Laura didn't have to protect and continue working for Luke. However, she did. I believe that she got married because she wanted to establish her independence but wasn't truly in love with Scotty. She's not even afraid or nervous being around Luke!

Wow that part with the little kid was so sweet on Luke’s part. I think that what Laura saw between Luke and the little kid. Touch Laura in a way it kind of took her breath away. It did a lot of deep thought on Laura’s peacefully life with Scotty. It really turned the tides on her out look on Luke. That I think IMHO she saw him as a tender and loving man that she wanted toget closer to him in a very different way. And not good for Scotty or herself. Thank you sooo very much Rosie

I can’t express the pure beauty and pure magic that they themselves brought to day time TV. There acting was music, Magic in boundless purification. What a brilliant actor,this scene with Jackie Zeman ,a fair actress,were good ,and although Genie Francis is a very good,talented actress,even her jaw had to drop when this guy was performing,that's how good he was. It's like having James Dean on the set ,or better,cause he didnt have Anthony Gearys passion. Remember all ,it's acting and the controversial subject and dialogue,unreal, but these great actors made it seem real. His love scenes (even the Disco one ) were beautiful in its artistry

Actually, your clips have proved invaluable for me!! Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Luke and Laura are extremely emotional for me. I was 19? When the "rape" occurred and it inspired me to become a rape counselor. We even spoke of it in my women's studies class in college. There is a book called No End For Her which (read like a masters dissertation by Martha Nochimson) that uses psychology and myth and classics to say that it didn't really happen. Well for me it did in a profound way.

This whole conversation between L&L is bonkers!!!! That she would confide in him...I do understand that they had chemistry BUT the twisted relationship dymanics are insane. I think, among other things, is that Luke projects so much onto her...goodness, wholesomeness, "respectability"(she did kill a man...) that she seems almost comfortable talking with him. It makes for good TV, but it's a lot to unpack.

I think human relationships and their dynamics are far more complicated than people want to admit to themselves. Being able to love and care for someone who hurt you in a profound way is a real experience. I think that is one of the reasons that LnL are so appealing because the writers are able to represent this aspect of humanity through their writing and TG and GF give it life through their brilliant acting and it's rare for it to be explored in depth on the stage/screen then and especially now.

I've always felt that Laura had PTSD regarding the rape. Many people use suppression as a technique to cope, and then later on have flashbacks that throw them for a loop. Luke and Laura's Day of Reckoning is on YT. It was done in 1999, and the discussion between Laura and Luke is fantastic. It explains quite a bit about Luke's thought process, his continued detachment on some level, and her realization of how brutal it was and how she got through it.

I have watched the scene where Luke visits Laura in the hospital after the rape. GF and TG have said in interviews that they told Gloria Monty Laura knew she loved Luke. The scene was painful to watch for me. It seemed as though L aura was in denial about the incident. I didn't feel the love part.

Well, it was rape. She said no. And she was under the age of consent. At least statutory. Don't get me wrong-I was swept up in the whole L & L phenomenon, too. But, just watching these clips reminds me that Luke was pretty heartless at the beginning. I was GF age, and he seemed too old for her. She was 17 and he was 32. Tony' s a great actor, and I always loved watching him. But I think if a 32 yr. old guy with a seedy pata started pestering me, knowing I was married, and just 17, I don't think i'd like it. But I think I'm the only one here that thinks that😱😨😉

Why did they have laura at 17 marry scotty who was also kinda young to get married as he was in law school. Did scotty want laura to be a stay at home wife ? Were scotty & laura popular? L&l have so much chemistry. I wonder what gh writers were thinking taking that gamble with the rape. I mean it obviously payed off big time but they could have been together anyway. Yes. TG was apparently only supposed to be on for 3 months. Goes after Williams, gets shot, dies in Laura’s arms (!!!). But the actor playing Roy got a prime-time role, so they killed him off instead, and the rest is history. What I don’t quite understand is, like you, why did they plot Luke assaulting Laura? The producers had to have seen the mad chemistry between Genie and Tony, and more importantly, knew the viewers noticed it too and yearned for them to be together!!! ( Especially given what a patronizing twit Scotty was being. Also Luke is WAY cuter). So they didn’t need to do that to them. It’s frustrating and a little heartbreaking. If anyone knows the timeline of this decision, I’d love to hear it!

THIS is an IMPORTANT scene. Luke and Laura DID address the rape BUT the GH writer kept playing word games was it rape or making love. So lucky and LuLu helped the GH writers clear up the confusion but Luke and Laura DID address the subject in 1979 not in the 1990’s.

I think you're right. She fell in love with Luke much earlier and she treated him like a best friend. That hospital scene from her accident is very intimate and sweet. After the rape she is in shock and is in huge denial. There is no "love" shown there.

I believe he was speaking in a general context about having to work for ppl like Smith (however reluctantly) in order to secure a measure of prosperity for himself, his younger sister Bobbie (who feels he owes for Roy’s death) and any future child. That’s what he meant by an act of love.

...not liking Luke and Laura as a couple comes from a truly emotional place in my youth. BUT, I loved Laura! She was near my age and I very much related to her story. I learned to love Bobbie and Luke (who had such rough passage). Your clips are actually helping me greatly to fill in the gaps of the Alan Monica story which I am researching.
