gloves even come rubber coated for more grip. ie; of the simple Kevlar glove material we had at work.. I needed a small piece of cloth to replace a clogged air filter on an air operated agitator. Too loud without a filter. ~ Using a fresh razor blade out of the cardboard...I pulled the glove tight to cut off the thumb of the glove. I'll be damned if I didn't have to saw the razor blade a bunch to cut through. twas kinda cool. heck, if someone pulled a knife on me I'd be able to grab the blade and pull it from their hand. tips me hat ~ I peeked at amazon uk and there's a slough of cut resistant gloves of all sorts. I searched knit Kevlar gloves. Dupont are the ones than created Kevlar methinks. So perhaps tougher? I've used the ones/still do...with the rubber poka dots.

I like the SAK Pioneer Alox personally, you might enjoy the Farmer X Alox. I coupled it with a Leatherman PS2, especially in England. I think simplicity is key for multitools, too many functions and you have something which doesn't do any of them well. I live in the US now, so anything goes regarding blades. It's actually quite nice assuming you can avoid the incessant hail of gunfire.
@geeksgooutdoors3 жыл бұрын
I've handled the PS2 and thought it was too heavy for day-to-day carry, but for working likely a great tool. SAK Pioneer looks good, the Farmer looks just slightly too wide? Never held one though. Thanks for the comments.
@simonh63713 жыл бұрын
@@geeksgooutdoors The Farmer is actually 0.5mm thinner at 17mm thick, than the Camper at 17.5mm thick, despite having an extra layer (scissors). This is because the Alox scales are thinner than the celidor/plastic scales. I would like one but I am waiting for the price to drop, at the moment you won't get one for under 50 quid. I got the Farmer last year for just £23, they've now increased to minimum £35. If I carry that with a Leatherman Squirt PS4 I have a full toolset albeit in smaller form. Or I carry the Squirt with a Hiker (Camper with Phillips in place of corkscrew). The only slight compromise is that Victorinox scissors are just a bit better than Leatherman scissors. If I go camping I put a Soldier (with a longer locking blade) in my rucksack with all my other gear, it's similar to the Forester. The saw on those larger SAKs is longer and better than on any Leatherman.

@@simonh6371 Thanks for the info. I@ve never had an Alox handled SAK. I guess I like the calssic look better? Does a Alox SAK feel cold when the temperature drops?
@simonh63713 жыл бұрын
@@geeksgooutdoors I never really thought about the alox handles being colder but yes for a second or two it's colder to touch, but the heat of your hand warms it rapidly. I like SAKs in general and also like the Classic looks, I like black scales the most. A lot of people pair up an alox like Famer/Pioneer with a small SAK like the Classic to have scissors which are very capable for their size, and the tweezers and toothpick. The Classic is so tiny you hardly notice it until you need it.
@FreedomFox13 жыл бұрын
The Pioneer X is a very popular edc in the US. Alox is rugged, classy, easy to clean and excellent scissors. The alox is heavier but thinner than standard SAK’s, so there is that trade off. Go with the farmer or farmer x, if you want the saw.
